Well...If Hermont is a 5.0, then your average player is a 1.5. Some seriously high intensity and brutal hitting. I'm sure the balls were happy when the game was done. Amazing series. Thanks as always Winston! M
5.0 rating varies so much, lots of people don’t want to be 5.5 rated and appeal down to 5.0 so they can play leagues. Everyone in my region in 5.0 that gets bumped up appeal down so that they can continue playing competitively because there’s not enough open players for the next league. In the pnw Hermont would have competitive 5.0 leagues matches. USTA ratings are kinda bogus imo, UTR is much better and I hope they do away with USTA ratings eventually
@@-Munditimum- I’m a solid 4.0. I have a hard time telling a 5.0 from a 5.5, until they go H2H. Then you can tell the difference. They would both destroy me, I know that much!
This is the type of match you get when you have 2 baseline grinders that don't give you an inch and you have to work your ass off for every point! And as Hermont said, definitely want to see a rematch in the near future! Well done, guys!
In my area, 5.5 rating means you no longer can be part of social USTA league matches. Just not enough players at 5.5. But UTR 12 is definitely not 5.0.
@@hooxenv9692 i do have some 5.5 in my area, but it is tough to play tennis. Only league they can play is like 10.5 mixed. Or they have to play open division tournaments
@@TTGamingTrinh If I’m 5.5, I probably will quit tennis and pick up a brand new sport. I refuse to sandbag and there isn’t any recreational league for me to socialize and enjoy.
I’m a tennis coach in CT and Toby was playing in a tournament at my club. I remember doing a few hitting lessons with him a couple years ago and I was very impressed. Glad to see his game has grown and he will be going to Brown University!
I thought Hermont was spot on with his assessment, and looked visibly slower and less aggressive as match went on. I thought he was gassing too. It's tough trying to play these insanely fit young kids out there with an endless gas tank!! Great match guys!
Toby has a cannon of a serve, holyyyy, and Hermont just being the absoulte human wall he is, unbelievable level these two, Great content as usual Winston! 👏👏👏
Such an excellent video. Thanks Winston for getting us right on court w the players. I enjoy watching more than watching some of the televised pro matches!
Love the camera angle on this match. You can really see the height of almost every baseline shot they hit. And then see how low and flat their aggressive shots are.
Great match and a nice comeback from Toby! Excited to see his game grow and will be keeping an eye on his college career. Just needs to hit fewer double faults or else I could beat him with a ping pong paddle in a wheelchair...
It's easy to see Toby's potential - his skill is apparent. Great consistency with his strokes, decent variety with his serve, great feet. He looks like a coach's dream. With some good coaching and the additional physical strength he'll gain with time, he's gonna be a beast!
I love Tobys game, such great patience and form. I think he really started to figure out that he would probably have a better chance at the forehand to forehand exchanges as the match went on (I think it probably happened after the 4th game). Super high quality from both guys!
Felt like in the 4-4 game toby was crushing his backhand which set up a bunch of solid wins. Toby's backhand looks to me nearly form perfect. The racquet dipping on the end of the back swing before unleashing the coil is a classic sign of a good backhand, and allows him to generate pace more effectively from that side compared to hermont.
Toby looks like Sinner, just hammering pace down the big middle. BH and FH grounded approaching triple digits. He’s not going to be an eleven for long. Thank you for posting this
What a great match. They both played so well! Looking forward to seeing more of both players on your channel and seeing Toby going deep in this tournament series 💪🏻
High quality tennis from both players. V impressive. Hermont has a great return of serve and overall is v consistent (I can only dream). Toby has a nice kicking serve and consistent ground strokes with mixed up shots. Thank you.
Great match. Toby started getting more of his body into the ball as the match went along. Started off hitting all of his forehands as reverse pivots, and then started double pivoting his body into it as the match went along.
