What the conservatives fail to understand is that it isn’t simply a dislike of their policies, it is a deep and fundamental distrust of their party and government
@Capt.Thunder

No, it is their undisguised hatred and disdain for the native population of this country that has made more than two thirds of their voters walk away. Zero Seats for the Tories. Zero Seats for Conform UK.
@elitefencer777
@elitefencer777 16 дней назад
I feel like the opposite is the problem for some of them: they believe that if they just get rid of the leadership, it will patch-over what is, fundamentally, a deeply divided party on policy. At this point, anyone who COULD actually win the premiership in a party election would be practically unelectable in the general. Rishi will stay the PM until then, as much for the desire to not put Braverman in front of a hot mic again, as anything else.

Risky Soon-Out will hear the death knell of his government as millions of UK people vote against the government in the local elections. The police force is underfunded and broken. We have no UK National Guard to get the marchers off our high streets. The NHS which should be a National Healing Service is underfunded and propped up by subcontracting to private healthcare. Central funding to local councils has been reduced. they can't even afford to properly fix the potholes in the roads. And so on . . . .

That is what I am hoping for. The Tories cant foist another leader / PM on us. If he gets caned and I hope he does, then they should try to remove him and he should then be pushed into an election. ITs pathetic seeing him cling on and spin and twist and lie and scheme and frighten people with attacks on Benefits, just to keep himself and his party in power up until the end of the year. VACANCY TAX! That is how you solve the housing crisis. That would trigger a construction boom in the UK, combined with a luxury accomodation tax would mean that the companies would build more hosung. Prices would go down FAST. Saving the UK economy.

As an American, I cannot understand the desire for more conservative in-fighting from some of their MP’s. Nothing erodes public confidence in a party’s leadership capacities like self-inflicted turmoil, and that’s exactly what the Tories would get if they forced out yet another PM of their own. It’s best to just ride out with Sunak and accept they had a long run that must eventually come to an end, and shift focus to being an effective opposition to regain support and bounce back quickly. Nothing is going to save their party from getting clobbered at the next election, but trying to fight the tide will only make it worse. Ironically at home the Republicans risk doing the exact same thing by considering ousting our Speaker of the House again, inviting more needlessly bad optics for the GOP right as the 2024 elections are coming up.

And tell me, who’s better ? Which party will make any dramatic changes and reforms to this country that will actually put in on the path of success and prosperity. Tory and labour are nothing more than an uni party at this point in time and third party is just too unpopular. We could wake up with a labour government tomorrow and our problems will still persist for generations to come.

I went to vote earlier in the local elections, I was the 60th person to vote this was in the evening and there are about 1,000 people eligible per polling station, turn out of the less than 10% the officer said in the polling station, worse than normal, our area is a close battle between Lib Dems and Labour in terms of the council. The officer said 'people don't seem to think local election matter, MP's are higher ranking than councillors, but councillors actually do a lot the affect people's everyday lives more so in many ways than MP's do, so it's important people vote'.

It didn’t get that much coverage but one of the most terrible things the Tories have done recently was regressing the voting system for mayors from alternative vote to FPTP to benefit themselves. Broad daylight election rigging, plan and simple.

Now that we are on the other side of the elections, and we know the absolute trouncing that the Tories have had, I wonder whether Mr. Sunak realises that every day he doesn't call a General is extra time for his voting base to realise that they might prefer to vote for someone else. I wonder whether there will be some sort of a rush to now get a General underway to 'minimise' the damage to the party.

@Letsthinkaboutit-mb7nn I expect they would stand candidates in most seats at the GE. In these local elections, Reform haven’t nominated many candidates, so it isn’t necessarily a good indicator of how they will perform at the next general election.
