Can Spartans be infected by the Flood?

In Halo 5, you can unlock a ViSR color named "FLOOD". It description states that is designed for Spartans tasked in Forerunner facilities holding samples of the parasite. So that means they have some form of preparation as you said

Halo Wars happened in 2531. And Red Team on Spirit of Fire encountered Flood on Shield World 0459. Jerome-092, Douglas-042, Alice-130. They're the first known Spartan-IIs to encounter the Flood.

Johnson may technically not be immune but you have to consider the facts from the book. He said he survived because they didn’t like the way he tasted. Maybe they’d try to infect him, get a bit of blood from a scratch or something, and decide to ignore infecting him altogether. EDIT: Just remembered, the book actually said he’s immune. ONI wanted to perform an autopsy on him to develop a cure for others infected by the Flood. Chief kept his secret for him because he knew that if ONI found out, Johnson would be killed. Don’t ask me how they’d reverse the serious deformation that comes along with being infected, I don’t believe they explained that part.

The members of Red Team onboard Spirit of Fire have extensive experience fighting the flood, plus since they were never issued late war Mark IV armor or anything more advanced, they never had the benefit of energy shields to help them avoid infection forms. In any case, I think that the UNSC can pretty easily prevent any of their Spartans from being infected (though not killed) by simply adding some programming to the biological sensors on their suits to identify a flood infestation in the wearer of the suit and respond by channeling the power for the energy shields (generated by their microfusion power packs) into incinerating the subject wearing the suit in order to prevent the compromised Spartan from becoming an active flood form. Heck, depending on the situation, the programming might even detonate the fusion pack, no only incinerating the Spartan but blowing up everything around the spartan in a multi-kiloton nuclear explosion.

Haven’t watched the video yet, but going off of Chief’s close call in First Strike, I’m gonna say it’s possible. But on the same note, Johnson was totally avoided by the flood due his Bohr’s syndrome (I think that’s what it’s called). I’m not sure if Chief’s augments would have a similar deterrent effect on the flood like A.J.’s, so I’m gonna say maybe. Now to watch the video and see that I’m 100% wrong. Edit 1: Wrong book. Not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet, but i would imagine the three from Gamma company of the Spartan 3's would be even more resistant due to their severe neurological modifications.

I would like to point out that spartan II’s didn’t have the same genetic and neurological triggers as the Orion project guys. The problem that was explained in on of the books was that B syndrome caused an unstable genetic structure making it so the bodies genetic code would shift randomly all the time. When a flood form would attach, it would copy the genetic structure but immediately get attacked by the other cells that carry a different genetic structure. It would pretty much cause the flood form to be allergic to their blood. In the words of sgt johnson, they didn’t like how he tasted. Infection forms aren’t the only way a flood can infect someone, it’s also carried in breathable spores but cannot create combat forms. The spores just kill things and convert them to flood biomass.

Nice video! Though i'll have to Correct you on a couple things with the spartan augmentations. Spartan IIs had the best but most lethal procedure of augmentations (given at the time it was new and the UNSC science/doctors didnt know what to expect) and as we know some canidates were left crippled or dead, but some got reinitiated back into to service.They could go spartan time (explained in the book Fall of Reach with 117 John's experience). Said augmentations also made them more adjusted to the mjilnor armor and its many variants. Spartan IIIs were given almost the same augmentations and then some new ones, but were more refined so that canidates and initiates can go through the procedure and survive at a 100% success rate in contrast to the spartan II's initial procedure. However the distinguishing feature of them. Was that they were given an augmentation that would make them go..(I hate to say this because of Dragon ball) "Ultra instinct spartan". As in what ever survival instinct of "Fight or Flight" they have, given the situation, it would kick the Fight response into overdrive. Making them go into a state of "Frenzy" and said spartan will not stop fighting even with large blood loss, limbs cut off, or even extreme body disfigurement. They would just keep going until they lose all blood or are completely eviscerated. This is shown in ghost of onyx with one if team katana's members and in Halo reach when Emile gets impaled with a sword only to fight back miraculously and proceeds to take out that elite and the surrounding elites.

Yes Spartans can be infected by the Flood. Johnson is not immune to the Flood but he was resistant to an extent. But no Spartan is known to be immune to infection. If Forerunner warrior-servants and ancient human supersoldiers aren't immune with their vastly superior augmentations then Spartans wouldn't be.

There is actually a visor in Halo 5 which is called "Flood" and it is said to be used by Spartans if they are going up against the flood.

I saw someone else attempt to say this but mess it up, so in the fall of reach book (if I’m not mistaken) it’s mentioned that Johnson is immune to the flood due to radiation from plasma grenades. There was a whole plot point on how he had to decide to sacrifice himself to let people study him, or to continue on without mentioning it (if I’m not mistaken)

Johnson wasn't a spartan 1. Spartan 1's were the spartans from ancient times as Dr. Halsey stated in the book Fall of Reach. Johnson is more of a spartan 2 failure, but still a badass.
