Build supporting muscles, butt muscles by walking on a slight up high hill, a few squats and a few scissors. Move unused butt mussels. Walk at least 30 mins a day. Morning sunshine is the best. Just saying did this my left hip stopped hurting no Voltairen anymore! I’m 69, Took six months.

Fully agree with your point. I was diagnosed with hip arthirtis and was up for a hip replacement. The docter could however not tell my why I have this. I found this very weird. I did research myself an learned my muscles are shortened by sitting too much (during Covid) and a wrong sleeping position (again a sitting position). This causes the joint to be pressed into the joint ball causing wear. The solution is to do stretch exercises to lengthen the muscles and to enable the bone to recover (according to the doctor this is not possible). I also changed my sleeping position (on back without pillow). My pain has reduced dramatically making it easier to do more exercises and strengthen my muscles. So I am on my way to avoid a joint replacement and committed to do so. I advice everybody to do your own research and learn how you body works and what this pain is all about. Docters don’t telll you and are focussed on prescribing pain medicine and surgery.

You are spot ON!!! As a relatively young person (currently 56, but issues started at 50), I have hip arthritis and have been told by two orthoped doctors that I am a candidate for a hip replacement. However, I am feeling better now than I did five years ago because I started to go to the gym to work the muscles. In addition, I am also taking turmeric to reduce inflammation and glucosamine chondroitin and I feel so much better! I am trying to push surgery off for as long as possible.

Back in May, I was scheduled for anterior hip surgery in October, as the pain in my right side was pretty severe - apparently from my sedentary lifestyle. Doing your recommended exercises has pretty much eliminated all of the pain, so I suppose I need to cancel my hospital appointment. I kept thinking the relief was temporary, but in fact my hip discomfort keeps improving as the cartilage must be healing. Thank you so much for your excellent video and explanation as to why the muscle imbalance was the root cause.

Thank you for your candid answer. I turned 76 this year and have had hip and back pain for years due to moderate scoliosis of the lumbar area shooting sciatic pain down the left hip and thigh. I was told I was eligible for total hip replacement and it freaked me out. I’ve had a PRP injection in the hip that helped a lot. Part of the problem is that I have hip dislocation with my left leg shorter due to the left hip tipped backward and the right hip tipped forward! Surgery will NOT fix that. I feel like a car that the tires are not traveling together. So I am sticking to deep massage on the left hip and moderate exercises and stretches. I am going to try and see a pain and spinal specialist soon to get her opinion about the source of the pain.

@@afinespormx7633 I am 83 yo, also as the above from France but from the Alpes and was according to my first visit with a surgeon over 15 years ago ready for a hip replacement. My second visit to another surgeon upon the insistance of my GP was 3 years ago and was told I have to hurry up with the decision to have the hip replacement given the growing, with passing time, risk of not waking up from anesthesia. Well, I m still around functioning rather normally probably mainly due to my old & steep 3 flights of stairs in my ancient provençale maison. So my strong gluts are saving me from surgeons' insistance on replacement. I do see once a week a kinésithérapeute for 25' session of a rather superficial massage BUT what helped me really and relieved for a few months my pain was a visit to an ayurveda modest AVP clinic in Palakkad, Kerala where among different plant applications my two legs were TRACTED mechanically with weights on each leg during two short sessions. It made such a huge relief from pain! and lasted a few months. This winter I'm going back to the same place to get the same treatment. + my continuation of dental fixtures + eye cataract operation. Very much looking forward to meeting again with real benevolent approach to medecine. Along this line of thought I would like to thank for this absolutely wonderful Doctor promoting the right approach for the majority of us.

I was scheduled for hip replacement surgery 2 December 2022 due to intense pain and discomfort, but narrowly escaped when I got COVID from my former partner, which invoked a mandatory stand-down period of 8 weeks. Then the ex-partner decided he didn’t want to be in a relationship with me anymore, so I put the operation on hold indefinitely while I moved out and got myself organised in my new circumstances. Meanwhile, I became more and more convinced that surgery is NOT the answer! I realised that my difficulties with tight and weak hip flexor muscle would still need to be overcome, as well as the need to strengthen my glutes, piriformis etc - my physio told me in late 2020 that all the fascia had become stuck together due to sedentary work patterns during COVID lockdowns and poor hydration had made it worse. It’s very exciting to hear you confirming my own beliefs and offering the means to get my body back on track and moving freely again without hip replacement surgery! 🥳

