Great video and breakdown of the new bike without using too many cliche bike industry buzzwords. Would've liked to hear any negatives or downsides to the new bike but I know you're in a tough spot there ;). Disappointed you've gone to the 29" dark side but really appreciated you acknowledging how it quelled your suspicions and doubts.
Great channel. Been watching now a few months and just bought a YT Capra MX. I felt exactly like you about going from 27.5 to 29, so I went with the mullet set up. I am here in Mission Viejo and love all your trail reviews!! Can't wait to wheel this new YT.
When i started watching your channel, i was on a 27.5 hard tail from Costco 😅and a Giant Stance 27.5 entree level full suspension. Now i have a 29r hardtail SC Chameleon and Trance X 29r. 29rs are definitely playful and i find myself sitting comfortably in it. Beautiful bike Tony 😁🤙 can't wait for your next YT.
Can't fault my 19 capra ride it every week and love it, best looking bike and suspension has good as a £10'000 bike, all for €3000. Goes as good uphill as downhill, fantastic!

I went from a 27.5 to a YT Decoy mullet and it’s amazing what you can get out of that set up , really makes a huge difference from the 27.5 or a 29 With the mullet you get the best of both, I think you can actually turn your 29 into a mullet it’s definitely worth to try. Ride on !
If it's an Izzo, you are going to love it. Super capable, fast and downright fun as hell. Izzo is perfect for most of SoCal riding. It is especially fun at Skypark.
@7:14 When took my 2018 Jeffsy that I bought from this one dude for a first ride, I bottomed out my fork on that section and OTB'd. I banged up my thigh pretty bad. I was so mad because I can clean T&A no problem and this fall took me by surprise. When I got home I checked the psi on my front fork and turned out to be 50 psi less to my liking. Check your suspension before your first ride....lesson learned hahaha. Keep your vids coming!
That was a very interesting comparison between 27.5 and 29er! I went straight from 24in wheels as a kid to 29ers so I've never been able to compare the two, but with the ability to carry more speed while still being playful it sounds like 29ers are the way to go for most people. Can't wait for your next series!
Tony Great Vid. I ride the Trek remedy same M/L so awesome to hear about the 29ers. It’s soooo tough to decide. I think best is have one of each. What really stuck out for me was. No big difference in uphill pedals and most importantly you can just roll over the rough and pick and choose your features to play. Cause no doubt on out 27.5’s while the have great suspension always have to find “the line”. Can’t wait to see more vids on the YT!!!! 💪💥💯
My lbs told me 27.5 is better for short or punchy climbs, but longer or techy climbs 29er is better. Only exception being 27.5x3.0 or larger on techy climbs those can match a 29er on those. I kind of believe it. My ht has 27.5x3.0 tires current and my gravel bike(which I treat as a rigid xc) has 29x2.1 tires on there. Both have WTB rangers on the currently(I found out last month the 29x2.25 measures out 2.1 so I just put them on 3 weeks ago on my bike). Weight isn't too far of either, but longer climbs I kind of like gravel bike. The 29er lets me keep a more steady pace.
Loving life! I didn’t realise you were on 27.5, I’ve been on a 29 since 2015 and I’d only swap if I could have two bikes to mix and match. Tried a Bronson last year but felt like I was getting beat up. You’re going to have fun! 😈
Another Sweet video! And I know exactly what you’re talking about when you were explaining the riding position because I have 19’ Capra AL Comp and I bought it as a 29r but I had the opportunity to buy a 27.5 carbon wheel set and I went for it and the bike felt totally different to me I honestly like it better as a 29r but then I went and did a mullet set up for shits and giggles and i tried Hawk trail at Santiago for the first time and it shredded! I just love how versatile the Capra is.

