Can students on an F1 visa bring any dependents?
For an F1 student, their spouse and children under the age of 21 can be considered dependents under F2 status. Parents are not eligible for F2 dependent status. F2 dependents are not allowed to work in the US. While children of F1 students can enroll in primary or secondary schools, F2 dependents cannot enroll in a full course of study at a college or university. If an F2 dependent wishes to pursue full-time higher education, they must apply for a change of status to F1. However, F2 dependents are permitted to enroll in part-time courses.