Idk why drs resort to “nothing you can do will help”- whether it’s to make you feel better about accepting additional surgeries, or to get themselves out of danger of being blamed for ineffective care. There is almost ALWAYS something that can be done. Doctors dont have the time to coach patients in life skills/therapeutic ways to improve health without paying money to providers. That business model does not “put food on the table”

I finally found a doctor who talks exactly about what I feel is happening in my body. I'm a very athletic person, so the diagnosis of osteoarthritis was a big surprise to me. However, over the past two months, I’ve experienced a significant deterioration to the point where I couldn’t walk and was in constant pain. I’ve been conducting my own research, which has led me to support myself with dietary supplements, detox diets to reduce inflammation, acupuncture, and applying clay to the inflamed areas. What has brought about a radical change within just a few days was a visit to the podiatrist, who prescribed supportive insoles. With these, I’ve started to walk again, and all the pain has disappeared. Of course, I’m now beginning to do exercises to strengthen my leg, focusing on the glutes and quadriceps. Thank You So Much For Sharing This information. ❤

You are so right! This is an excellent talk on the realities of joint issues thank you! I had an arthroscopy because my hip locked when getting up from a chair or getting out of the car. It did nothing to help the problem whatsoever! It was still just as bad if not worse afterwards- five years down the line, I realise I still have weak glutes, I relied on walking to keep me fit so I have forward motion muscles only. At 57 realise I’ve got to do the clams, the leg lifts side lifts all angles to strengthen my bum- I really like your positive attitude which has helped me realise I’ve avoided doing the exercises because of a background belief that I am going to have to have a new hip. You’ve given me hope and a point to doing these annoyingly boring exercises, but I will go at it with gusto- thank you very much for your video! PS for anybody else, thinking of having an arthroscopy just to let you know the surgeon interviewed me on the basis of giving me surgery on the wrong leg which was perfectly okay and still is - a big indication, which I should’ve realised at the timethat they don’t really know what they’re talking about!😢

I have THP in one hip 7 years ago. You are correct that you can strengthen and stretch the muscles and ligaments around the hip to delay surgery but if you have osteoarthritis, you’re eventually going to surgery. I am currently working like crazy to strengthen my glutes and loosen my IT band to delay surgery but eventually I’m going to surgery. I play tennis and basketball on an artificial hip, it’s a great surgery and people are healthier and happier afterward.

Hey John! Thank you for sharing your experience with us, we are so happy to hear that you've had a successful outcome from having THP surgery! One thing to consider is that at El Paso Manual Physical Therapy we specialize in helping people avoid unnecessary injections & surgery while traditional physical therapy tends to focus on healing post-surgery. Because of this, the information we provide will be different versus traditional physical therapy advice. Also, everyone's body composition is different so what works for one person may not work for another. What's important is finding options that work for you as you know your body better than anyone. In order to find a solution you may need to try different techniques and exercises that you find beneficial.

My experience with physical therapy was exactly as described here...my hip issue began with the snapping hip, so i went to a physical therapist for help in relieving that...but it only got worse...that is, it actually progressed over a years time in PT to hip pain and the debilitation associated with cartilage loss, and the dreaded "bone-on-bone" medical condition...which in my case led, over this same year's time, to a flattening of of the head of the femur, and the need to have the THA procedure...so my lesson learned, as is well pointed out here, if you are trying to be proactive and preventive with your hip issue, screen and choose your PT well. TY for this excellent advise here !!!

Arteritis is an inflammation. Some inflammations come from our food. High sugar&carbohydrates with high insulin demand will cause low level inflamation and over time can worsen. Also consider a ketogenic diet to reduce inflammation and add suppliments to support cartilage regrowth. May be other food intolerances are involved as well.

I have just discovered your channel and am feeling cautiously encouraged. My x-ray indicated bone-on-bone arthritis in both hips, and bone growth into the space in the joints! My impression is that there is no cartilage left to regenerate :( I also have bone spurs. I had been having hip issues for a few years and see a PT who does muscle release technique. They thought my issue was compressed nerves/discs in the lower back with pain referred to the hips. The exercises I've been doing including clamshells, hip bridges, Mackenzie method, walking, I guess have been keeping things from getting too extreme. But I have lost confidence in walking outside on uneven terrain (and walking was a passion), my hip sometimes gives way, and I have frequent stiffness and soreness. I will certainly give your methods a try and hope that things can still improve! Thank you!