Awesome vid as usual! Glad to hear your thoughts on the 29er, trying to decide on that now. I’m 5’-6” and I’d prefer the way a 29er will roll, but feel like 27.5 will feel more proportional.
Love the way YT bikes ride, that super-progressive bottomless feeling where you can just throw them off / at stuff and they just love it. Could probably not go back to a more linear suspension design now I'm so used to it.
Guessing the second bike is a YT Izzo. That will be a very interesting comparison. Both are 29ers, but the Izzo is a short travel trail bike that is also crazy light. I have no doubt the Izzo will be an incredible climber and should do well descending normal trails. The Capra is known to be a blast when ridden at full gas, not so much for picking its way through slow tech, but that is enduro bikes in general.
Do you keep the geometry in the high or low setting? I keep it in the high setting and that really seems to help with climbing and xc oriented trails. When I'm riding downhill, drops, jumps I have the seat down anyways so I always have it in the high setting. The Capra is so confidence inspiring.
You said the new bike is a size large? How tall are you? I'm 5'9" and struggle with bike sizing. Another great video. I still can't decide 27" or 29" still ride both
At 5”8 I have the same issue. I just look at seat tube length now and wheelbase and reach and decide on that. we’re in the height bracket where we can choose if we want something stable Vs. playful. Not sure about the Capra geo but I would say anything under 1200 mm wheelbase will be more twitchy at speed but easier to chuck about on jumps and things. Bikes just get more and more stable further over 1200 you go. Personally I prefer a more playful ride but tony said it was playful enough in the vid so you’ve got a hard decision to make lol. I ride a medium stumpy and it’s super short at 1169mm wheelbase and 425 reach which I love, except when it gets fast and rough and then it scares the life out of me! I would have bought the large (1201 mm wheelbase) except it was a 455 seat tube vs 410 on the medium and I’ve only got a 29” inside leg so didn’t fancy losing 4.5cm of standover. I think anything with 1200 plus wheelbase and 440 ish reach will be stable enough for the type of riding we want to do, the further over that you go the more stable it will be. Hope that makes sense.
Love your channel, man! The whole time I watched this I was wondering what line you were gonna take on TNA where you have the 3 options. Do you prefer the rock roll all the way on the right? Have you tried the middle line or the drop on the left? Ive found those other line options make that section more fluid, in my opinion. Next question is: when are you gonna take the Capra down Art School? I’ve been looking at that bike for some time now, but have been shy to pull the trigger because I’m concerned about the climbs.. but it sounds like that’s not a worry after this video! Hopefully I’ll run into you one of these days.
Thanks! I usually take the far right one on regular rides because it's easier to line up. The roller and drop are a bit more tricky. As for Art School - can't feature unsanctioned trails on the channel. 😉

Hey man just wanted your thoughts I’m 5’8 and deciding between a M or L going to buy a Capra but from what I’ve read I can either go Medium or L … i wear 36/30 pants and 205lbs ,, naturally a short but stalkier guy and used to riding 450 Motox bikes … just wanna be comfortable ., but not feel awkward lol. Hopefully you have better luck with spokes since it seemed like you broke spokes on your Trek like they were going out of style, keep up the good work!
Tony, how do you feel about the sizing? I know you came from a ML and not youre riding a L. Can you tell us about it? considering getting a YT but not sure about the sizing. Thanks
I love switching between them. I rode nothing but demo bikes in 2018, so in 2019, when I got back on my 26, it felt like a BMX bike. Every wheel size has something different to offer.
I almost cried when I heard the bike fall over. It's gonna get scratched eventually. I wish my bike's first scratches were from it falling over on It's own instead of me going OTB.
YT BF sales means maybe a Capra elite for me? I see your on a Large. I'm wondering if to go Medium or Large, I'm 5ft 9 With 30inch inseam. What height and inseam are you and hows the Large fit your size ?
@@TheOutsiderMTB Ah ok, well thats good news. Whats your inside leg/inseam measurement if you don't mind me asking so can compare to mine. So, the Large Frame doesnt feel to big or the reach at 460mm feels ok for you ? This bike will pretty much be my Truly first bike that will get ridden/used unlike my first Pivot I bought and then had to sell a few months later which I only managed to ride once so I didnt actually get a true feel for the size/fitment. That was a Medium with 440mm reach. I had the dropper on that at 110mm based on what I was told what my correct leg position should be when sat upright on the bike and hands on the bars. But I'm totally jumping in with both feet into something that will be completely new to me and Hopefully add abit of fun and better fitness to my 50yr old mind and body ;)
@@IMac8939 Reach feels pretty good so far. Not sure about my inseam. You might be able to get away with a medium but it could seem a bit small in the cockpit for a 29 model.
@@TheOutsiderMTB I've Jumped and ordered Elite in a Large. Thinking if 460mm reach feels to long I can buy another Renthal stem in either a 30 or 40mm. Oh abit of useless info but when comparing race pro vs elite I noticed the Elite runs 51mm fork Rake/Offset , and Yet the Capra 29er Race Pro runs a 44mm Rake fork????. Also I am trying to figureout where the extra 1.3kg on the Elite comes from. Really only the forks that are different on it. Maybe the goldish paint has real gold bits in it. lol
@@IMac8939 Nice! haha the Elite 38 fork is a bit stiffer and it also has the new X2 Factory shock. These do not come stock on the Pro Race. You're going to love it.
Dude I loved you in the movie “the secret”😉if you haven’t seen it....it’s a total chick flick (watch it with the wife) but the dude reminded me of you😄 So on the subject of 29” vs 27.5”....I just had a friends bike while my bike was in the shop, it was a short travel Trek but had 29” wheels. Now my personal bike feels weird to me😑I hope it’s just going from one to the other and I get over it, but 29” are probably better 🥴
seems a little squishy on the ups but that comes into play on the downs, it is what is, hard to have the best of all worlds. They need to start putting live valve on enduro bikes.
