Car guys who make a living from buying/selling/talking about/writing about/working on cars, being guided by a lifelong car dealer who has seen every trick in the book, and they don't spot that a notoriously rusty car bought from a Facebook marketplace driveway trader is riddled with rust? Seems legit.

@@060steve 3 years ago I bought Turtlewax Zip Wax 5ltr jug and it's only just half used. Cost then was £7 today it's £10. Snow foam is a gimmick. You still have to physically wash it with a sponge or mit. Also to have to unwind, plug in, connect water for the pressure washer each time is a faff. I can wash the whole car in 15mins with a bucket of warm water, a sponge, and a capful of Turtlewax Zip Wax mixed in.

You can't fail what you can't see I'm afraid.

MOT tests should have "testers notes" on the end as a new section. IF they've knowledge of certain cars like old Fords being rustboxes they can write it on there in an 'official manner' as a personal advisory to the owner but absolutely nothing to do with the Gov and Gov doesn't even see that section when the MOT is filed. Obvs this could be heavily abused but I'm a nobody with no idea how that sort of idea would work or if it'd even work at all.

@@MegaSockenschuss that's what I was thinking. A clean engine bay is a bad sign there's probably an oil leak or something, which I'm pretty sure I heard from another CarThrottle video

Well i mean when washing, you should always work bottom to top. Applying and removing foam is most effective when applied and removed working from bottom to top.

You call this RUST? Buy an E30! You will then see real RUST, when you can't lift the car from the ground, because the jacking points are long gone with the seals, so you lift it from the beam where the a-arms mount, and the beam cracks, then the car can't even move, because the A-arm is now not attached to anything :D That's the E30 I bought and am restoring.... Oh, and no floor in the trunk, no floor in the front too! Its a great start, because I can do everything from scratch, instead of fixing the original, like patching the sheet metal, and cutting and grinding, and wirewheel everything :D A fun project car!

The difference is more obvious the further gone the paint or the interior is. If your car is always clean there is a difference, but very minor

It really makes little to no difference. A good scrub is all it needs and a decent power washer

I used it almost monthly on a 20 year old car. There was a huge difference.

My car is from 2005. A decent deep clean is all I needed. Tried detailing and it improve things, but really didn't make enough difference to warrant the money

check out car cleaning guru, it's so satisfying, although the cars are usually pretty dirty.

@@TotoGeenen Any dust and debris in cleaning cloths/sponges, no matter how small, will cause scratches in the clear coat. Those scratches are more noticeable when the car is cleaned using circular motions as opposed to straight up and down motions

@@taz874 most of this rust is hidden: this can easily be cut off with grinder and welded back using sheet metal. It doesn't have to look pretty, because body panels and arch-liners cover your bodywork. I would say this could've been a great exercise for someone learning to do bodywork on a car. For rust repair most of the cost is labor, not materials: if you have enough willpower, time and equipment, it can be done easily. Speaking because I have done this kind of bodywork to 2 cars now for less than 100€ in parts. So I'm still waiting car throttle to find some rustbucket and try to weld it.
