Can't See to Tie Flies?  

Hi. Can u tell me the make of the ones u got of Amazon. I am looking to get myself aset.

I bought this headgear after seeing this video and all I can say is, WOW! Best thing ever for tying flies.

Ive had to go this route now stuggling at 63,love the videos its a long time since I first started tieing lot more tieing and better techniques thank god for you tube

I purchased a similar lamp to yours about 30 years ago. About five months ago I bought a pair of modelers hobby glasses, similar to what you use now. I like this a lot more than the lamp! I do not however think anyone should wait until they really need them, because they make us better tyers! As soon as I bought my magnifying lamp, I was able to tie neater heads, better heads, easier to add more material. Buy one right after you start or go the less expensive route and buy the glasses. My magnifying lamp was $150 Canadian, kind of crazy thirty years ago thanks for this Monday, you do a great video!

Good timing for this video as I have been exploring different magnifier options. I saw Orvis sells readers with 4x and 5x magnification for $60 US, but I like the idea of the head mounted one better. Thanks Lindsay.

Great stuff! I got one of those white ones at Lee Valley tools here in Canada it was on sale dirt cheap! And I absolutely love it! I took the light out of it and threw it in the garbage as it was useless and just adds weight to the unit. I like it because I can still wear my corrective glasses with it. This was extremely helpful. My eyes are gone to shite and this will be a life saver. I've started tying classic salmon flies and counting fibres for married wings has been a struggle. Reckon these are the way forward. Thanks.

Thanks for the review ,my problem is tying the fly on ,especially when using fine leaders stroft etc however I've made up a double sided card of black one side and white on the other kept in my vest pocket to act as a background/site board with foam fitted to one edge for hook placement

All the black one needs is a band fitted to it which across the top to rest on your head (scalp) then it couldn't slip down.

Good video, just got back from blanking lol. Not surprised though when you see a ford fiesta parked in the middle of my favourite pool

Just received mine from Amazon. Superb bit of gear. 2.5 X lens every bit as good as the one on my old Optivisor which costs about £80!

I've gone exactly the same path as you. Found the magnifying glass too awkward to work round. The second head one the same problem as you, but then got one very similar to your third one from Aliexpress. It cost me about $20 Australian and it's fantastic. I use it a lot, even on big flies

You must be psychic! Currently I am struggling with a very old optivisor of my late father's. It is falling to bits and held together with glue from my tying bench. Have looked at the various visors on Amazon and eBay and did not know which to get. Now I know. Purchase completed :-))

Do you find when you look away in another direction you cant see and have to take them off or lift them up?
