In this video, I buy my first manual car. For those of you who don't know, Chris has been teaching me over the last year to drive stick shift. It took me a while, but I started loving it once I got the hang of it. We bought and sold an 86 mustang out in Arizona this year, and I fell in love with it. Once we got back home to Pennsylvania, I just had to have one of my own. Come along with me, while I enjoy driving, working on, and playing with my new whip! There are for sure some hiccups along the way.

If you disconnect the incoming hose from the transmission going to the radiator, use a small amount of compressed air and blow back in the line. What it does, is blow back through the filter and clears it. It will eventually clog again. i actually ran my Civic like this for about 70,000 miles. I kept a can of compressed air and hose that I made to attach to the transmission hose, and had it down to about a 6 minute process. Just be careful not to use a lot of pressure, and a slightly warm engine helps. When it's cold it will blow right back at you. Also, if you take the transmission dipstick out, you will actually hear it clear, gurgle and blow air.

Great work Jen . I have one tip for you that you will thank me for someday . Although Chris has likely told you already , always be VERY aware where your fingers will land when the bolt or nut you are cracking comes loose . When the bolt cracks , your hand and fingers will SLAM into whatever is in their path ! It happened AND continues to happen to everyone . It's not something that happens only once . I have many scars on my hands, arms, fingers, etc. Happy wrenching !!🙂🙂

Jen, I'm a mechanic and I do yoga. It helps with getting into tight spots and remaining calm when faced with adversity. I totally admire yours and Chris' tenacity when it came to pulling apart the Mustang interior to get rid of every last bit of mouse destruction. Every time I watch your channel or Chris' channel it brings me back to when I bought my first project; a 1993 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham. It wasn't in the best shape and it wasn't running either, but I didn't give up. I made it into something beautiful and I still have it.

My first car was a 86 mustang! My dad got it for me when I was 14 but he said I had to do all the work on it but he would help. it was wrecked needed new front clip and just about every panel replaced. By the time I was 16 I had it all fixed up had a 93 front clip and cobra body kit on sitting on 19’ cobra r rims it was a 5 speed with dual flow master super 40’s. All throughout high school I drove that car it was primer black sounded like a stock car and I loved it!. It tought me the value of hard work and making money on my own and made me not afraid to take on projects as a leaning experience. I would give anything to have that car and my Dad back.

Just a hint that can save lots of grief later, always open the hood and the fill cap before draining the oil. There are few things worse than taking the oil out, only to find you can't fill it up again because the hood won't release or the cap won't come off. As for dropping the drain plug, I do it frequently enough, that I was not surprised it happened.

I have a helpful suggestion for you. I noticed the falling headliner. I have done upholstery for years. There is a material I refer to as sew foam. It’s a thin layer of foam with gray cloth attached to the face. It is designed to sew to another layer of material to give a look of for an example padded vinyl. It looks just like your headliner. Same gray color. Take down the headliner backer board. Scrape the foam off then use foam fast spray contact cement on both the foam and the backer board and the foam. Let it dry for a few minutes then start at one end and smooth it together. Be careful of wrinkles. You can not pull it off to smooth out wrinkles. It once and done. Made a lot of side money for customers when I had my shop. The mastery is cheap. Good luck.

OMG! You two reminded me of my wife and me when we were first married; it makes me cry. Ellen already knew how to do quite a bit, but what she didn't know she wanted to learn. My dad made sure his kids could do anything from rebuilding cars and computers to building a house from the ground up; there was nothing that my parents couldn't teach us, and I could never thank them enough. Keep learning. My wife liked to learn by doing; she’d ask about everything. About a year before she died, I told her I needed a headlight for a car we bought; the light was at a junkyard by the pharmacy where she worked. I asked if she could have them take off the light for her, but no, she went out to the junkyard after work in her work clothes, asked some guys if she could borrow a few of their tools, crawled up under the hood, and removed both lights. One of the guys told her he was jealous because his wife would never do anything like that. I miss her so much it hurts to breathe. We were married for 27 years together for 30 years; she was the best. Hold on to each other; tomorrows are never promised. Stay safe, and God bless, Christopher
