I was going to mention the empty space for potential storage in the quiver, but you already covered it. It's like you looked into my brain and scratched that itch, so satisfying. I do think that you should have placed some dowels at the corners between the wooden slabs for more secure stability though, otherwise it looks amazing.

I know I'm not a member, but could you try building a collapsible travoy/hiking trailer to match your backpack tent? The trailer could double into a viking style cot or chair and the wheel or wheels could double as little tables or a shield. You could use the travoy like a mono-walker to haul your kitchen cooler trunk, and they all would look great with the Staff of the Wanderer. You could call it the Wagon of the Wanderer or something like that!
Bravo! Well done, good sir. A 1/16 inch sheet of kydex (they make holsters and knife sheaths from it. It's less than $20 for a 12"x24"square) sandwiched between the two sheets of leather that clip your arrows into place at the top, will keep those leather edges from wearing and getting loose. Just glue the kydex between them and hole punch and cut it right along with the leather. Again, great build.
It looks like you might be able to increase the number of arrows storable by layering them rather than having the hollow there. Perhaps having a different fletching for the internal row so you know which ones you're grabbing. It might also be possible in some LARPs to have something special for one type of arrow there that might have benefits.
If you staggered the height of the pads where they sit on the bottom you could theoretically fit one to two more arrows. Another great job done. Loved the hidden doors
I've been larping off an on for about 13 years now. This is the most beautiful piece of larp gear I have ever seen that solves an age old problem. You and Maddie are incredible!
500 years ago the Japanese solved this problem with the 'Kari Ebira'. A box with dividers for the heads of the arrows goes on a belt/waist sash, there is an open frame coming up from the box with some 'X' laces and a cord loop tied to it. The arrows go through the cord loop, point down into the box (you can sort 'special' arrow heads like AP, chisel, forked etc using the dividers). The arrows are NOT drawn over the shoulder (Hollywood, possibly Eastern Woodlands Indians), instead the string hand goes around the back, picks out the correct arrow near the point, lifts it up out of the box and then draws it down, the fletching passes through the cord loop and the arrow is transferred to the bow hand and slid forwards by the string hand until it can be nocked and readied - all without alerting the potential target.
Use a three-way harness to keep it from swinging more. You already have the additional D-ring, just make an clip point in the middle of your shoulder strap and add a strap between them that can be tightened up. No more swinging!
I think what I've learned in the last few years is that anything that I would think needs to be made from plastic, can usually be made from leather, wood, or horn. The fact that you can make clips out of a sheet of leather is fantastic.
First of all: I love pretty much everything you do, great work, thanks for the inspiration and entertainment! I do have some ideas for this quiver though. First, did you test whether the knots from the pocket flaps on the back get uncomfortable? They really look like they might poke your back. some flat configuration, or possibly leaving it open and let your back hold it closed might be more comfy. Secondly, while 7 is certainly more than 5, the difference isnt exactly massive. Since the main issue seems to be the big arrow heads, a slight difference in height would allow for a second set of arrows to sit in the quiver, basically doubling the amount you can carry with almost no extra material or size needed. Kind of similar to how fireworks rockets tend to be packaged.
With a little spread of the arrows(say five on the 'top' row, I can envision a two row quiver holding 10/11 arrows, using a slot for the shaft in the top row. I can see (in my mind's eye anyway) a two level quiver holding 11 arrows (6 bottom layer and 5 on the top). you need more room for the bottoms of the arrows than the top. You would need a slightly larger top half circle but you bottom one would need be marginally larger. If you had used a straight backing board inside the hollow section, you could have proper opening and closing door on the storage part. I'd put extra heads and glue for the arrows that lose them, your 'Fletcher's kit' in essence.
The problem with this design is you won't be able to grab just any arrow. If you don't grab the top arrows before the bottom ones then those large heads will get in the way and give you problems when you try to draw the lower arrow.
You've done a lot of Archery stuff though you still need to do some good archers gloves/forearm brace and a Hip quiver (for larp arrows particularly) Just started watching your vids, and absolutely loving them, can't wait till you start listing patterns so I can use them as starting points (then begin Moding them to my own taste/needs)
Please yes on the arm guard. Idk much about Larp archery, but if there’s even a fraction of the force behind the loosing of the arrow, you really want that. I do real archery with a recurve bow & even when wearing an arm guard it is not fun if you hit your arm with the string.
I've learned that the sling packs like this can jump around horribly when running around. Consider a quick-release strap from the off-side lower strap mount to connect to the main strap. This will stabilize the pack. Look at the way Legolas has his knives over his shoulder in the movies. The QR would let you reload the quiver without taking forever to get out of it.
I had to abandon my family during 'day after' Thanksgiving dinner because I saw your new video drop. They were mad, I but briefly explained, "SKILL TREE!" and disappeared into my cave. And by 'explained' I meant 'screamed insanely'... Any way, I like those 'instant inspirations' you have like: '"I liked how the upholstery tacks looked so much, I put them all along the bottom..." Because, when you tapped the first two in, I said to myself, "Those would look cool along the bottom" - only to be followed by you saying the exact same thing. Great minds... However, when you made the back storage flaps, I said, "I can hide my booze in there!" Which you didn't say (but i think you wanted too)... So we were different there... (*wink*) Great video - I don't happen to need a quiver right now, but I really like the way you plan things out. Idea - prototype - finished product - inspirational additions... You come up with some creative (and useful) ideas how to do stuff. Keep doing that thing there..

