As a creative person, I 110% get you. It can make pretty things for sure, but is it useful? What is the purpose? I actually had the same issue with my 3D printer. But I learned that, these machines are just more tools that can help us channel our creativity in many ways. It is not about the machine, it is about us, about our creativity, and about being human ^^ Great video, as the others!! Goog job :)

Where a lazer really shines is in schools. When i was then 13 years old, i used to make things with it in school. It is very easy to design simple things (just draw lines), very safe to use (unlike a table saw or something) and fast so it can make things within one hour (unlike 3d printers). Did i make groundbreaking things? Not really but learned to design within a machines limitations and hey a plasmacutter or waterjet is not far off. Keep in mind it's the combination of tools that make extraordinary things. One thing you could use it for is engraving points where to drill, cut, ... keeps de measuring errors away.

I used to manage an engraving shop that acquired a laser engraver that we mainly used to make name tags. It soon became obvious that we were underutilizing its capabilities so I began to experiment with it so It seems to me that you are on the right path. One of the most beautiful uses that I found was engraving on glass. We used Corel Draw to create the graphics so that we could use the layers feature which allowed us to create graphics of multiple laser settings for intricate designs. We found PET plastics to be one of the best materials to work with. I'm sure that you will enjoy your laser, I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

People say the same about 3D printers, but it's so much more than that. It's a tool to enable you to make things. That is part of a bigger process. Also, I'd suggest making a filament drybox if you don't have one already, look for the RepKord Repbox. It's possible to laser cut from sheet acrylic!

I have the same problem. Too many lasers and no idea what to do with them. But one advice. Make sure to put anti freeze in the water and make sure not to run the laser when it's too cold or the glas tube will burst. I guess it gets cold I Sweden pretty soon.

After getting a laser cutter, I found beauty in how many 3D problems can be solved using 2D designs. And it's faster (both design and creation) than 3D printing. Omitting the glue-up drying :D

I think many makers could think of plenty of uses for these. Like currently, my hammer is a 3d printer, and there are many mostly flat parts for various parts of projects that could be made faster with a laser. Im adding a small carvera air to my list of hammers but I still could see uses for these things. I think its more about having tools available when an idea strikes and knowing you can make it, more than trying to come up with an idea for a tool.

I dont know if you edit your own videos but the production quality is gorgeous. I can sort of tell that you are out in a barn with old boards and rusty chains, but the lighting and maybe your lenses and post processing just make everything look incredible. When I take pictures in my shed it will never make people wish they worked there while listening to lo-fi and sipping coffee. Lol

I think it is a tool one needs to learn. And I am guessing that the use of it goes from structural to decorative. I don't know if this model can engrave metal. But a finely engraved knife sounds cool. An engraved leather apron doesn't sound bad. Things like art pieces coyld be easier to build. I wouldn't mind engraved broom handles or screwdriver handles. If it can cut metal then possibly cutting replacement pieces for machinery would be neat.

I'd not knock the boxes and eva foam cutting myself - loads of times I've ended up having to make a huge mess manually cutting storage and packaging material, or the time I've spent at my table saw to make a box that doesn't need to be pretty for a workshop tool (though most of my custom fitted bits are modified steel stuff or cardboard). And if you ever want to ship your own products...

I love your videos and explorations in creativity! Lasers are pretty awesome, I have used mine for years in a very niche space of cutting/engraving papers for very bespoke playing card boxes and associated art. I can get details that would be impossible to do any other way, and elevate the craft above what you can do with hand work, printing or embossing. It's also a fun creative challenge, working with such a delicate and thin material.

I struggle to build anything that isn't useful. It's why I love woodworking. A bench can be beautiful, or ugly, but it's still going to work as a bench. // Some ideas: Why not make your own folding rulers instead of just engraving them? Look at Denis' channel (hooked on wood) and see all the crazy stuff he does with acrylic + his CO2 laser. Use it to cut colored glass and make stained glass windows. You can do the same with wood and make some amazing marquetry. The first project I did with my laser was engraving D&D rules into panels that could slide into a Game Master screen for my son. Sure, kinda simple for me, but he uses it all time.

I don't own a laser but I do a lot of CNC (which I suspect you'd love). I think that it's a mistake to go looking for stuff to make because unless you really are a nihilist who things putting Live Laugh Love on cheese boards is a useful contribution to society, the real value of these machines is that you can semi-spontaneously craft things that you actually do need. My 3D printer gets most of its use running prototypes of the enclosure that I intend to mill out of wood on the CNC. I frequently need jigs which I can use to hold shapes securely in 3D space on my CNC so that I can go back over jobs that need another 0.2mm taken off a particular edge. The key is to think of these tools as ways to rapidly solve other types of problems. For example, I have been tempted to use a laser to engrave labels on the enclosure of the product I'm designing, because it turns out that 0.1mm V-carve bits are a bit hit and miss. It's a juggling act. But yeah, powerful tool, just avoid looking for stuff to justify it. That stuff is basically guaranteed to be lame.

hi! cool laser you got there... for leather precut stitches use just 1 dimensional holes, more like just line cuts if possible. but depends how much material laser beam remove by itself. Goal is to remove as little material in precut sticthes as posible for longevity of the stitch.

Aren't regular leather punches used traditionally? If it was just the needle it would be the same as a 1D hole but leather punches have a radius. I'm just curious.
@homer92234
@homer92234 2 дня назад
@@SquintyGears there are 2 types the ones that removes circles of material and then the proper ones which just make short lets say 2mm line cut. Type1 is ok and it has its use but for examble when lacing but for regular stitching using thread proper way is to use Type2 tool... Its not my wisdom I was told by a pro leathermaker when I dipped my own toes into this craft. The idea of the prongs is more like marking the holes and then going in with diamond profile awl...

The answer is nothing you left what little brain power you had at the checkout. On the other hand you have people like ( the above ) that go into overdrive and one thought goes into another and another and so on.
