It could have been really helpful and informative if u could have shown us the full suit in the video rather than showing us only the top which is also visible until the top two buttons of the jacket 👍🏼
Your height is good enough and is more towards the average side . World wide avg is 175 cm You aren’t really short so I believe u will pull off the double breasted suit in an amazing way
Damn that's risky but good luck to you man. The greater the risk the greater the pay as I always say. Here I am at 5'7.5-5'8 (Not exactly sure) doubting that I can pull off a 4x2.
Its absolutely okay for shorter men to wear double breasted suits, it all a matter of proportions. The same can be said for a larger man wearing a suit, lapels, vents, pockets all need to come together to make the suit fit the person who is wearing it, i.e. the man should be wearing the suit, not the suit being worn on the man, there is a difference and if men do not know the difference, they need to read and or watch more on FIT and how it FUNCTIONS with the FABRIC with the individual wearing it. Great video, keep'em coming, as your advise is not just good for the vertically challenged but for EVERYONE who wishes to look not just good but the best they can be in their clothing!
A double breast really makes you feel like a unit and as a man that stands 6 ft 4 inch , my double breasted suit makes me feel like a dressed up leprechaun
Maybe I will try one day. Never tried one before so do not know how it looks on my body. is double breasted suit generally more expensive than normal suits?
Good video Brock, any thoughts on three button suits and shorter gentlemen? More than double breasted suits, I have heard that 3 button suits look better on taller men.
I invested in a double breasted suit and it's one of the best choices I made my wife says it's one of the best she's seen because you don't see them very often and it is a real head turner I did have to give it a bit of a mod tho I removed the belt loops and made some side adjuster and always wear them with braces and to kill it off good old school penny starched detachable collar with tie by to have me feeling like nucky out of broadwalk empire
Any suggestion on places to find suits, or brands too look out for? I feel it's difficult to find suits that fit right because most brands aim for the average built gentleman or tall gentleman.
+Lenny Roman I've never bought a DB suit or jacket off the rack. The one I'm wearing is custom from a company called Knot Standard. I can't really recommend them b/c it took a lot of effort to get this suit to fit well after the initial make. Probably just had a bad experience, but still.
***** I would buy the best quality I could afford at any given time. Right now, I'm lucky to get most of my suits for free, usually as part of a sponsorship or review. But if I were to buy a new suit for myself right now, I would probably go full bespoke (never done that before), which would cost at least a couple thousand.
Definitely a good look. And pulled off impeccably might I add. Day 1 StyleCon get up, am I right? Knot Standard did a great job on my very first and only MTM suit thus far (Madison Navy suit). Looks like a DB suit may have to be my second.
Six buttons suits are proper business suits and only elegant smart classy gentlemen wear them. Only people who don’t know about these suits will say such a thing…
1) What is your advice on peacoat specially the navy 740? 2) Do you know store that customized peacoat, not only style but also the size like the length to get a perfect fit?
The only thing with 4 vs 6 button. Is which has bigger V opening. I saw some companies where 6 is more and 4 is less or reverse. Some brands have the same opening. I want the biggest opening if I can
I’m short with very broad shoulders. Though I’m thin, young and look very nice naked, I look like a stupid monkey in a suit. Since the shirt and tie is less dominant/exposed on a DB suit, it visually corrects my wide areas and shortness.
I have to disagree with the 4 button suit, 6 button double breasted suit is much more classic than the 4 button. I think going to 4 button is too extreme, if we have to be so extreme about our clothing, then we should all be wearing nothing but 1 button suit, or even a 2 by 1 double breasted suit! nail the fit, shorter jacket, higher armhole and that's all it takes! Even Brock himself can make mistake, for example, he avoid a 6 button configuration, but... he have a TICKET POCKET ON HIS SUIT! AND A CUFF on his trouser, compare to 6 button suit, these 2 mistakes are 10 times more serious.
Hello Mate..I couldn't find the full description foto of this suit...can you tell me where i can find it...Humphrey Bogart was short...but his db suits were just awesome....and could you plz tell me how it costed you to make this bespoke suit....very very dapper...
You look magnificent in this suit, I got a Boggi Milano suit on a 90% sale from 1,800$ to 200$ but m confused if I need to buy it "its a last piece and need some alterations as its 1 size over mine" What do you think? Waiting a wedding to try it is strange too :) Subscribed :))
Great topic! I am also thinking about a db suite. I think I will give it a try. The tips are good. Thank you! But I disagree with the 3. rule. The top two buttons on a 6x2 or 6x1 are just decorations and they stretch you optically like the buttons at the sleeve . The more important point from my view is the high of the neckline. The lower it is the better it looks. So the buttons have to sit as low as possible. And the notches or peaks of the lapels as high as possible. Anyway, your db suit looks great on the picture at Instagram. I found a great tailor for mtm stuff. I think I will go with chalk strips or window plane. Thank you for the video! Artur
+A H Fair enough. I think it's okay to go with 6 buttons if you like it. Just have to be careful that they're spaced out correctly. Good luck with your new suit!
Does the color of a double breasted suit make a man look shorter? For example, will a black suit make a man look shorter whereas a grey may not make him seem as short?
In general, dark colors are more slimming (cliche but true). But fit is more important than color. And a suit always works well - assuming it fits - because it's one color on your whole body (no stark contrast between your top and bottom halves). So I'd say pick the color you like best and don't worry about which makes you look taller. When in doubt, though, go dark (not black...navy or grey).
Arrived here by mistake and what a great surprise. Great videos and advices. I am with you from now on. Any advice to shop suits and jackets in the Internet? And thanks for the great video.
How come I am only coming across this now? Awesome tips. We are about the same height, Brock, so can I borrow yours just once? Lol Yours is really on point!! I love it. But if a double breasted suit is limited to occasions, then I do not need one, or maybe when I'll visit England one day ;)
Its not true... it what the companies and tailor say to avoid tailor it. they say it because it hard! I had the same problem. you can see the line of the shoulder
I don't think that double breasted suits look flattering on anybody--not even JFK, Jr.! They are as outdated as pleated pants and 3-button suits. I would recommend 2-button single-breasted suits. If you want to be a little different, then get a 3-piece suit (2-breasted suit + vest).
Sorry Frank a. You are wrong about double breasted. Pleated pants...etc. they are all very popular....put on one you are going to look awesome..SMILE ..blessed day 2 you
They just seem out of style. Double breasted suits is something you see in gangster movies. I have never personally saw anyone wear one. It is just not my style. Cliche in the sense that it seems like someone is trying too hard. Just my opinion.
The Modest Man Actually it's true, you're just in denial. Short men tend to look like a boy in a suit, not a man. To look good in a suit you need two thing's, height and a good physique. Short guys, or heavyset guys rarely look good in a suit. If you don't believe me, put them next to a taller guy who is in killer shape and you tell me who looks better. There is a reason why models are taller and not shorter, it's because they look better in the clothes that they are modeling .
If you’re actually short and not just trolling, I hope you realize someday how wrong you are about wearing suits. It’s all about fit. Any man can look great in a suit if it fits properly. Body type isn’t nearly as important as you think (look at Winston Churchill and MLK Jr.). Short and thin guys look great in suits too (look at Dave Franco or Aziz Ansari).
