It doesn't matter if the bills seem insignificant to her, to tell the world she doesn't even know what they are indicates she is incompetent and our leaders are incompetent. I'm not fan of gas ranges. I have an induction range and will never go back. While I often recommend induction, there are reasons why it may not be a good fit. If you live in rural area, prone to power outages. Maybe an electric range is not a good fit. Also, if you have a pacemaker, it may not be a good thing to be close to an induction range. The problem is the central planning approach to things like this. We have people making laws that affect people in places they've never been to.

What's funny is, we used to use these washing machines for all kinds of things other than just doing household clothing. We use them to reduce how much paper towels that we're using by using cloth towels, or we're using cloth diapers, when you run it through these energy efficient cycles you end up having to run it through multiple times to get them clean. Recently I had to throw away a whole bunch of clothes because I couldn't get the whites white, I tried all kinds of phosphorus-free chemicals that I could add to the washing machine all I did was end up destroying the washing machine.

Climate Change is real! (I'm required to say that so this post shows up.) By putting all of these regulations on appliance manufacturers to make more "energy efficient" machines (though they become far, far less effecient at their intended tasks), by the year 2100, we will see a drop in temperature of up to 0.0000000000001 degrees from what it otherwise would have been without these myriad regulations. Clearly worth it! Our great grandchildren will thank us for our sacrifice. Or not.

I'd be interested to know how having to buy a low-flow showerhead, or toilet, or faucet, or dishwasher, or washing machine, or anything else, helps in any way the people who live in water-sparse regions like Arizona or Southern California. How does my saving any water at all increase their supply? On the contrary, it seems to make the people in my area just that much more miserable, needlessly, without benefit.

I used to live in Indiana and very few apartments or houses have dishwashers and we were too poor to afford the washing machine and dryers, although some apartments we lived in didn’t even have that. We didn’t have a car, so what we did was we washed our laundry in the bathtub. And I didn’t want dry the laundry outside because birds can poop on it and things like that. so we did small amounts of laundry each day and dried some in the bathroom and some in the bedroom. it takes an enormous amount of time for clothes to dry like that and jeans it takes 2 to 3 days. so you learn to spot clean your clothes if you just have one spot or two or three. And you mostly do underwear each day. And you rotate your clothes and make sure that you have deodorant and that you take a bath quite frequently such as every day or twice a day. I don’t know how people deal with drying their clothes outside all the time though I’ve done that. In the winter time it’s impossible to dry them outside because if it’s cold and dry you clothes are gonna freeze or just be cold but it’s gonna take them a very long time to dry. I’m no longer living there, and I completely agree, hands off of my appliances. I’m all for having more energy efficient appliances, but energy efficiency doesn’t work if I have to use my appliance 2 to 3 times as often to do the same job.

Anyone who actually decides to dig into the Origins of the Ukraine conflict, the further you actually dig into it, the more dirty it makes the United States look. To play a bit of Devil's Advocate, the first water restrictions on appliances back in the 90s seem to actually get the industry to be more efficient to no real cost in quality, but that ship has sailed, any further restrictions since then has come with the cost of quality... it's also ultimately anti-progessive, because the rich just pull strings to get commercial machines installed, instead of residential machines installed into their homes to avoid the restrictions.

The thing that bothers me is that dishwashers, which hardly use any water, are incredibly water efficient because of federal governmental regulations. OTOH, lawns, which use lots of water, are mandated by HOAs, which because of town planning commissions are instituted as this un-holy combination of another level of government and legally enforceable restrictions on land ownership.
@Gabonro
@Gabonro Месяц назад
This is right, but to expand on the appliances. Dishwashers are already more efficient than handwashing, so I don't get the need for stricter regulations. For washers, the issue is those tiny ones. I had one that I got, and it sucked. I learned how to use it and didn't overload it. When it works properly, clothes feel damp because of the moisture in the dryer, but they aren't actually. It's just the air, but it still had issues drying in one cycle. The efficient clothes washer dryer combo I replaced it with is amazing, I'll never go back, but it's because I made sure to buy a large one, not a tiny one. Do loads overnight and never need to remember to swap loads. Can't speak about other appliances.

What about the health outcomes caused by the negative effects of increased emissions? Are we going to any kind of cost-benefit analysis here? No? Okay. The "if people want to buy more energy friendly appliances, they can do so" argument ignores that the consumer does not internalize the majority of the negative effects. "You cannot tell me that's more energy efficient if it takes longer." How do you know? Have you looked into it at all, or just assumed that because it uses more time.

Pretty sure their argument was that Ukraine trumps home appliances debate since Ukraine aid was was not delivered for several months when US projected itself as an ally ... EU countries have given a much larger proportion of their GDP as aid compared to the US, and France is talking 'when' not if troops will be deployed in the region... Let that sync in. I doubt people think that regulating home appliances is not important, I think the shady take you're having on this topic is just plain inefficient, ignorant towards the foreign policies and shows how the US won't stand by 'allies' a few years in war, or if congress decides to be a bit more corrupt that year. You guys are the same FOX, MSNBC, etc. but for a different group. Hope you wear that medal proudly.
@SenileOtaku

We should never have promised all that Ukraine aid in the first place. The only reason we're so invested in Ukraine is because the Biden Family and their cronies have so much invested into Ukrainian companies and Ukrainian corruption. There was a chance early on to negotiate a settlement which would have saved widespread destruction and death, but that would have hindered the Biden's free flow of money. Putin is far from a saint, but Zelensky is far from sainthood as well. I'd agree that punishing an aggressor that invades their neighbouring country is laudable, but this has been ineffective in achieving that goal, and only serves to funnel money into a handful of American and Ukrainian pockets.

So why stop the people who do want those things, it's a minority and insignificant portion of people. It's like banning vinyl because we have more efficient things now such as Spotify. The US is estimated to have lost over 800 million cumulative IQ points due to the use of leaded gasoline. Not to mention all the other health concerns around lead being ariolized. The US didn't stop using lead in gas because of that though, they stopped because cataclytic converters became required, and it damaged those. People noticed the effect when they had to replace those more often and it hit their wallet, they didn't notice all the health effects because those, typically, take a while to show up. All this to say, sometimes it is actually really great that folks make rules saying poeple can't continue to use things that harm others. You using more water than you need to, harms folks. You using a gas stove contributes to polution, causing more asthma and other health effects than there otherwise would be.
