When they finish, Send the cleaning over to Rebuild Rescue’s hangar so they can help clean all the bird remnants out of that 401! Maybe by OshKosh you two can have both your twins on display there???
@@deanu1707 might be completely shot but love the commitment from the guy at Rebuild Rescue. That’s turned into a bit of a soap opera but makes for some entertaining viewing.
As a former apprentice A&P - who moved to the rear of a small craft, and luckily had a guy walking by who grabbed the tail as it headed for the ground - you MIGHT want to consider tossing sand bags (or something heavy) where the engines were! You get a bunch of people in there cleaning up.... she might get tail heavy! :O
What DrFiero says! 👆 Then you don´t have to have the thing rocking back every time someone looks sideways at it. But you will still have the ability to tilt it when necessary.
Loving this build, coming along really great! I'm a structures guy, but I would be a little hesitant with that doubler repair. Should have filed a 1/64" - 1/32" gap to prevent chafing. Looks like 1 rivet is going directly into the cracked section. Should have rivets edge distanced and all corners radiused. If you had something to radius the lower doubler to the same lip contour that would add significant strength. I know this isn't an F-16 or anything, but definitely check back on that repair later and see how it's holding up, especially so close to that pulley!
My wife was sitting next to me while I was watching and says “this guy is hilarious with all the songs he busts out with”. Told her that’s why I’m always laughing when I watch your videos. Keep up the great work. Can’t wait to see the 310 at Sun and Fun!
What DrFiero said. We use sandbags double-wrapped in stitched burlap. Pop in a couple of grommets, you can also hang 'em from practically any point of the aircraft.
That kind of cracks can happen when the plane is parked outside and the wind is kicking the rudder around against it stops, might want to check those points too.
I do sheet metal on wide body Boeing’s and I enjoy you showing the repair in action, even though I would’ve just replaced that whole web and reattach everything with new stuff. But keep it up!
I’m sure I’m too late for you to see this but I recently “fixed” a 150 that had been down 14 years. If I had it to do over I’d totally torn it down and restored it. The “fixing” part lasted forever and cost me at least as much as a restoration. My first time. Curious if that crosses your mind. The 310 reminds me of this. Anyway, Godspeed
Greetings from the Czech Republic 😊, you have fans all over the world. I love this channel and you sense for humor. Keep it up! 👍 I'd love to help you 👨🔧.
Another day in the crazy life on Jimmy's world. What turn big part of my life . I can't live without Jimmy's crazy life. I love you Jimmy's . Big hug from ENFIELD TOWN NORTH OF LONDON. But I'm jus Brazilian guy. Lol
Looks like it's coming along good so far. Even at this video, it looks a lot cleaner than it did. The paint and exterior finish looks good as well. I like the idea of doing all that detailing, as that will help preserve the strength and integrity of all the structures. I would definitely like to see a full airworthiness certificate in a short few months!
Brilliant channel and I love that you are able to share your mechanical aviation madness and so much time with mini-you! I noted he had a book in his hand when you got back from one of your flying trips - I have twin sons who had their heads in books from the start, then they helped me build a Sling 4 here in the UK - we did a few things more than once! They are now studying Aerospace Engineering at Oxford and Cambridge whilst flying with their air squadrons - best of times. Tell him to keep it up!
I really enjoy the aircraft restoration. You seem to be witty, and a good solid person. I was ground support on P-3 propped anti sub aircraft at NAS Jacksonville. Went to A school for AE but could not understand binary numbers. Had to drop school and apprentice at my squadron. I understand and enjoy all of your videos.
LOL, the cleaning supplies scramble was Epic ! It won't be long and we'll hear a " Clear Prop " and Jimmy fading off into a sunset distance, listening to Frankie singing, " Come Fly with Me " , then saying, " Sun n Fun here I come "
Never commented before, these are stored up for all yr vids -That doesn't look safe -That's really dirty -Is that the way it's supposed to look? -Yikes! -That's a big 🐁 nest -That'll be expensive
Hi, I would like to suggest to sand the edges of the sheet metal repair. By sanding the edges and making them smooth, it will lower the risk of getting cracked again.
Jimmy, when the day comes that the 310 get back in the air you really should make it an event where your subscribers can come and be a part of it. I live in Lake county so you know I’d be there for sure!
I think the solution to any issues is the By-pass Line...and you'll need 40 weight ball bearings and Quaker State. :). Love your videos !!! Can't wait to see the 310 in the air !!!
I am loving your show. Nice to see real people do real stuff lol. Love the 310 I have allways wanted to get a pilots license but time is somthing I don’t have a lot of lol but I do fly Rc airplanes so it’s cool to see some of your planes in full scale that I have as a Rc plane. Keep up the good work
I personally take things apart to clean them. Infact when I owned a airplane the first thing I did was take it apart and clean it up before starting the annual inspection. Cleaning parts is usually easier than cleaning completely assembled vehicles.
Jimmy!!! I was at the Wellington Kansas airport and saw your next project! A Cessna 421 that hasn't flown in many years. Comes complete with bird poop on the prop and hail damage on the wings! Your kind of plane!.🤣😂😂
Instead of putting the engines back on couldn’t you have put ballast in the front cargo area (assuming there is one) or front of the interior? Also to make your life easier get some moving dolly’s. So next time you need to move the engines ( like you will need to for the Aztec) you put the dolly’s down, put your engine stands on top of them and will be able to roll the around easily. Harbor Freight carry’s them.
