Can Wynn's diesel injector cleaner do better with higher concentration (1.6HDi)

Wynn's cleaned the injectors in my 1.6HDi first time, but I put 37L of diesel fuel. This time I am doing a double dose of 20L of diesel. Will it work better?
This is a test of the Wynn's fuel system/injector cleaner in a turbo diesel 1.6HDi Peugeot Partner (2007; 90bhp; 66kW; 9HXC engine; ~106,000 miles or ~171,000 km), same as a Citroen Berlingo.
The tests comprises reading 3 times the leak-off of the injectors in the Peugeot Partner when the fuel tank was nearly empty before pouring the Wynn's diesel injector cleaner. The car was also warmed, so not to affect the readings. These 3 tests for each injector were done in a quick succession. Overall it takes me ~1.5h to do the 3 measurements for the 4 injectors. The Wynn's diesel injector cleaner was then added to the nearly empty fuel tank and filled with normal diesel (Texaco). I drove 240 miles with the Wynn's diesel injector cleaner, mainly shorter journeys (~70%) but also some motorway/highway as well (~30%) for about 2 months, so lots of stops and goes and sometimes the car stood not drive for a few days (due to the pandemic). The fuel tank was again nearly empty and I did the same 3 measurements of the fuel returned by the injectors. The idea is that if an injector is blocked it will return a lot of fuel back as compared to a normal (non-blocked) injector. Fuel is under pressure and a blocked injector will result in slightly more fuel returning than going through the injector. It is not entirely scientific method and it is a bit crude and there could be a lot of variability. Nevertheless, it is fairly OK and I can easily perform it.
The video also shows how to perform a leak-off test or measure the return flow of the diesel from the injectors. Overall, one has to look for the variance between the injectors rather than some arbitrary constant return flow. There are some websites where it is stipulated that if the injectors are good if they return less than 25ml per min. I am not too sure about these values. After the test all of my injectors return less than 25ml per min. So, there might be some merit in this less than 25ml per min at idle.
This time around with 20L of diesel on top of the Wynn's diesel injector cleaner, it did not clean the injectors at all. It is possible that I have reached the maximum these injectors can be cleaned with chemicals.

Very good video & detailed info. I took my injectors out and manually cleaned them as I had timing belt/broken tappet issues at the time. My 1.6 hdi had covered 69,000 miles and two of the injectors were only squirting fuel of of two holes on each nozzle. I soaked them in brake cleaner but to no avail, so put them in an ultrasonic bath which did work.

I had a really bad white smoke on cold start up and it used to judder the van aswell and I knew it was a blocked injector! So I used the stp diesel injector cleaner version as I had some left over at work it says on the bottle 200ml to a full tank of diesel But I put 3 bottles of the stp version in to 30pound of diesel and within 3days it got rid of the juddering on cold start up! And hardly any white smoke! Thanks alot for this video So from now on I will be putting that in my van every 3000miles

Well done for going into such a details. I been doing taxi in London and done around 60,000 miles a year . I had always 1.6 diesel engines , such Ford Focus 2014 estate ,Mondeo mk4 2013 ,and Astra J 2015 1.6 diesel 136bhp and chain driven. I tried all the diesel and injectors cleaners like : Liqui momy, Wynns ,STP , Redex, Forte, but they all sort of worked a bit . And l did change the oil EVERY 5000 MILES ... Nearly every month. Just oil and oil filter ,the rest every 6 months . But the best treatment that really really worked for me , on the miles that done it's the one called : Archoil AR6900-D Max Advanced Diesel Fuel Synthesis . This stuff it's magical, my engine it's extremely quiet in the very cold morning and loads more power and revs less than 2000 rpm , on cruise control on the 6 gear doing 70 mph.. I am not an expert just giving my opinion what worked for me ...