Toby is a terrific player. He just graduated from high school, and his skill level is more like a 13 UTR. The other player was also very good. Congratulations to both players. Please never stop playing this beautiful game.
toby is amazing but he’s nowhere near 13 utr level yet not quite close to 12 yet either. he has a very bright future ahead of him but comparing him to a 13 already is a bit extreme. his intensity and mental toughness could be compared to a 13 tho
Neck and neck in terms of competitiveness. Hermont was definitely the front runner in the beginning to middle of the match , but as the match wore on Toby started to make less errors on his side and kept taking those timely but huge strokes. My god, I'm tired watching the match haha. Great 1v1 for sure, can't wait for the rematch !
Wow, top tier content. Toby putting on a total clinic... the chip returns on Hermont's first serve totally neutralized one of his biggest weapons. At some point he realized his backhand was better than Hermont's, and hit every ball there, avoiding Hermont's other biggest strength. It seemed like if the point ever went to Toby's backhand, it was his point.
Hermont is BACK!!!! Bro you should put his name in the title. I almost didn't watch this one. I usually skip the unknowns or random players you bring in but a few of these guys are really great to watch and always immediate. Hermont is one of them. Such a fun player to watch and a great attitude.
I’m a Hermont fan. Just love the way the guy thinks thru a match. Toby is awesome I wish him the best at Brown. I honestly think as things stand right now they would go about 50/50 if they played each other consistently. Good match!
Toby hits so deep and with great pace , just completely took hermont out of his normal game which seems to be more attack based. Interested to see him play the other matchup
Toby is gonna be amazing when he learns how to attack and come to net. Props to his coach for getting him to work on it, like he said he was going to before the match (even though he didn't). Even now, when he's locked in, he plays way above 11.
Man impressed with Toby's strokes. Maybe he was pressing a little too much at the start cause the legend of Hermant is known all around SoCal now thanks to Winston.
Awesome, heavy hitting and good movement from both. Top notch amateur level, very fun to watch. Hard to grasp these guys probably still loose bagels to top atp pros. But then who knows? What do you think? I was decent club and team player. 40 years ago. At times i thought i was potentionally quite good. But against these two: no chance. Even back then. Tennis definitely grew in depth. Good, it's a great sport.
The amount of fitness required to play at this level must be insane. Old farts like me would be out of gas after a few rallies like these given that we can somehow keep the rallies going.
Hermont up 4-0 and a 30-40 break point for 5-0, from that point Tobey wins 8 straight games !!! I don’t think Hermont ever lost 8 straight games in his life. I think Tobey was nervous on beginning and Hermont was physically fresh, but half way Tobey started to play more free and Hermont couldn’t keep up physically. Tough, but gosh Tobey got beautiful technique and strokes, Hermont played perfect strategic points but Tobey flawless strokes and aggression took over. I wanna see rematch !!!
I said it in a previous video, but I''ll say it again: Hermont is so good! Dude is very consistent. I'm a 4.5, and if he is a 5.0, I don't think I'll ever get to that level.
I doubt it…ivy league tennis has extremely high level tennis players and brown is the weakest Ivy League tennis program. Also 11.2 is kind of low Utr compared to the top Ivy League players who might be closer to 13-14.
"Just for positive feedback, I think when you guys speak about equipment, you could add some text about it on the screen for better visualization. Keep it up, Winston!"
Toby's ball is slightly slower but spinnier and heavier than Niels's, giving Hermont no pace to work with. Big loop with decent swing weight (lead tape added to 3, 9 & 12) combo makes his forehand deadly and consistent.
A very entertaining match; I'm just curious: what are their heights? Another thing: I know everyone plays differently but the contrast between the way Toby plays and the way someone like Federer plays is very apparent. If you play a 5 set match, being able to play efficiently becomes very important.
Even after the first 4 games, I felt it was really close. Toby got a little fewer errors then and came back. Toby HAS the skill, but so does Hermont. Hermont could have won the math. Congrats to Toby for buckling down. Hermont is definitely better than a 5.0. In USTA league, he would dominate most 5.0's, at least in singles.
