55mm on a lens will always be 55mm no matter what. Technically, that focal length doesn't change just because it's a crop sensor. The *FIELD OF VIEW* (which would be 55mm x 1.6) changes. That field of view is what 88mm looks like with that lens on a Canon crop sensor but you're not actually shooting at 88mm.

Yeah, don't you only need to do the calculation when using Full Frame lenses on a crop sensor? Like crop 55mm on a crop sensor is 55mm and full frame 55mm on a full frame sensor is 55mm, but a full frame 55mm on a crop sensor is 88mm? Or am I off? I'd ask about the opposite, but who uses crop lenses on a full frame camera unless they JUST upgraded or the lens has sentimental value?

you can take great photos from any camera and any lens. you have to know how. this lens came out in 2005. I use the lens it's good lens. I need to correct what i said. I use the nikkor 18 55 kit lens .

Starts talking about low light, goes ahead to talk about 85mm as somehow being an "ideal" focal length (what the fuck?), says 55mm on crop is like 88 on full frame and doesn't talk about the aperture conversion. Dude I swear, every photography related short is like it was written by early version chatgpt, and even worse.

The crop factor affects the field of view not the focal length. I can understand how this is construed wrongly because you are getting the field of view equivalent to another focal length but it's not changing the focal length at all but the field of view you're seeing.

This is not right. The cropped sensor only affects the field od view, so it mimicks a longer focal length. The real focal length is the same.

EF-S lenses are primarily for Canon crop sensor, so you'd still get 18-55 equivalent of a full frame body... and not all EFS lenses are mountable on full frame body. If we're talking about EF lenses on a crop sensor then yes, EF 50mm f1.8 (the nifty fifty) would be equivalent to 80mm on a full frame camera.

Well, it would be equal to the field of view you would get at 80mm but you wouldn't actually be shooting at 80mm.

This is so wrong how is it upvoted???? 50mm is 50mm no matter if it’s on an EFS or EF lens. The 35mm equivalent field of view is about 80mm no matter if you put on a nifty 50 or zoom your kit lens to 50

@@macmirasolvlogs1916 I have never had a camera or lenses, so now I buy only RF lenses for my R7. Just for perspective and because I don't like adapters. But if someone already had some EF lenses I highly recommend using them and not wasting money.

@@macmirasolvlogs1916 happy to help 🙂 Now I'm using 80% of the time RF 50mm 1.8, and 20% of the time 16mm 2.8, perfect set for me. Cheap and good quality.