When using an injector cleaner it also dislodges the dirt from an old fuel filter into the injectors. So always change the fuel filter after an injector treatment

One thing worth mentioning would have to tell us how recently the fuel filter was changed. Some diesel engines have reduced fuel flow with clogged fuel filter that doesn't prevent engine from running but reduces max performance. And obviously a clogged fuel filter might affect this measurement, too, especially if the fuel has different temperature during the tests.
@moremolecules
@moremolecules 24 дня назад
The fuel filter was relatively recently changed before that test, it has not been changed for the duration of the test. The fuel from the filter goes to the high pressure pump, so this does not restrict or affect the test. It is the return (excess) fuel that comes back from the injectors.
@MikkoRantalainen
@MikkoRantalainen 24 дня назад
@@moremolecules If the filter was relatively new, then you don't have problems. I'm asking because it's not unhead of that the filter is so clogged that the high pressure pump is failing to get enough fuel to the input pipe and as a result, fuel delivery is starved. If you keep adding additives without replacing the fuel filter, the results may be affected by the filter if it's the new the bottleneck of the whole system. One repair shop also claimed that some fuel filters by low quality 3rd parties limit the fuel flow even as new compared to OEM quality parts. I don't know if it was just marketing talk in reality.

I've been trying to figure out something specific with the HDI/TDCI engines. Can't seem to find any info though, haven't been able to find anything on your channel about it either... So we both know how dirty the 1.6 HDI gets, question is; how can we clean the valves that the intake feeds? I've seen a few vids with other cars, whereby there is a larger hole, about the size of a custard cream/bourbon biscuit, but the HDI ones seem as big as maybe a £2 coin. The most popular method I see is a walnut clean. Sadly I don't have a drive or a compressor, only a high volume air gun. I have seen people spray, brush with a gentle bristle brush and then vacuum out the crud, so that's probably my option, but I wanted to see if there are any resources to potentially help. Would be good if you could perhaps do a video on cleaning the valves from the engine, as I reckon they'd be very grimy!

I always used to run petrol cars but the last 15 years I’ve be a convert to the Diesel engine . Firstly they don’t suffer that much with electrical brake downs and built to withstand many miles. Anyone considering a diesel car replace filters and oil regular like every 10k and don’t buy shit oil, buy long life .Yes it’s slightly more but how much is it to replace a Diesel engine.! Use diesel additives and drive hard this cleans out everything. Don’t become complacent when it’s due a cam belt and pay the price and get a genuine and a reasonable garage to fit , Yes everyone is an expert but a tooth out on the pump it won’t run right , If you gonna attempt a belt replacement lock the engine and mark every pulley before taking anything off and remember check twice and manually turn the engine before ignition!

Hi Baku, thank you for your comment, much appreciated. I would have thought that they would move together or the leaking back amount will be linked between the different injectors. They are not independent of each other. Whatever chemicals (fuel, Wynn's, etc.) is going, it is going to every single injector. But how do you explain going up instead coming down?
@moremolecules
@moremolecules Год назад
The going up could be due to the injector getting blocked a bit with time. My overall measurements suggest that the injectors gradually get blocked, so if the second time the Wynn's did not do anything, the injectors will continue the upward trajectory. I have no idea why it did work the first time and did not the second time, it baffles me a bit.

@@moremolecules could it be that is taking some carbon from the tank etc and cloking the injectors? Also just read that we should change fuel filter after using the cleaner.
@moremolecules
@moremolecules Год назад
@@coolissimo69 For some cleaners yes, the filter needs to be changed. I do change mine at least once a year, so I have changed mine in between the measurements. There is the potential that I have not accounted for in my test and that is the pressure of the high pressure pump. Let's say it was not very efficient and the cleaner cleaned it. So, no it is more efficient and delivering higher pressure to the injectors. Then there will be more fuel returned. So it is possible that this can account for the higher measurements. The best thing at the end of the day is to take the injectors out, measure their flow rate than put them back in, use the cleaner and then take them out again and measure again. I simply cannot do that, too much work, hence my relatively alright fuel leak off test, not ideal, but easy to implement.
