I think all libertarians and ancaps understand that a kid cannot actually sign contract because they're not capable of full self-governance. One needs to prove self governance in order to not be considered a kid or that, generally, you need to be in the guardianship of another and someone is willing to fulfil that position. Therefore, no way could you say a 13 year old could consent to any verbal or written consent. Legit, if a kid waddles up to basically any storefront and asks for, well, anything. You sell to the kid, you're engaging in contract with someone who cannot really think for themself. Otherwise, you'd just see the kid popping in candies, drinking alcohol and puffing flavored disposable vapes. By nature, it is considered coercion.

We used to be able to agree about what went too far without saying that people should be able to whatever they want with their own kids. Sex, gender, and orientation are genetic characteristics that you are born with, and should know what you are as soon you start feeling attraction. If you don't know yet, you have some sort of brain disease I have never heard of and should go to a doctor immediately. What is sexualized media? Biology class? Real things and genetic groups that exist in both humans and animals? Sex Ed that helps prevent pregnancies and sexual abuse? Trans is a genetic disability where gender and sex don't match, it happens in 1% of late dimorphic animals, including humans, although I agree we should be certain and precise, ignoring is only going to lead to suffering. I was even surprised by the precision, even though most don't know how to differentiate, by having many tests they got the majority right. Also, the number of cases is not 1% still, far below it, so why so much panic? They have a regret rate inferior to heart surgery. This is being blown out of proportion.

I'm still not convinced. I think that the parental consent thing might be good, but really parents and their children, what the children do, it's a negotiation. It's a negotiation that the child always wins. The mere fact that you cannot stop a kid from doing stuff is evidence of the futility of using force againsg them. Even the parent using force, though the parent is most likely to know what the kid needs besides the kid itself. That's why it's a negotiation. Parents who cannot trust their kids to come out on top of things are bad parents and do not deserve control of their kids. My parents could always count on me to think rationally about things and to listen to their advice and respect the majority of their rules, because they weren't fucking stupid. They knew that they only needed to explain things to me and treat me with dignity. Because they did that, it made more sense for me to follow their rules than to go off half-cocked trying stupid shit and hiding it from them. If a parent cannot control their kid, they DO NOT DESERVE THE KID.

Software engineer here, 12 years of experience and I'd like to weigh in. These laws are not plausible to enforce without giving up other rights and THAT'S the issue here. The only way you could feasible make this law work would be if we required age verification systems, which would give the government AND private companies your full ID. Say goodbye to online privacy and welcome a police state that can track you down for the wrong opinion expressed online. These laws are a gate way to giving the government the tools needed to silence free speech and that's not something we can allow to happen. Child safety is just a scare tactic to make you support these laws, they have nothing to do with child safety. There are PLENTY of ways to protect children online that doesn't require the government getting involved and it only requires parents to do better. If you have data concerns then bring in laws similar to the EU for online data protection and privacy.

They can already do this. Remember what happened to the Canadian truckers? Remember "know your customer" banking laws? Remember the gov't and social media connections that were getting specific posts removed? 99% of the time companies won't even hesitate to give up your information or freeze your account or steal from it the moment the gov't gives an order.
@Beefster09
@Beefster09 Месяц назад
You could implement a system to do this without uploading any ids. There would be an age verification station basically anywhere you can buy cigarettes and lottery tickets that has $1 one time use codes which you could use to register an age gated account. It’s not a perfect system but it avoids uploading ids.
@mintcrisp94
@mintcrisp94 Месяц назад
@@Beefster09 That's just a round about method to upload IDs. Those codes are tied to the store, credit card if you purchase with one and your ID in some cases. All it does is take the database from the provider and moves it to be an independent system which has the same flaws. Assuming you removed any connection to you as a person and instead the code was tied to a temporary verification code, you now have the problem of a completely uncontrollable illicit market buying these codes for kids to use. This doesn't solve the problem and still punishes an adult to cause a mild annoyance to a child who will circumvent these laws. This is before we even bring in VPNs which will be a whole other can of worms.
@mintcrisp94
@mintcrisp94 Месяц назад
@@remyllebeau77 They can't currently do this. The only way they can currently do it is if you give up your information, which you don't have to do in most cases. The Canadian truckers lost their accounts because they gave up their IDs, just like this law is attempting to do for social media. The posts they removed from social media are examined externally, meaning they can remove the post but they have no way of stopping people creating new accounts. The anonymous nature of the internet does require some skill to use, like using no logs VPNs (Mullvad is my recommendation, you can pay by mailing them money if you like, no credit card info ever exchanged, or even use Monero coin.)
