yeah, there's not much modern good turn-based j-rpg games on steam really... unless its some wierd rpg maker games with a bunch of anime girls on it. and to think this was just a silly flash rpg game...

I think almost anyone who frequents sites like Kongregate/Newgrounds and is interested in turn-based RPG have played it (or another game in the series). The EBF games are constantly at the top (in term of play count and rating) on these types of sites, which is already the amount of popularity I think the game deserves. It's not really underrated, it just never became a huge mainstream success. The core gameplay is addictive, the music is great, and the enemy design is/was creative. However, the graphics and gameplay never improved much since EBF3, and the story is... well, there's almost no story. I love the series and it will always be an unforgettable part of my childhood, but they are all pretty much the same formula from EBF3, a game that is 10 years old. Custom game options is definitely a step in the right direction, but I hope the formula would truly "evolve" one day, so that it can compete with modern RPGs.

Funny thing, NoLegs is a unit with not high defenses, very low base HP but very High base evasion. Right at the start of the base game you get a Male Knight armor set, it gives a ton of elemental weaknesses and lowers evasion, but gives big ammount of HP and Defenses, in EBF3 and 4 is a pretty crappy equipment. But for EBF5 I won most of the game and optional hardcore bosses (of course I was playing on Epic mode) with a Knight Set NoLegs, he also had an amulet that gave him the Target status, so I had a low resistance/high evasion character drop his evasion to win strong defenses and have every enemy target it because of the Status. I think it ended up with the Knight set even for The Devourer, it was just too good xd, the most surprising thing was NoLegs tanking Snowball, when it's close to die, it gets stronger attacks, and even then NoLegs was tanking them! (Almost dying most of the last turns, but still, it was pretty impressive).

that truly is interesting as i have beaten the game twice with as few limit breaks as possible. But, seeing this has made me very interested. unfortunately, i dont have the custom game settings. i think that is a paid feature

In normal mode this is possible But if you went hard mode or epic mode this is definitely undoable

yup, i didnt know it existed until january this year. since then though, i have beaten it twice

and the saddest part is, i played on a computer which had no sound so i didn't get to enjoy the music

In general i think the ebf franchise deserves some popularity as long it's one of the best RPGs I have ever played and the soundtracks are great

Really? I finished the game 3 times since it was released on Kong and I have found that leveling your right equipment and abilities at the right time to be more effective

@@thejazmaster5292 Incorrect. Considering that the players have a level cap of 50 with Scaling Enemies, by the end of the game enemies will be around or at your level. I'll be doing the ulti-challenge run soon, so I had to make sure of this.

@Leon Silver The foe scaling becomes less powerful past level 36.

Try the game at 200% difficulty it adds more strategy besides equipping the best hp and def. Armour and highest attack weapons you would need elemental weapons and resistances and because of that you cant keep the same op armour on the next area for example if you wana get past ice cave you would need ice and bomb resist but in lance's castle would would need bomb water earth electric and wind resistances

The point is in normal and can rush through with your best gear and win easy

@@maskedmanpk6048 I've played this game when the first game was released. It was so intriguing to me that I played it nonstop, trying to figure out the optimal strategy. Then came the second and third game and I loved them both. I still remember playing EBF3 with my younger brother and a very close friend of mine, we would role play as the character choosing what action our character would make(I got Natalie) and it was hella fun. Then the fourth game came out and we got another friend of ours to join in with the role-playing stuff(I still got Natz). Now, we are all in different highschools and since EBF4 was like 3-5 years ago, most of us has already stopped playing the game. EBF5 getting released is wonderful news to all of us, we bought the game the moment it was released on Steam and well needless to say, it is the best game ever made(so much fun that I'm trying do what we used to do: complete the game 100%). I sincerely hope that the franchise will keep on growing and become perhaps the best RPG franchise of all time.

At the time of this reply being made, the part I'm at is trying to get 6 stone heads. The game is really fun (Since it's my first run through the game, I'm playing it on normal) and while their some parts that are easy to get through, there were times that I had trouble. One battle in the game has 2 waves where the second wave is two of the water chompers and a Viking Monolith, all at about level 33 (I was at around level 29 when I did this battle), and the monolith's laser attack would heavily damage the team members on the field, making me spend some of the turns mostly reviving teammates and damaging with only one person. I was able to win that battle by taking out the chompers first (Anna's Frost Flurry special has been, and still makes some battles much easier because of being able to pretty much get a guaranteed freeze on an enemy) either way the game is super fun and is the gift that keeps on giving. I'm glad that not only did I find this video, but it also made me curious about the game, I'd like to check out the other EBF games in the series at some point

Eh, I'm not much of a fan of this one. Unlike most other ideas, it doesn't remove a VITAL aspect of the game. Sure, you might see Shyguy cut a few corners, but it wouldn't be nearly as interesting as other challenge techniques.

Your have to wait till it recharges or eat a chocolate bar forcefully If you have any item that ain’t bsoda or chocolate and there is one next to you. Swap an item for it This may seem extremely strategic especially at the end
