I was an alpine skier up until a back injury two years ago, right before starting, i would tie my poles to my gloves, then pull my ski mask down, then sort of punch myself on my helmet with the top of my poles and then set them out of the start gate to push myself out to start the race. I guess it was a way to tell myself to wake up and use my head or what not lol