That quilted leather tooling technique is so easy to do, yet looks *SO GOOD* ... and you have such a wide reach (congrats on the channel growth, btw), I foresee thousands of quilted leather projects popping up around the world in the next few weeks to months!
I got a 10 arrow quiver specifically designed for my wide heads, but they're head-up for safety. Plus head down would be hard to design around. Super interesting open design though! If it moves a bit much; could go for a 3-point sling.
remember that 1999 movie the wild wild west. the little bellows shoe into the basically an air dermal thing. would be pretty neat to see if you can make it and see if you can get it to work lol. maybe you can even add too it. not just a cutter but a drill also. its like a little air compressor but uses your weight your leg strength to power the air tools there is a few neat little things in that movie.
When you sealed that hollow space with the leather I was like "no, wait, stop - It has so much potential!" but I was glad to see you add the openings after the fact to utilise the full volume. Very nice. I was thinking perhaps a rotating cylinder with a set of springs that can be pushed inwards to hold the arrows. Would sacrifice the interior storage, but could get more arrows into the quiver. I'd estimate 10, 2 per spring. Not sure if the draw motion would be as clean as yours though, very traditional. My concept would require you to tilt the arrow diagonally to match a misaligned cut out... Probably cause some practicality problems in reality.

Gotta say I don't understand much of the LARP side of the quiver and I'm sure it works well but I too appreciate thing that can be multi-purpose so for that alone I say well done. I'd say the challenge was met well
The Wiener Schnitzel is actually from Austria, that little country below Germany. They come from the city of Vienna. (Or Wien) I LOVED how this end result looks! And the "reload" time is super incredible. While I do like the original quiver more aesthetically, I can't argue the functionality of this beauty!
That quiver turned out looking pretty cool. I particularly like that quilted pattern. I'd be interested in seeing you do more with that pattern and maybe even weaving strips of leather to form that pattern. It'll be more work, but would look really cool. Looking forward to your next project.
Something I thought of before seeing the quiver in action was to attach a belt to the baldric to hold the arrows in place when you grab them. This one doesn’t seem to need it, but your first quiver might benefit from it. That’s not to say one or both aren’t fantastic; they’re both most impressive.
Easy way to keep the quiver in place is to attach the front strap, the bit that goes around your chest, to your belt. It makes it so much more secure, doesnt add more weight and well within your skill set. As a former larper and archer who went on field with 30 arrows at a time, this thing is dope!
Perhaps to keep the piece that holds the arrow shafts from stretching, submerge the piece in melted wax until the bubbles stop coming out. This will harden the leather to the point of being like light armor, but it isn't going to stretch any time soon.
You can nearly double the capacity for arrows by storing them in zigzag formation (the tips at the bottom) and adding more spaces to click the arrows at the top. You'd have to sacrifice the bottom storage, but can keep the upper one
