I agree on Jane Austen January! I feel more in the mood to read classics in the winter than in the summer.

Mood reading is so much more enjoyable than a required syllabus ! Congratulations on your success and have fun with the books you choose for July. BTW, thanks again for tagging me to do the April Showers Tag! I actually planned out all of my answers but got busy and by the time I was able to film it, it was already the end of May. But I am hanging on to my notes and will definitely do it at some point. It’s a fun tag! Have a great weekend! 😊

Librarian Nancy Pearl has a theory she calls the Four Doorways, which states that, for readers, there are 4 main doorways into fiction. These doorways are STORY, CHARACTER, SETTING, and LANGUAGE, and which one you enjoy the most often determines the type of books you’ll love to read. A book with STORY as its biggest doorway is one that readers describe as a page-turner, a book they can’t put down because they desperately want to discover what happens next. A book with CHARACTER as its biggest doorway is a book in which readers feel so connected with the characters that when the book is over, they feel they’ve lost someone dear to them. Readers of novels in which SETTING is most prominent say things like “I felt like I was there,” or, “When I finished Willa Cather’s Death Comes for the Archbishop, I immediately made plans to go to New Mexico-I had to see for myself where it took place.” A book in which LANGUAGE is the major doorway leads readers to utter sentences like “I read more slowly because I wanted to savor the language” or “I’m not even sure what the book is about, but I loved the way the author wrote.” Jen, which of those four doorways is most appealing to you? Which doorway do you enjoy the most?

Who do you attribute your love for reading the book genres that you currently read today? For me, it was my sixth grade teacher who was frustrated that my only interests was reading about dinosaurs. She tried to get me to like Miss Read, which was okay, but then I drifted to mysteries and have not stopped loving them to this day. I would prefer that they were just mysteries and did not involve murder but they are what they are today. I don't remember which ones I ended up drifting to in sixth grade except for Nancy Drew. But there were others. I was really in a rut as a young reader.

Waiting for my friend to bring it in. A few stories left in The Blue Bedroom. Was disappointed in that title's actual story. What did you think of the story (bluebdrm?) Love the others. Also reading: The Second Mrs. Astor by Shane Abe. Bought it maybe 3 yrs. ago. Sounded super good, by now, I'm struggling through. Only up to about pg. 50. That is a very good reason to NOT buy SOOO many bks. ahead, OR read them when you buy them! Tastes change...🤔. When I saw you posted I said to myself " WOO-HOO"! Thanks!

Hi Jen! Love your channel! My questions: Who is your current favorite author? What authors have been most meaningful to you in different phases of your life (childhood, high school, early adulthood, or other)? Thank you for your always interesting videos. Jill

I’ve never been good at TBRs. I’m just too much of a mood reader. I don’t recall you ever mentioning Ebooks so my question is, do you have a Kindle and if so do you read much on it?

Congrats on 2K subscribers! My question is: how do you organize your shelves? Alphabetical by author, or perhaps clumped together by genre? As I don't live in the USA, my other question was whether I am eligible for this giveaway. (perhaps it is in the fine print for show notes, I will take a look). If not, that's a-okay. Your channel is fun, and you've inspired me in my reading life. That's definitely a win! Looking forward to what's ahead.

Hi Jen -- you'll get to 4K before 2025! Yours is one of my top 5 book-tuber channels to catch up on... thank you for being here! I'm sooooo with you for 'Janeuary' ( Jane Austen January ). I do love to watch the Jane Austen July videos though - as I am intrigued with what people find for a contemporary read. I too struggle with July reads, typically I'd have to say my 1st choice genre is Historical Fiction with classics being 2nd probably..🥴 but I don't tend to go for either of these in July or August. I want something with a summer vibe - or a light read. I just started 'People You Meet on Vacation', my first Emily Henry read. Question for your 2KQ&A = what 5 books would you wish you had with you if you were stranded somewhere and 2nd - have you met any authors? I hate to be without at least one book and my kindle when I'm away from home ~ AT ALL TIMES 😌

Thank you so much for your sweet words! It sounds like there is lots of interest in "Jane-uary" so I think I will be putting that together! And thank you for your great questions!

As I watch various book videos, I see people say they read 200 + books a year ( one person even said she read 600). Do you think they are doing it just for the numbers? A "normal" book to me is between 300 to 450 pages long and a big book is over 500 pages. Just found you. Good luck with your you tube channel.
@jensreadinglife
@jensreadinglife 9 часов назад
Maybe they read full-time? Or read very short books? I could see reading 200 books in a year but 600 seems a bit much to me! I would also consider the type of books they are reading. Is it 200 fairly quick to read romance or thriller or mystery? Or are we talking dense classics which require more time and concentration? I would hope they are being honest. There’s no need to inflate your reading numbers. Whether you read 1 book or 100 books in a year, it’s all good and it’s all reading! 😊
