Can't charge EV

Electric vehicles are very popular, but they are also causing new problems, like a charger being taken from a resident and blocking him from charging his car. Can management do that? To find out, he called Help Me Howard with Patrick Fraser.

Stringing live unattended electrical wires down trelaces, across dirt, sidewalks and cement/asphalt alleys and parking areas for anything other than occasional temporary use is a bad idea, and it's against code to do this on a permanent basis almost everywhere. Not only does doing this constitute a tripping hazard, but if the wiring is old or damaged (even if the damage is not visible to the naked eye), the chance of shock (and possible electrocution) also exists, especially in wet areas. Live electrical cables should not rest on the ground (outdoors) for any reason other than temporary situations, and Ground Fault Isolators (GFI's) should always be used to protect lives. This is best practice.

HOA still has to outline the policy in its bylaws as well, which doesn’t sound like it happened. A property manager (which is more often that not outsourced by the HOA) can’t just do it by edict or fiat. Level 1 chargers run on a 110v household outlet, and in most cases, have automatic load management to prevent tripping a breaker. Sounds like was on the fence about buying an RV beforehand, and (if he chose to tow a car) a Leaf is a great runabout. So good for him.

Dollars to donuts he was told to move the charger. He chained it in front of another unit and partially in what’s known as “common areas”. Just cause he had it stuffed into a shrub. He was running an electrical cord from an upstairs unit, over the balcony down in front of another resident’s door and walkway. No, that is beyond a fire hazard, a nuisance for other residents, and way out of code. Most manufacturers of these vehicles will revert to alternate energy sources that will not self ignite, except for BYD they have dug their own grave at the behest of the CCP. False, can be done on a standard 120-volt outlet, and 12 AWG cord no longer than 50-ft. No normal person wants an EV charging next to their car. They're a fire hazard.

@@calvinwalker4654 Indeed I do, because I spend far too much time surfing the net and seeing all the evidence. Weird I know but don't knock it until you've tried it. When 10 BYD showrooms go up in smoke in one year, that should tell you something?

@@bigglyguy8429 _I spend far too much time surfing the net and seeing all the evidence._ Yes, I'm sure you've seen a number of photos of EVs on fire. But what you and your ilk haven't figured out so far, or more likely know full well but won't acknowledge because it doesn't fit your narrative, is that it's not *common* events that make the news, it's actually *rare* events that do so. So the very fact that you've found a number of online articles about EV fires is proof that they're rare. And every study that's ever been done shows that EVs have fires at a much lower rate than either ICE vehicles or hybrids. _When 10 BYD showrooms go up in smoke in one year_ That's just false. "BYD Reportedly Sees 10th Showroom Fire *Since 2021* As Store Burns Down In China" (CarScoops). I'm pretty sure that "since 2021" is 3 1/2 years, and not one year as you falsely claimed. Please stop making stuff up; it damages your credibility. I also wonder if you've drawn any conclusions from the claim that out of dozens of brands of EVs, *every one* of these affected one brand only-BYD. If you wish to regain some of your lost credibility, please tell us what conclusion about fire risk in EVs you've drawn from this fact. Well wait...

@@bigglyguy8429 so surfing the Internet makes you knowledgeable on the subject of electric vehicles. Oh geez… since you like surfing, the Internet why don’t you do some research on gasoline vehicle fires. You know, people burn to death and gasoline vehicles crashes, right? There’s so much bad information and misinformation out there that causes FUD. If someone is just hating on something because they feel like being a troll, then I usually ignore it but it’s sad to see what sounds like an educated person so misinformed

@@calvinwalker4654 I'm a bit of a petrolhead and I'm VERY familiar with petrol and diesel vehicles. Diesel is actually difficult to set on fire. Petrol will put out a lit cigarette if you dunk it into the liquid. Petrol vapor, mixed with air, is where it gets dangerous, but even then you need an ignition source. EV batteries can burst into flames at any time, without any warning or apparent reason, and especially while charging or when in a highly charged state. When I take my drone on aircraft I have to put the batteries in an anti-fire bag. Laptops and the like cannot go in cargo - because of the fire hazards. But somehow much bigger, more dangerous batteries are A-OK? I have an EV - a monowheel, which I leave outside the house and away from anything flammable.
