Yeah, mobility. Something we office-working, weekend-playing, tennis-loving hackers find ourselves lacking.

Better fitness and footwork are the two things that immediatly comes to my head watching Craig. He has solid strokes and knows how to use different shots. Technically, I think it wouldn't hurt him to work on the service, especially developing a more of a kick/bouncy serve for the 2nd.
@DillPlays
@DillPlays Год назад
Yes true his shoulders aren’t what they used to be so the kick is tough for him but I think he does a good job with placing his serve
@herrchmafi3431
@herrchmafi3431 Год назад
Fitness is the key. You can see how well Craig holds up in neutral exchanges. Sure, bigger serve and consistently executed offense are welcome additions, but fitness will help prolong rallies when he's on the run as well as improved footwork which will benefit the rest of his game.
@herbv3449
@herbv3449 Год назад
I think the biggest thing is footwork as well. That is by far the biggest bang for buck change I could spot. Which is really hard to mention by itself without mentioning fitness level. Spot on

Craig, you suffer from the exact same affliction that I do - T-Rex forehand arm. For me, it's great for consistency, but you can see how much it robs you of power and depth - which Dill eats alive. I also, with completely zero evidence, believe it contributed to my golfer's elbow. Thanks for sharing the match guys!

dude, 4.5 has the widest level difference. I've seen 5 utr's and 10 utr guys in 4.5. In this instance, the guy needs better footwork and movement. His serve could be bigger/better too. It looks like you weren't too serious.

1. fitness - everything gets a little easier when you're fit 2. intensity - the 4.5 player is very static before and after hitting; he's not moving his feet, not popping the feet and split-stepping with any kind of energy
@DillPlays

I don't have much more to add than what others here have already said... 1) footwork 2) develop some kind of offensive weapon to close out points 3) a more aggressive serve that is placed better and/or more pace to open up the +1 shot
@craigmorgan1617
@craigmorgan1617 Год назад
D the commentary was great thank you, I would pay for that kind of analysis. I do struggle more with easy balls. I would say that is one of the two great 4.5 failings the other is consistency. Consistency I have but fitness and put away power I lack. Good thing consistency wins allot a 4.5 and ALL the time at 4.0. I’ll work on stepping into returns this week. Is that me as a shadow in the thumbnail? If so I look thin.

@Craig it's amazing you are working on your tennis seriously and I think you play very well. If you do not already know, I think you can achieve more put away power by fixing your forehand and backhand, especially your forehand, the form is off and you often do not have enough space between your body and the ball (jammed).
@ItMaker5000XL
@ItMaker5000XL Год назад
Spacing on the forehand!! Craig hit lots of balls very close to his body. Many were errors in the net. Keep your space and move into it while hitting! I struggle with this a lot as well so it's on my mind lately.
@DillPlays
@DillPlays Год назад

@sairamsunkam7978
@sairamsunkam7978 Год назад
With Craig’s game I feel like he needs to be aggressive from the get go so even though he has a pretty decent serve, he needs to work on that more so that the opponent’s return isn’t as powerful so that he can set up his next shot. He is playing the rallies fine, but he isn’t trying to pick the shots, but that goes with not being aggressive enough. A better return is something else he can improve on. Craig isn’t as mobile as he could be for now so it’s better to be more aggressive than to play the rallies especially against a 5.0. But tbh I don’t think Craig is a 4.5, he is a fantastic 4.0. I think if he was a bit more aggressive could be a 4.5 very quickly.
@DillPlays
@DillPlays Год назад
He went 15-1 in 4.5 this year
@craigmorgan1617
@craigmorgan1617 Год назад
13-1 I went back and counted😂. I beat people with consistency and I’m not as fit as I should be (ice cream rocks). Dill is my hardest match up because I can’t tire him out and he makes minimal errors (also he is just better than me). It’s hard out here for an over 40 fat counterpuncher who plays tennis three times a week and is afraid of lifestyle change.
@10scoach33
@10scoach33 Год назад
First thing I see is lack of footwork, and balance while hitting shots…he seems to be on back foot and hitting balls behind his contact point…it got a little better as set continued but def needs work. He hits a good ball, fitness level def needs improvement, that will make him him stay in point longer, and then finishing points was a little struggle, but it all ties into being in better shape so you can move your feet more efficiently and get your self in proper position to be able to rally longer and the finish. He has the strokes and the ability to reach 5.0 so get in the gym and he’ll def become a better player.

@thejoynerstyle
@thejoynerstyle Год назад
I think he is probably a 4.0 in more competitive cities. He’s really good at moving the ball around. I agree about moving the body weight forward. Also work on the split step and anticipating the ball. He sometimes reacts a little late.

very nice match and very good play from both. If we just look at the first set, I think Craig is super close to 5.0. better fitness/agility is def. needed for higher level. It kind of goes for players on every level. But on Craig's case it's particularly helpful. I think he's trying to hit more aggressively but his feet are just quarter step away from making those shots. Another thing Craig can improve is the split step on EVERY return. At some point during the first set he stopped doing that. I suffer from that too, mostly because of mental or physical fatigue.
@DillPlays
@DillPlays Год назад
Yes fitness is key when playing tennis. Lots of court to cover I think he would agree with you here
@craigmorgan1617
@craigmorgan1617 Год назад
This dude nailed it. Knew exactly what I was trying to do and saw what was preventing me from doing it. Quarter step you say? That motivated me to look harder for that step, I appreciate the feedback. Your right on the split step too, it’s lack of concentration due to playing a National Champion 5.0 while carrying around 235 pounds of raw steel and sex appeal.

@willecutlip Год назад
Sorry, not seeing a 4.5 player here. Why? Every reason you noted, plus his forehand is jammed most of the time and his footwork is slow too much of the time. All this said, he's a strong 4.0 player - consistent forehand, backhand, and serve. As soon as you raised the pace on your shots he had no answer. This must have been played over a month ago, as I remember when court 5 got super dried out and turned into a dust bowl 😳

@@DillPlaysNo disrespect meant here, just responding to the very noticeable difference in play level displayed in the video. No question on the 4.0 rating -- all day long. Having watched the 4.5 play at this year's Club Challenge, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Craig's 14-1 record doesn't include much play against the 4.5s who played in the CC. I seem to remember Westwood, CCV, and Salisbury all having some hard core 4.5s. What club does Craig play out off?
