I could watch you all day. Very enjoyable watching you tackle some of these machines. Sad how Hoover went downhill from the days that it really was the Hoover Company, North Canton, Ohio. I still have a Hoover Constellation made at the North Canton factory back in the 60s that had belonged to my mother and that was handed down to me. I always considered the Hoover Constellation a really cool vacuum, mainly because it floated on its exhaust air. It still runs today, in fact I used it today just for nostalgia's sake. Still love that machine. At one time it was state of the art. I live about 65 miles east of North Canton, Ohio and it makes me feel proud that I have a vacuum that still runs with the North Canton, Ohio name plate still attached to it. Anyway, another fun video for me to watch Matt. Keep up the good work. John in Ohio

Thanks, John! Those Constellations are absolute classics and are still a testament to how good Hoover was in its prime.

I don't blame you one bit for not doing anything other than the belt change if that is what they ordered.. A complete service job takes alot more time and is very indepth cleaning for the unit. I work on alot of bagless vacs for people at my home and I just keep a shop vac or an old electrolux canister to clear alot of clogs in the hoses and in some cases to even clean the filters just as a quick way out if they don't want to replace the filters. We use the bagged Wind Tunnels 6485900 at my work place and the only problem we have is with the lower hose assembly cracking and having to be replaced. This must be a common problem with these vacs as the lower hose is becoming harder and harder to find a replacement.

My mom destroyed our Bissell with carpet fresh when I was a kid lol not that it was much of a loss when the 50ft tube was collapsing at the point where it attached to the machine. Also I want to take a minute to dunk on bissels obsession with baby stick handles. We used to have a Bissell carpet shampooer and the machine weigh 50lbs but the handle was this tiny little stick you had to have a gorilla grip to push it around with. At least rug doctor has the decency to to give me an actual handle to grab.

Hahaha, very good story! I can't tell you how many vacuums I have thrown in the dumpster after their motor bearings implode from Carpet Fresh exposure. SO MANY.

Comment on proper brush setting greatly appreciated - a video tutorial on that with a suitable power brush (Sebo ?) would be very useful ! Seems TTI now owns a huge chunk of the vac market with their cheapo vacs. Is "Carpet Fresh" mainly baking soda? I tried that stuff on my carpet years ago and found none of my vacs (no German vacs then) could get it all out of the rug (have stayed away from dry cleaners ever since - I don't know if the SEBO dry rug cleaner has similar issues !).

There's a difference between your vacuum remover in a box and actual dry cleaning powder
@HouseOfVacuums
@HouseOfVacuums 2 года назад
Carpet Fresh is just the brand name of one of the baking soda based carpet powders... there are a few brand out there. That is what was popular when I started in the industry in the late 90s so to me they have all just been "Carpet Fresh". I really should make a video on all the reasons you shouldn't use anything with baking soda on your carpets... there are a multitude of reasons, wear on your vacuum just being one. Sebo Duo powder, Dyson Zorb, Capture, Host and all the other dry cleaning powders work off a completely different concept. While it looks like powder, it is actually like a very firm foam that is soaked in the reagent. So while you do need a good vacuum to get it all up, it won't make it through the filters and destroy your machine like baking soda. Baking soda as a powder is exponentially smaller in particle size and actually abrasive, unlike the dry cleaning powders. Good question!

Hi Matt great video. Question for u. I have a miele u1 cat and dog. It's great but it doesn't have a adjustable height nozzle. I also have two cats and get litter all over. I want a sebo Felix do u think in your opion that would be a great option for me. The miele picks up most but want alittle closer clean on the low pile rugs.
@HouseOfVacuums
@HouseOfVacuums 2 года назад
That's a tough one. The Miele's performance is going to be highly dependent on the kind of carpet you are using it on and how firm/dense it is since the brushroll is spring loaded. I'll say this... the Miele is a more powerful machine. BUT, that is only half the equation. I think the Felix with the stiff brushroll grooms better. I would buy from a location with a return policy or "try before you buy" to see if you notice a difference that justifies the cost. I think it is going to be super dependent on your flooring whether you see a difference between one high end machine vs another.

The Z looks like Rosey from the Jetsons. 😀 Do you have or can you do a video on proper carpet height adjustment? The auto on my S40p doesn't seem to work on our new thicker shagish carpet. It seems to stress the beater bar more than if I go to High or xtra Hi, but I wonder if that's too high. We bought the middle of the 2 piles from Dream Weaver.
@HouseOfVacuums
@HouseOfVacuums 2 года назад
It does look like Rosey! For the height adjustment, I don't currently have a video about it but I should probably make one. But to properly adjust your S40 for your current carpet turn the height adjustment to extra high, pull back the handle and turn on the machine. Now turn down the heigh adjustment until you hear the brushes audibly engage the carpet. That is your perfect height!

It’s bagless so it’s actually low capacity compared to an bagged windtunnel. Most of the clogs I see are in bagless vacuums too the air doesn’t flow as well as bagged.

On the subject of hose length and CFM: How much performance would be saved by making a short hose that goes straight from the nozzle to the canister's air inlet? Something like what Tacony did on the Carpet Pro CPU-1 and Panasonic did with their commercial vacuums? Would it even be noticeable?
@HouseOfVacuums
@HouseOfVacuums 2 года назад
Hi Marcello! There isn't a hard a fast rule about how much CFM you can save by shortening the hose a certain amount due to variable like hose width, taper, strech, etc. But I will say, shorter is always better. To your point, the old 8000 series Riccars with the short hose had a TON of power at the floor.

Miele Classic C1 Titan, to be exact. Mounted vertically with a custom hose, wired into a light switch below the bench. That poor thing has been so abused... but I keep genuine bags in it and it keeps on ticking!

cyclones also lose about 50% of your airflow not so much your suction but what cleans not suction it’s airflow that cleans that’s why bagless vacuums clog more often then bag vacuums

Yup, those complex air pathways slow the air down a LOT. Good point!
