My experience as INFP after being married to my INFP wife for 13 years, is that it works perfectly fine. Nobody understands me better than my wife. She is my best friend, partner, and lover in one person. We tell each other everything and when we get something we need to talk about, we ask each other for advice. We also have a 13-year-old daughter who also tested herself as INFP recently. Me and my wife run a video production business together where we film concerts and weddings. We both always find new innovative ideas (Ne) for how we can do things in a better and more interesting way so it's never a boring day in our work because not one job will be the same. So, we often play creative ping-pong with each other leting our creativity and the production value grow for every year. So, saying two INFP can't grow together, I think is not entirely correct because I feel I could never have grown so much without her. Our daughter is also highly creative, and she helps us from time to time.

Based on my experience it DOES work! My fiancé and I are both INFPs. When we overthink we call it INFPing. I do feel that it really takes two people who are very willing to be open and unquestionably honest with each other but also with ourselves. We are never afraid to be wrong and work toward our continued individual growth as well as growing as a couple. We strive to keep our individuality within our relationship because that was a big part of why our old relationships failed. I feel so lucky to have found this cheeky devil. I know we are heading into the adventure of our lifetimes! --- edit 2023.03.17 I tested as an INFJ the other day… but it was very close. I’ve never gotten anything but INFP up until then. I’ve been overcoming some deep rooted issues over the last 3 years and have changed.. so it fits. But I found that fascinating. Felt the comment needed an edit

I can only talk about INFP-INFP friendship. In my opinion it's like a mix of a therapy, talking about secrets which almost nobody can understand besides you and brainstorming about different ideas. It's like looking in the mirror and realizing your own mistakes, but I've also experienced how careful I should be to don't hurt her feelings - probably others feel this too with me. If I guess it well she is a 4w3, I'm a 4w5 and I'm not as brave and self-confident as she is. We sometimes have arguments, because we try to help others like we help ourselves and it's not always a good way. I have an other INFP friend, who is probably a 9w1. She is more chill and childish, and I don't feel the pressure with her to be really careful with my words. With her our friendship is funny, we really can laugh about everything. These friendship are really great, but I think there would be more developmental opportunity with other types (at least in a relationship). Sorry for my mistakes, English is not my native language.

As an intj, I can say the same about other intjs that I've met somewhere on the internet. A 'mirror' that allows us to exchange experiences, but with time conversations become boring. I also saw my infp bf's friendship with another much younger infp whom he supported in goals. Their conversations looked like they just sat down in space somewhere on some other planet under a magic tree and started talking about dragons (;

There is always a lot of creativity in these conversations! Glad to hear you like intjs (: Yeah, it's true. But he was the person who taught me to communicate my emotions. At first it was very hard for me (his digging in my past, asking lots of questions), but it really heals. Heard it's too tiring for some intjs. I respected and admired his Fi and the way he behaves to others and thinks about the emotions of others before he says anything as stupid or rude as I could say. And he often pulled me out of my 'paranoid' mode. He died, but I'm very grateful to him for his time and for all these lessons. Hope I don't forget about it and won't become a 'grumpy cat' again (:

See, the bad thing about typology is when you're in a stage where you still don't know each other very well, you can slip into using the idealized personality construct to fill in the blanks, and start assuming you know more than you really do about who the other person is. I think INFP-INFP can work great, as long as we're fully stocked on tissues. 😂 It comes with challenges of its own, but any relationship does. You are totally spot on about feeling that all of the people who have come close to us have contributed to who we are and how we've evolved, hopefully positively. I've been cut off, but I've never actually cut anyone off I've been with, and I definitely come with a couple of exes-turned-great-friends. I even helped one of my exes find her husband because she knows I'm good at detecting liars, and it's working out for them, which I feel great about, and she also helps me deal with the emotional drama of dating. We INFPs can be pretty awesome. 😁

An INFP 4w5 here: I've always found it works best with INFP 9w1 types, where I'm both more attracted, but also more calm, like we're able to fulfil different roles. But I'm sure relationships with enneagram 4 INFPs could work too, despite the risk of drama/exhaustion. Honestly, it's difficult to start relationships with INFPs (in my experience) and takes a lot of time for anything to actually happen (despite always having a fast natural attraction to them). This is an obstacle I don't have to face so much with other types. On the other hand, the love I've had for INFPs is nearly always very intense. I also think that INFP-INFP relationships are great for growth if one of them takes the role of a mentor. They can teach you about life in a way that can be easily understood. Anyway, those are some random thoughts from my experiences. Thanks so much for the video!
@GeekPsychology

Yes to both of these! "Honestly, it's difficult to start relationships with INFPs (in my experience) and takes a lot of time for anything to actually happen (despite always having a fast natural attraction to them)." -- "I also think that INFP-INFP relationships are great for growth if one of them takes the role of a mentor." It took a lot of time to progress in my IxFP relationships because we were both waiting for the other person to take the lead and to feel more comfortable. However, as we discuss our problems together, we have a great understanding for the other (procrastination, pressure, anxiety and other rough problems seem to be more relatable and we can feel supported in our process of become better people everyday)~ being the way we are, help us to be more empathetic. I found that communication is the hardest challenge we face long term. Because we can be so introverted and tightly wounded, conflict-aversive, sometimes we keep our thoughts and feelings to ourselves, especially if one of them is less emotional mature. In the long term it will build up as resentment and growing distance. And we become more closed of to each other because we are sensitive and dont want to Get more hurt.