Hey Julia! Welcome to our channel! Sorry to hear about your bone-on-bone arthritis in both hips :-( We hope that you can learn a lot more about how hip pain works and how to begin to improve your situation. Make sure to get going on strengthening your glutes aggressively. This will give you best chance at improving your hip situation. Strengthening in combination with walking using the glutes will make it even better. There's no guarantee on how much you will improve, it just matters how severe your current situation is. Since your hip is giving way, you really should consider using a cane. It will keep you safe from falling, but also it should allow you to reduce the stiffness and soreness in your hip after being on your feet. Best of luck to you Julia!

I’ve never had an ass. 😂😢. Same with my mom. My sis has a big round one and had hip replacement. I’m stoved bad though and she’s telling me to go get double hip replacement. Can’t bring myself to do it! I’m gonna try the ultimate food elimination diet to reduce inflammation and work on supporting bone and cartilage health. And exercises! It’s true that once I had my gallbladder removed I had depression (wasn’t absorbing fat soluble vitamins) and stopped walking. I sat down one day and couldn’t get up! In hindsight (hee hee) I realize that my gait was shortening prior to this, but I had no idea what that meant. 😢 I can put it together now. Anyway, I’m sensitive to many foods and found living in mold can exacerbate inflammation as well. There’s a fungus amongus, and I’m all about not feeding that monster. Sugar and starch is no bueno for me! Hard lessons to learn, and putting it out there for others in case it resonates. Best wishes, and thanks for the video! 👏🏼💝

Just before I turned 60 years old, my left knee and right hip were giving me TREMENDOUS pain, so much so that I couldn’t stand, sit, walk or sleep for very long. I thought it would go away on its own but two weeks later the pain was the same. I was going to make an appointment with a doctor the next day and decided to just see on the internet what possible reasons for my extreme pain in my knee and hip. The word “Boron” kept coming up in my research. I went out immediately and bought a bottle of Boron that night. I took (1) 3mg pill of Boron and several hours later 80 percent of my pains were GONE! The following morning I took the second pill and a few hours later 100 percent of my pains were COMPLETELY gone! I STILL take only (1) 3mg of Boron daily and it has been nearly three years later and never once has the pains returned in my left knee and right hip since. It seems I was seriously depleted in this mineral (Boron) and I’ve read that a lot of us, particularly older people are seriously depleted in Boron. I believe if I had gone to a doctor they would have suggested that I get a knee and hip replacement surgery. Three of my family members have had knee and hip replacement surgery done. I believe I had saved myself from having to go through surgery, the long recovery period and save the financial expense of going through surgery and all that recuperative time. Maybe something to consider BEFORE going through with surgery is is trying Boron or at least testing your Boron levels (with another doctor) to see if it is ONLY a mineral deficiency that is causing your painful knee or hip pains.

Another informative and positive video! Your videos give me so much hope for my bone on bone hip arthritis. I do the window wiper exercises many many times a day aswell as the butt squeezes! Whilst I was told that I needed a hip replacement, I can still quite comfortably walk for a few hours with a stop here and there and still feel ok..so I'm carrying on with your advice as excercises are most definitely helping. Thank you so much ☺

@Eva Elliott there are several videos that demonstrate it. It is a mirror of tailgate swings. In many ways. Off-loaded, lying down. Knees bent, and make your legs do a back and forth from the hip. Just fidgeting, really. But with a purpose🙂. Your feet are in same position, only your knees are the part that goes "in and out". He says 5 minutes. Many times a day

I'm grateful for having found your site. I battled pain for a long time, including becoming stupidly flexible through obsessive Yoga training. I eventually countered that with weight training but I had not heard the muscle imbalance hypothesis for why my most recent front left hip socket x-ray lit up fluorescent. My well-trusted general practitioner did not even suggest physical therapy. So , once I dropped the leg extension machine and deadlifts/lunges, I found some relief from severe inflammation. Now my "leg day" is mostly an extension of the glute work I've found here.

I was diagnosed with Advanced Hip Arthritis in Sep 2019. I've worked with 4 different Physical Therapist in 3 years. While I have made tremendous improvement in reduced pain, being able to walk, I'm not cured. I can't walk more than 5 blocks, put my socks or shoes on unless I turn my knee to side while sitting in bed and still it hurts. I get flair ups every week and depend on NSAID medication Meloxicam 15mg like 3 to 5 days a week. I think I will do the surgery! I want to be able to walk, bike and have much more range of motion when i bend on my left side.

