TBH, this deck should just be running Bowmasters, Its immune to pox itself and is also removal and wins games on its own. SHadow Spear on bowmaster sounds fun.
Back when I was playing paper I moved from Pox to 8Rack and won way more despite 8Rack being theoretically worse in a cantrip-dominated metagame. It did better vs Burn, it did better vs D&T, it did better vs tribals and Junk piles, it did better vs glass cannon combos. And it did roughly the same vs the Delver decks, Miracles, Big Red and Lands. That was way back in Khans Standard, Pox has been worse than a slightly tuned Tier 3 Modern deck for almost as long as the Modern format has existed.
Most of my friends back in the day sell their smallpox because the card effect is a pain,when smallpox is my dream to have card set here in Asia...smallpox is an abusive card...and I love it since the early 2000s
in my experiments with black stompy The One Ring, and Sheoldred, the Apocalypse sticking together is basically an automatic victory, problem is obviously getting two 4 drops to stick together but it's been fun at my LGS
Sounds fun. I do agree that if you run the one ring, you should have some way of making sure that you can either lifegain or quickly take over the game after you draw a bunch of cards, so that you don't die to the ring. And sure, Sheoldred is one way of doing that.
game 1 was it not more efficient use boseiju and loam to wipe the artifact tokens and strixs and then your edict to clear breacher? i get you missed needle in grave but even so splitting on boseiju and saga seems better then grabbing 2 sagas
I suspect that with the current power level of Legacy as it is, Bloodghast and amalgam aren't good enough anymore. Much harder to grind them out nowadays. Hence I think the more frontloaded power of Urza's Saga is better. Although maybe you can have Bloodghast and Saga?
Phil has the unfortunate tendency to be tempted by the ring, and be tempted by glacially slow grinding decks at the same time. The Ring is at its best in decks that can just kill the opponent before the life loss becomes too much. But I guess Phil is enough of a master to Lily-ult himself to sac the ring.
I don't think exploration is that good here. It's only good if you already have like Life from the Loam + Wasteland up and running against an opponent who is vulnerable to that, and those are the games where you're already favored. Exploration is powerful but also slightly win-more-ish.