Just saw your Cameo appearance on Rebuild/Rescue. That was so awesome. I really like these two channels and how you two are trying to save pieces of aviation history. I love learning how airplanes work. Keep the videos coming.
Don't worry about it at this point. Don't put another big bunch of money in it until you feel good about the outcome, expense and results overall. You need to make money not break even not less.
i would strip the plane for proper inspection of metal.paint can hide corroded metal.once the metal is inspected and cleaned i would use a a good corrosion proof primer.prime interior as well as exterior when repainting.
Heck, I'd watch this show in Prime Time. 😊 Better than anything on the Big Networks. We got Comedy, we got Drama, we got Mystery, we got working on Airplanes, we got a dedicated and talented daredevil crew. It has it all. 😉
New subscriber. working on my A&P. Took my written exams at NAA in Clear Water. Just need to complete my O&P's. wish I lived closer would love to help out. Enjoy your channel. Loved the shout out to Rescue Rebuild
I'm no pro but I've spent many years working with sheet metal and automotive body work. And I hope I'm wrong but my spidey senses are telling me Dr Phil's frame repair isn't going to go there distance 😬 Keep an eye on it Jimmy 🤞
WHAT?!?!? ARBY'S!?!?!? Dude we would so get along! LOL Thats my stop EVERY trip back home to Auburndale when I get off in Polk City. An Arby Melt and a large Vanilla milkshake. YUP!
Hey, I just had a great idea. While you have the money to noise converters mounted on the plane, you could probably take the whirley things off easier, rather than while they are on the ground or something. That'll give you more view of those back to front mountings
Hello from Germany! The structure and the strength of the alusheet is bad,the vibrations and the draw from the pulley are to hight. Make a complete new plate! Keep on working,Mike!
Save the props till she almost ready to run. Zero chance of hanger rash on the prop if it's in a shipping box. Leaving the engines out and using weights will make cleaning and working on the engines a lot easier.
Let's hope there are not any other hidden/undetected cracks in the structure of that plane. Loosing rudder control mid flight would be bad, but there are even worse things possible.
The 310 is going to be a hot looking ship, what a lovely design, looks sturdy and well built, love that nose on her. Any chance of getting that PT17 Steerman up in the air?. Would love to see you save some WWII aircraft. Thanks for the vids, loving these almost daily releases, addicted. Cheers from the UK
Good thing you took it apart because I cannot imagine trying to fly it with it being full of mouse poop and peed on insulation. Its goinng to be good in the end. Its just must hell getting there. And very exspensive. It going to take a lot of super chats to get there and tons of elbow grease. Its a beautiful plane.
That tail crack looks like it could be fatigue due to repeated rudder stress? Maybe it's worth checking out the other bulkheads that support the control surface pulleys.
Got my shirt!!!! Real nice. Thank you for saving this beautiful aircraft Jimmy. I always wanted a 310. No longer can get my medical, but my son is a pilot and I am trying to talk him in to getting one. Will you keep this when you are finished? Maybe take it on a North American tour? Always got a room for you in Ohio!
Jimmies world .... !!! there are only 5 or 6 I always jones to see drop ... this is definitely one of them .... working on private pilots license and this really has a motivational aspect to it ... thank you !!
I remember helping my father drop the engine out of a 1968 Cardinal 177 when I was younger for rebuild… Instead of jacking up the tail he just loaded the engine cowling full of bricks… I told him I felt a little bit rocky about the engine the way that thing was sitting… He didn’t think it was funny
I really enjoy your posts and have a good laugh each time I watch them and makes the day a bit better. Good luck getting everything together and cleaned up and can't wait to watch the next episode on this 👍👍
Engines seem like an awfully complicated counterweight. I watched that and thought to myself "if you just need ballast, what's wrong with a couple of 80 pound bags of quikrete?"
Ha Jimmy you are the best kind of people What you did for the young man with the twin engine trying to get it started was assume You have a great day brother God bless Just saying
Been there done that with the cleaning thing in inclement weather. I was in a P-3 Squadron for two years in the military. Scrubbing those things in 40 degrees and body was numb from the cold.
Hi Jimmy. I'd put the props after cleaning the bird. I mean, they're new or rebuild or whatever aren't they. I'd take those apart, clean and then assemble the "new ones".
You need the engines on the plane because if anyone goes inside the plane to clean it will come crashing down on the tail section. So you need the weight on the wings or you need the tail end to be supported somehow.
I just wanted to say thanks for flying my countries flag with the others. The red dragon is the flag of Cymru/Wales as a semi autonomous colony of England we often are ignored. But independence is on the cards for us along with Scotland. I love your videos. They explain so many mysteries of flight that elude us mere ground fixed mortals!
Hi Mr. Jenkins. I was flashed when I reed your coment, because there are a lot of welsh descendent people living in my country; exactly in the province of Chubut. They are very proud of their ancesters and even preserve the welsh culture and lenguage. I have a few friends of them myself. Greetings from NE Patagonia, Argentina.