I wish I had seen your videos much much sooner, in 2016 I was having pain in my right hip. They said I needed a hip replacement. I didn’t know any better so I had my right hip a total hip replacement then the next year they said I needed one in my left hip, so I got a total hip replacement in my left hip, it didn’t take I’m sure the doctor messed something up so they had to do another one on my left hip so I have had three hip total hip replacement surgeries and I know now that I could have avoided all three it was just a doctors making money. I wasn’t having mobility issues I was just having some pain. I am so angry that they did this to me just for the money and then as if that wasn’t enough he messed up on my left hip and did it twice so now I don’t have rotation there like I should, and no matter what I do my left hip is weak and will. I am so grateful for you and for your RU-vid videos I just wish I had started watching them years ago I could have avoided so much and by the way, thanks to you I did boy a boy had a right total knee replacement because of a baker cyst, still not sure what will happen, but I have the surgery asked for two years. I am 76 years old and I have had too many surgeries that I did not need just because I didn’t know any better. I trusted the doctors which was a mistake. Thank you so much for your videos in for sharing all your knowledge. I’m very grateful to you.. I live in America.

I do your hip excercises for 1,5 months and my hip is getting worse and worse. I feel pain even when i ride my bicycle which never happened before i started to exercise. So i abandoned exercises 3 days ago and i think that hip is getting better. Today i didn't feel the pain when cycling. I think my hip has worn out from the forward and backward movement of my leg. When I move my leg left and right I can hear the bones in the joint cracking. Therefore, exercise makes the hip worse because the acetabulum has a worn groove for forward and backward movement. Side-to-side movements chafe the cartilage more, because my acetabulum is no longer round

My left hip started hurting and going away and then started and never went away. I finally got a MRI for a hip injection for the pain. The results of the MRI showed my left hip has a loss of blood. I can't remember the name they gave the problem. I showed it to my therapist, and he told me we can't do anything to stop this. It is never going to get better it will only get worse. Basically, my left hip is dying I guess would be a simple way of putting it. I am getting therapy to keep everything lined up. Exercises to help keep hips and joints even. I did have one side tilted then the other. I also have been riding an exercise bike and seem to tolerate that well. My primary care doctor told me I need to get my legs in shape, and it will help recover from hip surgery better. Couple months to have surgery and I'm trying to be in shape for it. I never thought this would happen to me but with age seems a number of things are an issue now.

Came home crying today because I found out my hips are both bone on bone. I watched your videos and am going to do these to avoid surgery. I am hoping they can be successful. I have been taking the supplements for some time. This mostly started when I was very active and stopped working out, put on 35 pounds and after 6 months it was so hard to walk anymore. I had already started having loss of motion in my hips and am wondering if 20 years of jogging on hard surfaces might have contributed.

Great info and I definitely agree. I did my due diligence with PT and nutrition and ended up getting my right side done. Now the left side is giving me problems as the surgeon said it would, and I am going through a similar protocol to avoid having the left side replaced. This time around, it's not as advanced as the right side so I feel like I have a good chance of avoiding surgery. I can also say that I am 3 years into my hip replacement and at 61 years, I am back to training and doing martial arts (kung fu no BJJ) and am quite mobile. A hip replacement is certainly no the end, but it's not an easy road of recovery either. If you can avoid it, do so, but if you can't there's a decent quality of life after in most cases.

This is a revelation. I am a keen cyclist and obviously, cycling too exclusively can cause an imbalance in muscle strengths surrounding the hip joint. The Gluteal and Hamstrings get neglected. @tomlyn - I'm sure you got a 2nd opinion, and saw HOW MUCH of your joint surface was bone-on-bone. Meaning, if you have areas of good joint spacing, then the cartilage has something from which to regenerate... albeit slowly. This all seems logical. When asked the cause of my hip problem my specialist just said "it happens". But it seems to me that there has to be a functional reason why things happen. For the last two years I have lost 50lbs, and started to walk 3-4 miles per day, now I have left hip pain. My specialist told me to lose weight. WHen I told her that I had already lost 50lbs she looked dumbly at me, and shut up. It is my view that losing the weight (mostly off the belly) has shifited the geometry and stresses on my hip, and the walking has over strengthened my forward leg muscles leading to a change in the disposition of my hip ball to the socket. I look forwards to learning the exercises that might realign the system.

