on day 8 the reason it was christmas related was because the name of the bridge was engeløybrau witch means angel island bridge. (im danish btw)

12:33 as a Norwegian, let me clarify. “Engeløybrua” means “The Angel Bridge” which is why it’s concluded in the map, since angels are well… christmassy

Saint Lucia is named after a saint from the Nordic countries and it also refers to a holiday about it that takes place during Christmas time in the Nordic countries

In the first round, Finland was actually a very reasonable guess, since 'järvi' (in Jukkasjärvi) is the Finnish word for 'lake'. Northeastern Sweden has a lot of Finnish place names. 'Jukka' is a Finnish man's name, but in Finnish "Jukka's lake" is 'Jukanjärvi'. So 'Jukkasjärvi' is just the same, but in Swedish orthography (ie. Jukkasjärvi = Jukka's järvi). I wonder why it wasn't called Jukkassjö in Swedish. 'Sjö' is Swedish for lake.

The name Jukkasjärvi is of Sami origin. Coming from the Northern Sami name Čohkkirasjávri meaning lake of assembly. Then Finnish speaking settlers moved to the area and changed the name to the Finnish Jukkasjärvi

To be fair, it's one of those English place names you wouldn't know now to pronounce unless you heard it before. I mean, is Slough pronounced Sluff? No, no it's not.

Engeløybrua on day 8 is angel island bridge in English. The 13th of december is Saint Lucia day. That is the reason why day 9 was the island of St. Lucia.

I would assume that Engeløybrua is chistmassy because the first part of it, «engel», means angel in Norwegian, so I think that that may be the reason?