Would the heads get stuck on eachother? That's the issue I ran into. If I overlap them, O need to make sure I can grab the top layer first or else they get stuck.
I was thinking similarly, though I see no reason why you can't also easily add a second 'shelf' to have 3 to maybe 5 more arrows above the existing ones with the tips in a U shaped pouch/shelf - the existing arrow locations are drawn through that U shape which can overhang the tips of those existing arrows a fair bit without really being in the way of them getting drawn.
I got near the end and thought to myself "That's hollow! How did we not turn it into storage?!" And then immediately it was turned into storage WITH maniacal laughter!
I was thinking the whole time that it looks like a good base design for a larger, semi-portable mass arrow storage. Like, instead of a barrel of arrows or throwing them on the ground, make a round/larger version of this, and make it sit on the ground for stationary archers. Love the quiver design, love the colour and the quilted look, glad it functions exactly how you wanted it to
May I suggest, that you fasten a cord to the quiver just under the fletchings, firmly attached at one side and tied through a hole or ring at the other so as to be easily reached and untied quickly, as over time the slots for the arrows will widen slightly and your arrows may jolt loose and fall out as you move/run! Hope this helps, and once again damned fine job!!
In the SCA for combat archery, I use a larger recycled folding chair bag. It holds 75 arrows. Yes, our arrow heads are smaller. I can draw them at will and then do not move. I can get arrows down range as fast as possible in full contact combat. It sits properly. I stack the arrows in nicely and as the battle goes on and there are breaks I roll the bag lower and lower. I've never dropped any. When not needed the bag ties shut. Now I have the size and shape right I can make one that looks pretty using your techniques and level up there.
I haven’t watched the movies in a long time but this quiver gives me a “Hawkeye” vibe from the first avengers movie and I love it. Kinda blending fantasy and modern

As much as I generally favor the hip quiver, this thing is freaking sexy 😍 I think I would have used heavy shoe sole leather instead of wood, but that's just me. Speaking of larp equipment, I'd love to see you forge a set of medieval cutlery and make a leather case for them 😁
I love this quiver, and the multi functionality is great. I personally use a hip quiver and a back quiver with arrows up so I can carry 30+. But I play amtgard with arrows from gorg the blacksmith and have a back quiver made by a late friend that can hold around 18 with heads up. It also uses the other corner for a 3rd strap across the lower chest that increases the stability.
Great looking quiver. Could you have used the centre hollow area to hold a couple more arrows? When I used to target shoot I found pulling and replacing arrows into a back quiver awkward and much preferred a hip quiver. It did take some practice getting it out of the way when moving through a crowded area though.
I think a hip quiver will be a lot of fun to make. This one, the request was specifically to have it over the back so I tried my best to make that happen. Using the space for more arrows is actually a really good idea lol

