Thank you for sharing your perspective. It comes at a perfect time for me, as my husband and I just got through the initial paperwork to get certified as foster parents. My past is messy, as in my family could have been on Jerry Springer. Because of it, I have issues and I've been through counseling. People keep telling me that there is a huge need for foster parents and they probably won't turn down our application, but it is nice to hear that from someone who's been there. It helps.
Same! Family and pasts can be so messy but we have been licensed a few times and so far haven't been turned down by an agency. I have felt like it's been more helpful, once again, to be able to empathize with some of my kids. I think it can even take the stigma away for some of them.
If you were in a state where that's legal I would just call around and ask agencies. I'm really not sure. If you do find out definitely post here and let us know.
