Yes, you can CAN sell a screenplay directly through social media. And you WILL. I do it all the time myself and I LOVE when others also get empowered to directly dance in the marketplace themselves. Really awesome!
I use LinkedIn to network all the time. I've found my own financing, it's finding a producer, even the initial PM or LP one, that has always been the problem, even with my access to Canadian tax credits.
Great video @scriptfella! It would be awesome to see a follow-up video to see what happened next with 'Broonies' script duo. I never thought of LinkedIn as a place to promote my scripts
I have a question.. Why do directors/folm makers rely so much on producers? What is it that producers can do significantly more than filmakers themselves? Is it access to finance, distribution etc. ? Thanks in advance.
It's a bit like asking "Why do charismatic extroverts get want they want more often than shy introverts?" Producers are filmmakers, just ones who specialise in the connecting, financing and managing of a production. If you'd like to go ahead and do that for your own production - do. Many famous film-makers started out producing their own work because they didn't have the contacts and resources to get any-one else to do it for them. That being said, a great producer requires traits that not every film-maker has. They need to be extroverted, persuasive and a creative problem solver. If you're an introverted writer who isn't confident in their work (as many great writers are), you might have a hard time with the many people-oriented tasks of the job. A producer with all the right traits and the focus to isn't so easy to come by, so when you find one - bring your A game to your pitch.
Great video man. I finished my 3rd animated screenplay each have 160 page. I am trying to sell them to an agent . Is there anyway we can work together.