Best relationship I’ve had was with an INFP. If life weren’t such a pain in the butt we would’ve definitely worked it out, no doubt in my mind but stuff happens haha, however, I would say our strong Fi can make things difficult with each-other but I think that that is normal considering it is something that makes us ‘in common’ , sometimes too much in common will make these conflicts. I can only speak in my own terms and opinions that for the most part, I’d want a partner that would help me push through things a bit more but not in a forceful way, I think both infps having Si patterns, yes, we would and do try to help each-other push-through but that comfort level can be so similar that we might go back to the ‘yeah, eventually’ answer to everything haha. But, in my own experience, my INFP partner was a gentle loving passionate soul. He was so caring, forgiving, understanding and generous. He was also very sacrificing if he felt there was a more demanded for us. He’d try to help and find ways to motivate me to figure things out. We’d enjoy our moments together, it came naturally. Being alone, together. I’m so grateful I got to even experience such love. INFPs are truly one of a kind (O ya and if this does help anyone, the most of our conflicts were about stuff we were passionate about, like, beliefs, standards, judgements, stuff like that, but we’d speak to each-other eventually and find compromise)

Thanks for sharing! I agree about the comfort zone and needing a push. That was my experience. Also, it can work in many great ways as well, but, like all relationships, it takes awareness and intention to make it really thrive. I am an infp it was pretty much done with being in my comfort zone. I very much like variety. I'm in the position of wanting to explore and experience more in my life. My life is pretty much been a consistent narrative. I'm working on being my authentic self. I do agree with you that you do need to be around different types of personalities to grow. This can be really hard for infps because they're not really good with conflict. I don't know what kind of personality my other relationships were because I'm new to this. I do know that two of them were narcissist. Of course I dropped them because I really don't care to be in a toxic situation anymore. I'm really not sure what type of personality would suit me best. I do know the type of things that I'm looking for but I'm also idealistic by nature. I really do want a relationship however I want it to be a healthy one. I found this video to be very interesting. I think that even though on paper and logically certain types work well with other types in the end what really works for a relationship is the choice to committ and work out any issues together and communicate together. I have an istp partner and by all accounts as an infp we shouldn't work. I admit we can have explosive arguments but i am learning to be less emotional and personal about things and he is showing his emotional side and even his creative side now. He has taught me to be brave and to stick up for my belief's and ive cooled him down when he gets too heated. So really i am learning to take this compatibility thing with a pinch of salt as in the end you got chemistry and laughter who really cares about the rest right ❤

This is something that bugs me. If INFPs are like the second rarest personality type then how do they keep finding each other??? Much less want to be in a relationship with each other because let's face facts here. If you're an INFP and you haven't taken the time to at least develop your shadow, there is going to be either a TON of conflict or the relationship will be very stagnant. Especially if neither of you have done any kind of work of Ne/Te and you both have your Fi/Si looping around. And what happens? Eventually someone is going to start saying "I don't think you're a good person, you're not putting in enough effort, you let this place become disgusting" and they'll use that Fi morality to pin up their partner as their own personal scapegoat into not needing to take personal responsibility. Why risk that when you could be going for an ENFJ who is going to push you out of your comfort zone and get you out of your fantasy realm and maybe even bring some aspects of that to life for you! Who wouldn't want that? Or are least an INFJ who can share in those same spaces and you get the bonus of feeling good about the experiences they give. You essentially help them just by existing. Why wouldn't that make you feel like a super hero? I mean, I'm just an ISFP so chances are you'd disagree with me. That's alright. I still can acknowledge you.
@aquaazania
@aquaazania 2 года назад
The answer: we're not 😅 we're actually smack bang in the middle at the 8th rarest (9th most common) personality type. We make up something like 4.4% of the population which doesn't seem like much, but 100% split 16 ways isn't much to begin with and then you have ISFJs taking up a whopping 13.8% of that and there are 8 other more common types so feeling like there's a shortage of INFPs around you totally makes sense, but we're still more common than the likes of INFJs and ENTJs and INTJs, etc, so yeah, we're a little easier to find. Also when we do find each other we tend to band together because it's difficult to find someone who really understands and can relate to us on the level that other INFPs can. Edit: In relation to the other stuff: I don't know if I've only encountered INFPs whose Ne and Te have been very well developed or if I myself have a fairly well developed Ne (I know my Te is horrible) but that hasn't been my experience with other INFPs at all. My sister is an INFP and while we do tend to disagree, we're mostly patient enough to let the other person say their piece and empathetic enough to understand even if we don't agree. Similar with 2 of my closest friends.
@GeekPsychology
@GeekPsychology 2 года назад
I guess they're hanging out where other INFPs are :) Or there's a natural _knowing_ that draws them together. Hopefully people are healthier than that when they get into a relationship and aren't just finding another person to "fix" them. No matter what their type is, self-work is really important. And yes, I feel that NFJs help stretch those comfort zone undies.