Hopefully you are mending with exercise, as I am. Back in May, I was scheduled for anterior THR surgery in October, as the pain in my right side was pretty severe - apparently from my sedentary lifestyle. Doing the recommended exercises has pretty much eliminated all of the pain, so I suppose I need to cancel my hospital appointment. I kept thinking the relief was temporary, but in fact my hip discomfort keeps improving as the cartilage must be healing. I hope there's no reason our appointments can't be cancelled .;)

Great channel and information. Did you state that hip osteoarthritis derived from hip dysplasia will not be helped by your methods? I've never had an injury, and the only thing my orthopedist could tell me is that I "must have been born with a form of dysplasia" due to being younger. I'm only 41 and will not accept getting a hip replacement, at least not any time soon. The X-ray is showing bone on bone but with a tiny bit of cartilage left. So far in the past month I have started supplementing with glucosamine, chondroitin, turmeric, hyaluronic acid, and multiple types of collagen; cut out virtually all added sugars and dropped carb intake by half; stopped lifting heavy weights on lower body workouts; and do my own at-home physical therapy including movements in your videos (I stopped doing some things as I felt I was over-stretching). I'm quite active and a healthy 160lb weight. I don't necessarily have pain in the hip itself, it's more groin area, thigh, and knee. Any feedback is hugely appreciated.

Everything you say, I thought too and spent 4 years trying to get muscle balance and better biomechanics, mindful movement and a huge daily program of strength and flexibility going. Sure it helped, but eventually it was a losing game and the pain eventually became too much, so I had a Birmingham Hip Resurfacing done. In hindsight I should have got the BHR earlier as you cant regrow cartilage,, so its unavoidable to get surgery once you get past a certain level.

This explaination makes sense. Some exercise machines might be ergonomically incorrect and cause muscle imbalance and improper movement, thus causing tissue breakdown and pain. Rest is probably the best remedy at this time, and then slowly get back in shape with intermittent exercise, depending on how you feel.

Oh wow. Its like you are describing everything thats been happening to me in november and December. I saw an ortho dr to ger a hip evaluation because of intense 24/7 pain not from any trauma it was inflamation. He did an xray and said I didn't need surgery so referred me to another orth dr but also a ct scan. When I saw the next dr he told me I had osteoarthritis and needed a total hip replacement. I was shocked because the other dr said I didn't need surgery. However that was before the ct scan. Since that appointment my hip has steadily improved and no longer hurts however I think I have gluteus minimus atrophy abd can't raise my leg up using the front hip flexor either. The damaged hip is on the right and that leg is almost an inch longer than the left leg. Its a congenital leg length difference not due to an accident or trauma. Plus my left foot is clubbed and rolls to the outside which further adds stress on my legs when walking or standing. A hip replacement won't address any of those issues.

Tried all this. Suffered years, to the point of having to crawl and pissing myself because I couldn't move without screaming/collapsing from pain. Tried all these things years before this stage. None of it worked. Before you get to this stage, get the surgery. I waited so long, my hips had shifted, and my back was being destroyed. A 2 inch height difference resulted. With NO reduction of bone length, my side to side length difference is resolving (it's been 8 months since surgery). You might be able to delay a year or so but in my opinion, the pain is NOT worth it.

I have been told that due to injury or maybe too much Prednisone my left hip is going bad. Lack of blood flow and that my hip will fail. Feb 1 I go into Orthopedics and they will discuss my hip. Therapist that is taking care of me said the condition, I can't remember the two words they used, will never get better it will get worse and if fails will be a bad situation. This all started late March of 2023 and has gotten worse. Therapist have told me repeatedly that my left side is off and not even on both sides. The joint from pelvis to hip keeps moving to an angle and likely causing pressure.

