Can You Beat a Radical In A Viper? It Depends On What You're Willing To Do!

This was the goofiest race I've run in a while. Grant Reeves is a rookie-ish NASA racer whom I invited to come to SCCA. His car isn't really legal here due to power and transmission mods but I thought it would be fun in the general spirit of regional competition. Which it WAS! After finishing behind me on Saturday he decided to use the chrome horn at the start on Sunday morning. I followed him around but my tires were getting cold so I let Ray Mason by to give it a shot, then I dropped back to try to get a clean lap but unfortunately I didn't drop back enough to not immediately catch him. Anyway, check out Grant's CRAZY lines on the track. Sunday afternoon I started DFL to try to get some clean laps but by lap 3 I was back on the Viper's very wide bumper, at least I turned a 1:25 on the way there! Anyway Grant is a pretty unique dude with a very handsome and fast (in a straight line) car!

Time for a little turbo for that little bespoke V8.

I thought I was the king of stupid highly emotional moves when racing with you. Obviously not. Good run great lap time.

@jlemon3883 the only reason i didnt make the same move on him that you made on me was that I was fairly certain he just would have driven back and forth over my body until I was dead! See you at the autumn classic, I'll be back in the green rolling chicane!

Nice. So, after the kind invitation, he returns the favor by irritating you, practicing his blocking skills. Kudos to him for even keeping that thing on track. I've heard they're not the most desirable platform for most drivers. Before I read the description, I thought maybe his wife was eyeballing you in the pits earlier😂 I don't think he's that much faster down the straight, when you have full exit speed

He is quite a bit faster on the straights... often he starts off 15-20mph down and ends up 10-15mph up. I really enjoy driving Vipers on track; they're like big Miatas once you're totally confident in the car, which takes some doing for most people... but yeah, a lot of drivers really struggle in Vipers.

I cannot be the only watching to not be having fun with the 'hand on the dashboard' move. Are you not entertained? :)

I know you don't want to hear this but you drive like SLH, the viper guy drives like mv you're very smooth with style....

I should have pulled a Lewis and said to him, "you're so fast in a straight line"

That was very fun to watch, Viper was an idiot though

That was appalling driving by the Viper. The stewards should have had him black flagged for weaving/blocking.

There was apparently some discussion about that on both days... not sure what's going to happen.

How effective would his "driving with the rear view mirror" technique be if he was actually in a race wit cars in front of him that he had to consider? I'd guess not so much...but I've never raced, so what do I know.

It relies on me being in a 1600 pound car. In a similar Viper I'd have been able to hold position at the start and never would have seen him again.

Ego too big on the viper driver to be anywhere near a track with other cars. You did well to back off and stay out of his way.

Disappointed that you couldn’t find a way around the viper, at least you kept the the car in one piece….