On thinking about dating another INFP, the thought occurred to me that we'd probably end up having to outsource some of the more practical things to keep the relationship a happy one. I mean, both of us will be messy and disorganised in our own unique ways, but we could decide to hire a cleaner to clean our home for us so it doesn't lead to arguments or feelings of resentment. Equally, we could set up a bunch of direct debits etc, to automate our finances, so money doesn't become a problem. And we could construct a list of things we want to do together then allocate responsibility to the person most interest in that thing to set it up. For example, if one of us wants to learn to dance, they'd take responsibility for booking the dance lessons and arranging transport. If the other person wanted to try something like a hot air balloon ride, then they'd look into it and arrange a suitable time to do it. I think the biggest problem with dating another INFP might be how we make time for each other to have alone time. We each need a lot of time to recharge after doing something outside our comfort zone so perhaps knowing when to give each other space would be the biggest problem. After all, we will have different comfort zones and probably different needs in how we recharge. That and the obvious issues around who's going to be making the first moves in the sex and romance side of things to keep the passion alive is likely to be the hardest circle to square.

Doesn’t have to! I guess it depends on your expectations and situations.

I can't say much from the INFP on INFP relationship but I can say from my own perspective, there tends to be a lot of conflict of interest. So ISFP on INFP not something I'd recommend. How we interact and how they interact are worlds apart quite literally. Doesn't mean it's impossible, just that communication is ALWAYS going to be an issue.
@GeekPsychology

I had my issues, but there were some good things about the relationship too. Communication for everyone is key.

@@GeekPsychology oh yeah! That's the first rule to relationships in general. At least in my book. I mean, if you can't communicate with one another then why even bother? Lacking that is asking for toxic manifestations.

Intps are like something looks very soft but unintentionally stings sometimes and hurt infps and sometimes their ego and Fe can make you feel like they are playing with your feelings and infps being too much sensitive and and weird FiNeTe nonsense makes them annoyed and, it stays very exciting and fun and ok if most of the time but if u are not lucky things get fighty fighty

A feeling type can clash with a thinking type..Remember that intps can be very logical.The extraverted thinking is the inferior function of an Infp.

@@GeekPsychology For context, It works well because I'm 51% introvert and 49% extrovert INFP while he is 70% introvert 30% extrovert INFP. Simply put, being with him is easy, we like the same things and our lifestyle is the same… our adventures are endless road trips, while I plan and he improvise. I can discuss with him easy, for instance if I tell him I don’t like driving, he’d drive for me. Our love language is the same as well, which is quality time. Practically enjoying things without having to talk, but is still with each other. And its like whenever I want to do things, he’ll join me & I take part in his interest. We cook, snuggle, gym and do everything together. He believes in my dreams and so do I with his. I’m a dreamer so it’s a big deal to me having a partner that believes in my dreams. Of course theres a bit of a difference, like he is very knowledgeable about cars & likes to explain to me about it while I listen & learn. It’s just, so easy. He is great. My experience with extroverts is that they can’t shut up, and feel insecure when they dont have a topic to talk about. Honestly, you dont have to talk to bond. I swear. I really recommend INFP romantically with another INFP, ENFJ, ESFJ, ISTJ, ENTJ. But the thing with with INFPs with another thinker (T) + judge (J) types is that, there will be some power dynamic imbalanced going on because Infps tend to follow the flow while the thinker +judge personality can be quite controlling on us. I do love a touch of control, and I’m okay with them being rigid on themselves, until… they are rigid on me. Because why put expectations on me, I love the slow life. Accept me for who I am, not try to fix me 😟 While friendship, I’d recommend INFJs, ENFJs, ISFPS, & ENFPs (can be a bit too extroverted and unorganized for me, but they add a lil spice in my life) :)) Hope my explanation helps!

Hey i'm an art student. I'm infp and I fear i'm falling in love with an infp girl in my class (who is also asexual) but I can't stop thinking about her, recently she said she is infp and her thoughts about some things they are similer as mine, she looks very confident,very cool,sings well, and mysterious ect... I can't predict what she tell next but I like everything she tell , I can't stop thinking about her 😬😬😬😬.... I don't think she have a love kind of feeling about me a little(99% sure). ...