Accepted for hip replacement 2.5 years ago in Scotland by the surgeon. Strangely the physiotherapist tells me he was told I am Border Line and if exercise then I might avoid surgery Since then I have lost weight, do Chair type exercises, circuit training, lots of PowerWalking of around 2 hours most days and started Zumba classes with my wife. After lots of movement I feel great. My main pain is in the front middle right thigh and some in the knee area. Sitting, even for a few minutes is the main issue and even standing is almost impossible and often left walking and dragging my leg to be able to move. Often lying in bed is also slightly painful Weight loss also has helped a lot So I am way better than when first diagnosed I have also been doing your exercises and on the medication Meloxicam and Omrapazol I don’t know if I should live with what I have or have the replacement surgery I am male, 74 and otherwise fit. Had a bad fall 10 yrs ago, left pelvis tilted forward, torn muscles on left side. Since July 2022 pain in hip joints is pretty bad. I’ve been doing the exercises you recommended and it really helps with pain. It’s difficult to walk at times and my family doctor sent me to orthopaedic surgeon. I’m 72, always been active, but now I’ve put on some weight. Surgeon won’t do the surgery til I’ve lost all the weight, so if I can lose this weight, get more exercise to help relieve the pain, I’d gladly not have the surgery. I now have nerve painful issues on the outside of the right knee with area of numbness, not sure what’s going on there. Am I at an age where I can help overcome the osteoarthritis issues in my hips, or is it better to have the surgery? Right now I’m severely restricting how much food I eat hoping to lose this weight. It’s so difficult when I can’t run or do extensive exercise like I used to.

You mentioned being quad dominant as an issue and the importance of firing your glutes but it often feels like it's geared toward people suffering but who live a more sedentary lifestyle so mobility and strength training are likely to really help. How would the advice / exercises change for a different poputation?

Hey Todd, this is actually a fantastic question! We are more than happy to address this: Even people who are in exceptional shape can fall into this problem. When you think about it, people that practice a sport get reaaaally good at training the muscles that will make them better at a specific task, but this comes at the risk of neglecting the muscles that will help them stay more balanced. Lots of people with knee arthritis are former athletes who have incredibly strong quads and hamstrings, but underdeveloped glutes (when comparing them against their thighs, of course!). We have helped young athletes address their underlying muscle imbalances and, Voila, their pain symptoms get a lot better! Here is a video that explains this more in depth: "Muscle Imbalances" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KCF9-n_qCao.htmlfeature=shared Also, here is a playlist with all of our videos on hip arthritis: “Hip Arthritis Help” ru-vid.com/group/PLJVIPiFvv1mbICbP6qlXUZwMyAJlKD1dt Hope this helps!

So appreciate your videos and information. I had my first hip replacement at 57. I'm now 68 years old. I wonder now if I could have waited longer? At the time, the surgeon said my other hip didn't look so good either and I would need a replacement on that one in the near future. It has now been 11 years later and yes, my non-surgical hip acts up....have a bone spur on the hip joint too but I'm not ready to have the surgery. Not sure if you have heard of the exercise movement called "Barre", but I started doing that about 4 months ago at a barre studio near me. It is vigorous exercise movements for one hour...sometimes holding on to a bar, almost like a ballet studio, but not exactly. The classes are let by a trained instructor. Most of the participates in the class are younger than me but I continue to forge ahead because it's good for me. Lots of focus on strengthening the glutes too. I never knew the importance of having strong glutes! My only concern is that some of the exercises might be making my hip issues worse. We do lunges often and it sounds like those are not good for bad hips. I have watched your video on Top 4 Exercises for bone on bone hip arthritis and plan to do those on a regular basis. Do have problems sleeping on the side with the bad hip/ bone spur, at night though. It can wake me up due to discomfort. Usually take Tylenol and sometimes Aleve a few hours before bedtime. Your videos are truly remarkable and very encouraging to know that I can make a difference with exercise! Thank you!!!

You're welcome Bevmaybe!!! We're glad to hear that you're managing your both hips so well using Barre and our exercises. Yes, lunges can be aggressive on hip problems. The best advice is to listen to your body. If it doesn't like lunges right now, then avoid them for a time. You might just need more strength and control to do them correctly. Or you might need to avoid them altogether since you have a bone spur. This video might help you. It's intended for people with knee pain, but the same technique will help with hip pain too. Lol "since high school"... honesty. I worked at desk job most of my working life. Then ten years sitting as OTR truck driver. SITTING FOR A LIVING. I did hobby farming for many years to insure I had to lift and tote and DO SOMETHING that required daily physical effort. Anyways, I appreciate your videos SO MUCH. You are a gifted teacher, and your efforts are reaping great benefits to many people. 👏

Have similar experience as bevmaybe. Right hip replaced almost 5 years ago. Left hip bothering me now. Always done stretching which helps. My main problem is all muscles seized up at age 20. Hip Operation done at age 72. It's so hard when your muscles are so tight and you hurt all the time. How to proceed. Barry r.

