Hello everyone, recently Team China has been announced! The team consists of Lu Yu Fei 芦玉菲, Ou Yu Shan 欧钰珊, Tang Xi Jing 唐茜靖 and Zhang Jin 章瑾 alongside 2 specialists who are Fan Yi Lin 范忆琳 and Guan Chen Chen 管晨辰. Congratulations to these girls, I cannot wait to see what greatness they bring to the Tokyo 2021 Olympics! 加油!
Based on the 2021 Chinese Nationals and Olympic Trials, I have calculated the potential score of Team China as a team. There is some math involved here so allow me to break it down :D
~
Each gymnast has a total of 4-5 routines for each event (2-3 from Nationals, 2 from Trials but not all of them competed AA at all competitions so some only had 3 scores routines), I dropped the outlying score (which was normally the lowest score) and found the average of the remaining 3-4 scores. If they had qualified to an event final in nationals the total number of routines in consideration would be 5, hence the average will be of 4 scores after dropping the lowest score.
*Note : I used Tang Xi Jing's vault scores from 2019 worlds since she had not competed the DTY this year, so I assumed her score would be around her 2019 world vault scores. Also, I used Lu Yu Fei's vault score from the 2nd Olympic Trials because she had been competing a downgraded vault for every other competition. Additionally, I also used 3 scores for her bars average because she had fallen on 2/5 routines and she would usually score in the mid-high 14s and if I had counted the fall it would not have reflected her potential score.
And that is the math going behind these bizarre decimal points you see in the video! Thank you for watching and I hope you guys enjoy the video!

Hi everyone! Just some notes again :D Firstly, Ou Yu Shan *did not compete all around* in the olympic trials, so the average scores may not be an accurate representation of her potential scores, but *it should not deviate too far internationally!* Secondly, Lu Yu Fei *upgraded her vault to a DTT* in the olympic trials. As such, calculating her average score from nationals and trials would not be the best estimate of her potential score (because she only performed a full twisting tsukuhara at nationals). *So I just used her score from the olympic trials.* Thirdly, it was difficult to find footage from the internal olympic trials! As a result, it was not easy to truly know the form and shape they are in aside from reports, but I believe *we can trust the scores and information. I don't think the scores are too overinflated :>* *All the best to the Chinese team in Tokyo! I really hope that they can hit all their routines because they have great potential and bring graceful, poised and beautiful gymnastics! 中国队,加油! 💪💪*

I have a video suggestion! The Chinese Alternates are really strong : LTT : AA LR : AA QQ : VT / FX WX : UB / BB Could you do a video using their scores to see where they stand compared to the real team? Like the US version?

I will make one, however the scores for this alternate team is slightly more difficult to calculate, because not all of them competed AA this year so I had to use scores from 2019 worlds and 2020 Chinese nationals + individual championships to find a more accurate average for them. In addition, I might make some changes to your line-up to maximise the scoring potential. 😅

@@annapavfan4680 I definitely agree. I feel like China finally shift their focus away from only long lean bars type of gymnasts and incorporated power in the mix as well. They’re starting to have vault and floor difficulties that are actually pretty competitive and have podium potential. If they continue to this path and work on perfecting their consistency, they will definitely put up a fight against the US and can potentially be the next powerhouse country. Russia among all the countries is probably the one I’ve noticed the least progression on. They have the same type of gymnasts. Same technique. Poor consistency and just super outdated. They’re still good but if they don’t keep up, other countries can easily kick them off the top 3 most dominant teams.

Anyone know the difference between a Healy and a Ling? I'm generally pretty good at figuring out the difference between similar skills, but these get me every time.
@FlyHighGymnastics
@FlyHighGymnastics 3 года назад
Healy begins in reverse grip and ends in L-Grip. On the other hand, a Ling begins in L-Grip and ends in L-Grip! Usually you will see a slight hop when the gymnast performs the ling so that should help distinguish these turns!

@@FlyHighGymnastics so then what’s an ONO and l grip full.
@FlyHighGymnastics
@FlyHighGymnastics 3 года назад
An Ono starts in L-grip and ends in reverse grip. The most distinct feature of the Ono is the arm passing high over the bar like Nastia's! An L-Grip full is also a pirouette that begins in L-Grip and ends in L-Grip. However, the turn is completed with both hands, instead of the E turns (Healy,Ling,Ono) which "rotates" on one hand. I hope this helps! Feel free to clarify any doubts you have!

China is only about 3 point behind if everyone hit. So if USA fall 3 times and China hit, then yes. While a fall is 1 point but technically you also lose the skill value unless you repeat. And if you repeat you get more execution deduction. Plus you might lose connection value depending on where you fall. So technically China only need 2 fall from USA to even the old. However China is normally inconsistent and is normally the other way around. On paper China is 3 points behind but probably will fall 3 time and end up 8 point behind. Before anyone said it should be 6 points behind, if you factor in skill value, execution value and connection bonus it will probably add up to 2 points in addition to the 3 points fall. However USA is not as consistent as in the past and beside Ou Yusahn, everyone in team China is overall consistent.

Can China challenge for A gold medal? Sure on beam! If we are talking about THE team gold however, not likely. You see the problem with just about every other team aside from the US is that they all have either a very WEAK routine or two. For China vault and floor are very weak in my view especially with no QiQi and no Lui Ting Ting. Even so, it would have only make their scores on these apparatuses a little more respectable but as it stands, the US will outstrip them on these two alone by PLENTY. To be able to challenge the US for the Gold Team medal, another country must be VERY STRONG on at least two apparatuses, good on another and decent on the next. China does not qualify based on this assessment and neither does any other country. Besides, Chinese teams over the years seem to always perform with a lot of pressure of expectation and never handle it well. We can hope that this time around they do better but even at their best it still wont be enough.

@@tracycordova5040 I think China's strength COULD be on beam and I say COULD because their routines carry a lot of built in deductions with so much CV attached. It means they would have to hit near perfect routines if they are to get any where near the score their SVs suggest.

Yes, this is where the US has it over everybody else and by MUCH. Bars is not bad and beam is very good too hence for China or any other team to be able to win Gold over the US, it would require a COLOSSAL collapse from team US. The truth of the matter is, the pressure is on the other teams to perform well enough to MEDAL while for the US team, the pressure was for the individuals to MAKE the team itself. Now that is settled, they are going to KILL IT in Tokyo.

Their difficulty start scores are points lower than American start scores.
