Wynn's diesel injector cleaner TEST/PROOF, before/after fuel treatment and it works

Does Wynn's diesel injector cleaner really work? Actual scientific testing shows proof in the video that it works! This includes leak off test before and after the fuel treatment with the Wynn's diesel injector cleaner fuel additive.
Test of the Wynn's fuel system/injector cleaner in a turbo diesel 1.6HDi Peugeot Partner (2007; 90bhp; 105k miles), same as a Citroen Berlingo.
The tests comprise reading 3 times the leak-off of the injectors in the car when the fuel tank was nearly empty before pouring the Wynn's diesel injector cleaner. The car was also warmed before both tests. The 3 tests for each injector were done in a quick succession. Overall it takes me ~1.5h to do the 3 measurements for the 4 injectors. The Wynn's diesel injector cleaner was then added to the nearly empty fuel tank and filled with normal diesel. I drove 450 miles with the Wynn's diesel injector cleaner, mainly shorter journeys, but also some motorway as well (~30%) for about 1.5 months, so lots of stops and goes and sometimes the car stood not drive for a few days. The fuel tank was again nearly empty and I did the same 3 measurements of the fuel returned by the injectors. The idea is that if an injector is blocked it will return a lot of fuel back as compared to a normal (non-blocked) injector. Fuel is under pressure and a blocked injector will result in slightly more fuel returning than going through the injector. It is not entirely scientific method and it is a bit crude and there could be a lot of variability.
The video also shows how to perform a leak-off test or measure the return flow of the diesel from the injectors. Overall, one has to look for the variance between the injectors rather than some arbitrary constant return flow. There are some websites where it is stipulated that if the injectors are good if they return less than 25ml per min. I am not too sure about these values. After the test 3 of my injectors return less than 25ml per min. So, there might be some merit in this less than 25ml per min at idle.
Overall, the Wynn's diesel injector cleaner have cleaned all of the 4 injectors to some extent in my 1.6HDi. Overall, each injector returned ~6-7% less fuel per min, this is comparing before the Wynn's diesel injector cleaner and after. Before pouring the Wynn's I put 37L of diesel fuel in the tank and the tank was not entirely empty. Perhaps with less fuel, for example 20L, the results might have been better, but I intend to perform this again with less diesel in the tank.

I've had the strong engine shaking symptom on startup on my 2.0HDi, I randomly tried Wynn's injector cleaner, and the shaking went away. The car had 160000km when I first started using it, I have used a bottle of Wynn's every 10000km and now the car is at 210000km, no problems what so ever with injectors.

@moremolecules
@moremolecules 2 года назад
Hi Jozsef, thank you. I would not do 2 times in a row, as you never know it could damage components, Wynn's also only recommend every 3rd fill up. Also, if it is too strong concentration could also potentially damage something. I made a mistake and poured 37L, this probably is ~2x less concentrated than it should be. Most likely (I will try next time) with much less fuel in the fuel tank to begin with and only 20L of diesel inside the improvement would be much better. I would expect the relationship to be inear up to an extent, in other words the more concentrated the better the cleaning.

It really depends on how blocked an injector is of course. Generally, there will poor economy and a bit of loss of power, perhaps a bit of smoke as well. There could of course be some vibrations as well, so that may lead to prematurely worn engine mounts and other components.

They’re great synthetic products. I had an old motor, I used the engine cleaner fluid and the stop leak fluid. It was all of £10 for both. Worst case I lost £10. After doing some work and checking the engine nuts and bolts and ensuring everything was tightened to spec, replacing any easily accessible leaking gaskets. Using the cleaning engine before an oil change then the stop leak after an oils change - firstly no more leaks on the changed gaskets. Also, no more leaks on the gaskets that were leaking previously. Engine was smooth as butter - car was a merc c240, 97 model - could drive all day without issues. Eventually had to get rid due to it getting to the point where it was being maintained more than drove. Long story short those wynns fluids are decent.

Thanks for the video I've tried running liquid moly diesel purge (bypassing diesel filter) straight from the Diesel purge can. To be honest it didn't improve the rough idle (slight white smoke as well ) as the engine warms up the idle improves and stops smoking. I did the injector return flow testing and it showed two injector with excessive return flow. When you do this injector return flow testing do you do it at operating temperature or slight warm up. I get different results when slight warm to operating temperature.
@moremolecules
@moremolecules 2 года назад
Hi Tony, the before and after measurements were done at the same conditions, I mean as much as I can make them exactly the same. I get the engine pretty warm and in operating temperature. I do my normal 40min drive around town and a bit of motorway as well. I put the car in the garage and start measuring straight away. Both pre/after were done with the same route and driving time. Unfortunately, it will be way too much of a faff to do one measurement, then drive 30-40min and then do another measurement. I do the three measurements one after another, so the engine will get slightly colder with the second and third measurement. You can kind of notice this in the numbers, the first one (for all 4 injectors) is always a bit higher than the 2nd and 3rd measurement, i.e. returns more hot when slightly less warm engine. As an absolute measurement, this will not be too good, but works well as comparing before and after as both are affected by the same thing. Basically it is relative experiment, does it return less fuel or not and for that it is OK. It takes me ~1h-1.5h to do the 3 measurements with the 3x3min running time of the engine. You coiuld try with the Wynn's. My previous experiment with BG245 did nothing in terms of fuel returned with the same testing regime (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WZRwFliZl8g.html). Also it really matters what has clogged the injectors, if it is something that can be dissolved then there will be an improvement, but if it say mechanical in the injector itself then there will be no improvement.
@moremolecules
@moremolecules 2 года назад
For the rough idling I would say to check and potentially clean the EGR valve. It may be sticking a bit which will always give rough idle. Because it only costs time, maybe a bit for carb cleaner, it is worth trying (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wTQtVJEqGXI.html).

I have a Volvo V70 D2 (D4162T) which I guess is similar to this engine. I have strange noise coming only during acceleration and when hot following the rev of the engine. Hey, before like 3 months i had commented on a video of you with egr remove. I removed the egr and now i read in forums that removing the egr will clog the dpf. Is this true ? They say the egr is working in the dpf regen phase
@moremolecules
@moremolecules 2 года назад
Not too sure about the relationship between the EGR and the DPF regen. As far as I know it should not be a problem to regen with blocked EGR and it should not clog the DPF. I might be wrong on this one as I have not looked into it too much. It depeds on the conditions needed for the DPF regen and if working EGR is part of that. The EGR is there only for the nitrous oxides, it does not do anything for the carbon, the carbon does not burn and it will still go to the DPF. Whether EGR is blocked or not, same amount of carbon will go through the DPF.
2 года назад
You can block the egr valve with a fap without worries. I noticed this on my Peugeot 206. Before the egr blocking, the car regenerated every 250 kilometers approximately. After blocking the egr, regeneration takes place approximately every 400 kilometers. Result in less dirtying and the consumption at stabilized speed (below 2000 rpm) is improved. No improvement in consumption during acceleration phases or on motorways above 100 km / h.
@littlereptilian7580
@littlereptilian7580 2 года назад
@@Jani9238 yes but why
@tozzi32
@tozzi32 2 года назад
Don't trust these forums. EGR operation will put down combustion quality in the cylinders and will also push dirty build up in the intake manifold. When you remove the egr you're preventing intake manifold to get dirty and enhancing a lot the combustion. As the quality of the combustion is reduced the more soot is produced and the more the DPF will get blocked