Left out in the video above is the importance of diet, avoiding inflammatory foods and eating anti inflammatory stuff - food, herbs and supplements. My “arthritis” - pain and swelling in my knees and hips - comes when I eat wheat and maize and other similar stuff - who does not love cakes, biscuits etc! Getting your weight down makes a big difference. I am 71 in a week. No arthritis - but the exercise mentioned in the video is hugely important the older you get for lots of reasons - not just arthritis! I will try and watch the glute strengthening videos to understand what particular exercises are thought to be helpful. I am sure they will be helpful - but diet and weight are also hugely important.

Yes I read about this yesterday. I do the opposite of what I read. I eat inflammatory foods and do not eat the anti inflammatory foods. No supplements and hardly any water

I've been dealing with osteoarthritis for yrs but was sent to a orthopedic Dr this past week and he's talking hip replacement but also saying I'm not a candidate for it due to my weight . First off I don't want surgery if possible. But I'm also thinking it must not be to bad yet or weight wouldn't be a issue 🤔

When I retired from the Army nine years ago after 30 years my knees were shot. The army docs told me to stop running immediately and instead walk, cycle, swim or use ellipticals daily for cardio. I made that switch. My knees are worse than they were when I retired but not on an order of magnitude that is debilitating. I can still walk and go to the gym and use a treadmill and bike etc...... About two years ago I started having horrible pain in my inside of my leg in the groin area and sometimes it would be in the hip flexor area. This pain got rapidly worse to making me walk like an old man despite being highly fit. I ended up having an inguinal hernia on that same side so I thought maybe some of that pain was the hernia developing. Immediately following hernia surgery I had no pain in the area at all for two weeks then it came back and felt like a hernia more than hip arthritis. Now here I am 3 months post hernia repair and feel like I can't stand up straight or walk on a treadmill or on a trail at all. How can hip arthritis come out of nowhere so fast and become debilitating overnight when knee arthritis took decades to develop and I am still moving along with my knees wrapped? I use army hospitals for healthcare so not really eager to go have my hips ripped out and replaced with whatever they have lying around. The hernia surgery went well but took a lot out of me and my fitness regime is not what it used to be as a result. Would like to avoid hip replacement for a while.

Hello Don Mulder, Your story sounds like you have been through it. It seems like the running was a first trigger concerning you muscle imbalance . When you have a muscle imbalance you will continue with the same symptoms no matter what you do. It sounds like you may possibly have overactive quads and will need to ease the tension of those quads. This imbalance tends to cause damage to the knee and forward shift of the bone that goes from the hip to the knee and cause arthritis in both areas. People mostly feel it in knees first , as you did. Here are some videos to help , the exercise will help you move focus to strengthen and help you out. Thank you for your service DON. We appreciate you. Hi Krzemirhelinski, You are welcome. Thank you so much for your kind words and for joining our community. We hope that with the information that we provide you can work to avoid surgery. We have a hip arthritis help playlist that could be beneficial to your situation. You can access it here: “Hip Arthritis Help” ru-vid.com/group/PLJVIPiFvv1mbICbP6qlXUZwMyAJlKD1dt Start with one or two exercises, beginning with the smallest range of motion and the lowest intensity. As you feel stronger, you can gradually increase both the range of motion and intensity. It’s best to do these exercises every day throughout the day. Aim to tire out the muscle without losing form or control. Consistency is key. Always avoid working through pain; soreness and mild discomfort are normal, but pain is not. We'd love to hear how you are doing as you progress.🙌 Please take care!

My hip was injured from hyper-extending that leg on the job 2 years ago. It has continued to bother me, although the pain is just a dull ache on occasion. I also noticed that I have a hard time putting on my sock on the one side or tying my shoe on that side. I'm thinking it is a torn labrum, but then I wonder why I have a hard time pulling that leg up to tie my shoe on that side. Before my injury I was in excellent health. I can still jog a few miles at a very slow pace, but I don't think that is helpful to recovery. I am active with line dancing and zumba every week. At 67 I am doing well because I eat a very healthy diet as well as exercise. I can see how so many with my injury could have easily had surgery by now. I am encouraged because the hip has not gotten worse and seems to be getting better slowly.

Thanks so much for all of your videos. I was recently diagnosed with hip dysplasia and signs of secondary OA. What you say about strengthening the muscles makes sense, so that the ball sits properly in the socket. My only issues right now are pain in the side of my left hip when swinging my leg into the car and putting my pants on. Can you recommend and specific videos of yours to help me resolve my pain? I'm a male in my early 60s. I'm willing to put in the effort to help avoid surgery down the road.
