I am facing a knee replacement . Fortunately/unfortunately I came across your videos . What an eye opener . Please note that when a doctor uses the word discomfort , to me it sounds like “ it’s gonna hurt like heck ! “

I was 57 and had both knees done at the same time I couldn't lower myself backwards to sit on the toilet with out help.i was a karate instructor for years before that opp .And after the opp the pain at night was so bad that I was unable to sleep for days and lead to man tears so burned out but in time it past. Donot let this story stop you my knees are 95% great and life is good again 10 years on.

Thànks for this channel @TalkingWithDocs . I'm a former carpenter and a patient of Dr Zalzal's. In the construction trades there is debate about whether people should kneel, squat use a kneeling cart, knees pads or no kneepads etc. I don't kneel anymore but I'd be interested to know. Maybe a video idea.

I'm late to the party but happy to have found you. I've had tkr on the right 3 years ago and tkr on the left 2 years ago and find it painful to kneel when I try certain yoga stances. Never asked the surgeon, just thought it was me but I see that I'm not unique with this complaint. I've subscribed and am working my way through your videos. Great information! Thank you.

As a photographer, some of the best images are when you are kneeling or sitting down looking up or across from your model (be it your pet or human)! I'm hoping I can resume these positions after my TKR! The main thing is to be able to get back up again!!

These knee videos have helped immensely to be able to make a knowledgeable decision of when to have my TKR. If I had scheduled the sgy earlier, I doubt that I would have been happy with the outcome. Waiting will allow me to see a measurable improvement from 'before' to 'after'.

I had my right knee replaced about 18 months ago. Today it is pain free and I am able to bend it at a normal level. But, my leg swells above and below my knee - especially as the day wears on. I do not have to stand on my legs for my work and can sit on a stool as often as needed. I have nerve damage in my thigh where the docs used a tourniquet during the surgery. In the evenings I elevate and use ice packs to try to reduce the swelling. Is this swelling situation normal? What else can I do? Thanks for all you do to educate us. I have learned a lot from you two during the last couple of years.
@TalkingWithDocs
@TalkingWithDocs 4 года назад
Hi Larry. So for the swelling the best thing to do is ice like you are already doing. Avoid aggravating activities. But persistent swelling is not uncommon. As long as it isn't getting worse it typically is not something to worry about. If it is associated with severe pain, probably best to get assessed. Thanks for the kind words and glad we could help Larry. Thanks for watching.

Thèse videos are so helpful to someone like me who is waiting to have both knees done (hopefully not at the same time)…. Have you thought about doing a video to address the pros and cons of TKR day surgery - that scares a lot of people and sounds like it’s much more for the benefit of hospitals ( fewer occupied beds and less strain on nurses) vs patients . Can you pls explain why this is a good choice and when it should be avoided? Thanks
@TalkingWithDocs

I had a right total knee replacement in 2020 and the left replacement at the end of May this year. I have to kneel because I teach yoga. I followed a desensitization protocol and I can kneel on both. Agree though: use padding under the knees and use common sense!

Thanks for your videos! I'm 8 weeks out and so discouraged. Maybe my expectations were too high. I'm working so hard in PT and am going an extra 4 weeks, but the knee is still so sore. Pains are even going down to my ankle, which I thought would be gone. Anyway, love watching! I subscribed and shared with friends! I knew about the kneeling going in!

Fonda, I had a TKR 18 months ago. It seemed it would never get better. But it takes a long time, much longer than I expected. I just have to be careful and do some things differently. For one, I cannot bend on my knee to the floor. It really hurts. But sometimes I have to get in that position to garden or clean the bathroom, etc. so what I have done is to have a chair near by to lower me to the floor and to pull myself up. Anything to keep the knee off the floor. I will grab one to the chair and keep my leg straight and pull up. That might not be the best description but I can get done what I need to. Maybe some of it is in my head I don’t know. But it is a real fear! Keep an ice bag nearby for after that activity! It does get somewhat easier but you have to be patient. You will get through it!!!

Thank you so much for all of your tutorials regarding TKR. I had this done almost 6 weeks ago. I doubt I will be kneeling anytime soon, maybe never! But, it's good information to know. I have a question.....my lower leg bone (fibula?) has been hurting A LOT the past week or so, so much I can hardly put weight on it. Is that normal, being 6 weeks out? Thank you! 🙂

Cheryl Ann, I had my both my knees replaced in 2009.I could never kneel on my knee’s ever. I hope I can get my revisions to both knees this summer. They loose inside. Plus I just found out there is a recall by the. Manufacture. Maybe they will give me 2 new knees for my surgery. I wish for a speedy recovery. It should take a year when it is all healed it. Everyone is different when it comes to the healing process.

I had an (ACL) Anterior Cruciate Ligament surgery around 79 that left a 13 inch scar on the outside of the leg. It took at least ten years before I was willing to kneel on it as long as there were no pebbles under it and only in the past five years have I been willing to kneel on it for a length of time (five minutes give or take). That scar was on the side and it was hyper sensation that stopped me. I just had a total knee replacement on the left knee with the scar over the top so I think I will be able to kneel on it when I will be 90 plus. I'll still try it because why not, It isn't going to break my knee.
@TalkingWithDocs
@TalkingWithDocs 2 года назад
Hi Kerry. Yes incisions can be sensitive and yes you will not break your knee by trying to kneel. We advise a pillow or knee pads for comfort. Good luck. Thanks for watching and subscribing if you did

I had a TKR almost 2 years ago. I have had good healing and good range of motion and I don't have any pain. I have seriously been trying to get back to doing exercises like yoga and pilates, but it's difficult to do many of the postures with no kneeling whatsoever. Some exercises are done on all fours so the weight is evenly distributed. Is there any level of kneeling that is ok? What about doing a modified push up on hands and knees (on a soft pad)?
@TalkingWithDocs
@TalkingWithDocs 4 года назад
Hi Margo. We tell our patients that they are allowed to kneel within the limits of their pain and common sense. Yes pillow or towel will often help. If you are unsure, you can always ask your surgeon their philosophy. Hope that helps. Good luck and thanks for watching.

@TalkingWithDocs
@TalkingWithDocs 4 года назад
Hi Jim. There is a possibility to get greater range of motion but the longer it stays stiff the higher the chance is that 100 is what you are going to get. The best advice we can give is more physio and possibly a dynamic splint. Talk to your surgeon to also make sure nothing else is going on. Good luck to you.