The last time I did a LARP (small family thing I arranged for my younger brothers lmao) my quiver could never match how quickly I wanted to grab my arrows. If I didn't move really slow and carefully, it'd just run away from me, which I didn't realize until I was ambushed and had to do some quick combat (I prefer a "sniper-style" as my brother put it, which is why I never noticed). I'll definitely have to play around with this design in the future! Love the multifunctioning as always!
The initial cardboard design looks remarkably similar to an old quiver i had that mounted directly on this old compound bow i had. It was a cool concept but having the arrows on the bow was kind of clunky
@@SkillTree it just throws off the balance, plus with the arrows on the right side of the bow, you have to pull an arrow, and either feed it between the string and bow or go around the left side of the bow to knock it, which can be dangerous with broadheads. Overall i dont really understand the popularity of it other than when done you can keep your stuff all together nice and neat.
I strongly suggest adding a 3rd contact point to make the quiver more stable, it would also work on your older quiver. Ive used a larp quiver and the third contact point really made it sooo much better and more stable, no more fishing for arrows like Tantalus.
Looks epic. One question, would adding an additional 'storage' belt from the unused bottom clip around the waist to the used clip would affect anything other then holstering the arrows?
For added stability I would consider adding a waist strap or something to the second ring assembly at the bottom 🤔 probably best if you can open it on both sides, to easier pull the quiver around your torso when refilling
With that other buckle at the bottom, you can make another strap that comes up from the bottom corner and connects to the shoulder strap to really keep it from flopping around
I have a few ideas for this. for dubble the ammo just dubblestack the arrows. so the tips are in like this zig zag pattern Second, to maybe make it more secure if needet just attach a second "string" on the unused atatchment on the bottom and atach it in the middle of your chaest. And last but not least (this mey get in the way od the storrage compartment) include a backshieth for a short sword. maybe use Shed´s (from msahdiversity) design for back sword shieth so you have a backup meele meapon without having ani additional things on you that dangle around
That's a really clever idea for a quiver, personally I would probably cut out the center of the half rounds to make room for a couple more arrows rather than storage. That being said historically most archers wore their quiver at the waist so that they didn't have to deal with these issues.
it looks like it works really well for the LARP arrows.. could maybe add a secret compartment into the body of it as it looks like abit of wasted space. so a secret compartment would make sense for your rogue build somewhere to put your ill gotten gains...
Great design and it looks beautiful! From an engineering standpoint, I wonder how the notches at the top will hold up over time. Maybe it would have been wiser to just tack the leather piece with the notches down without glue, so you could replace it easier if it'll stretch.
Great video. Self-made, beautiful quivers are such a win for archery. I got heavily into olympic-style archery around of the time of the Lord of the Rings movies (yes, I am that old now) when I put together my own kit. I did not buy a quiver, as what I wanted did not exist. So I made it myself and put a nice, Elvish pattern on the front. I still have and use this quiver from time to time. Made of thick, black saddle leather.
This is amazing! I was surprised with how you approached the challenge but honestly you did an extraordinary job. Since you asked for other opinions, there isn't a whole lot that I would do differently now, seeing how well yours turned out, but in the beginning I probably would have used slots to place th arrows in instead of clips, and I may have kept the design more closed, giving a sleek finish. A couple questions about the competition-- is there an age limit or requirement? Do you submit photos of yourself wearing it, or just the costume? Are you required to use Burgschneider products only? Lovely idea! I think using that space was ace but if done during the build, opening from the top with soft leather gussets (there another good word) and a Sam Brown to close, cause they are cool too!
Just a random thought. Had you considered making something akin to a bandoleer to hold your arrows and fits on your back like back scabbards? Further more you have no need for the foam ends to be encased. You could make the half rounds you designed from silicone that would grip the arrow shafts until needed. The silicone would then reform ready for the next load out?

Clever, we frequently use side quivers….. at least personally, it’s easier to grab from where my hand naturally rests, and it takes less movement to get the same results. Not to mention more secure.

I wonder if you could expand this with a second "layer" roughly 2 inches higher or lower. Having 5-6 on one layer and another set just below means you'd have more arrows, but wouldn't necessarily take up that much space. This may also mean there could be a slightly more cylindrical design instead of the sort of conical shape, or maybe mixing one cylinder for the higher layer and the cone for the lower layer where they both share the top semi circle would work?
Even if you don’t want to use it as a quiver, it does make a nice display for your arrows. I can see that in a tent in the corner with some arrows loaded up bad ass display lol.
Could you do a historically based musket that was used during the revolutionary war but instead of using actual ammunition, maybe a jell ball but is air compressed instead of gunpowder. There is a good way of doing this, theoretically you could use the same tools that was used to reload the musket to push down the pump or piston that compressed the air inside a chamber and the trigger gets set when doing this. When pulling the trigger it opens a channel that leads to the gel ball to force it forwards.
I know this is a weird request but could you build a energy heater shield with arm straps ? Maybe a button in the handle that turns on the lighting effect. Bridgette from Overwatch is a good reference except she uses a center boss handle.
