Haha, this is really cool. I wish I made this a custom game mode. I think all I'd have to do is make SP regenerate every turn, disable skills, and start the game with a few summons.
@@mahdiachamcham972 Alternatively, make the limit break the boss summons you captured. That would be very dope and gives boss summons a chance to shine over utility summons.
I do feel a lot better, in fact I think I came out as a new man. This September I want to do a special and big Q&A video to get the opportunity to talk about my life, jogging and other topics in general.
Crucial detail: at 21:50 the cosmic gigalith explodes, normally on hard/epic this deals massive damage and typically ohkos the front line Because of a normally unnoticeable glitch, the cosmic gigalith did very little. This is because the cosmic gigalith scales with summon attack rather than it’s own magic attack when killed by a summon, which resulted in very low damage
Elden Ring: You can even beat this game. . . . With Summons!?!? Shyguymask: Time to *summon* my *epic* skills to beat Epic Battle Fantasy 5 with my Summons!
I love how this challenge practically has anime powerscaling: "okay laurien is hard" "wait no actually Poseidon is harder" "but vulcan is even harder" "the final boss is literally impossible without near-perfect rng"
That Rules of Nature drop against the Neo Valkyrie is actually the way I and my friends wound up beating it, on our first try! Glad to see the strat again, somewhere!
Ok i gotta say, compared to your last efb5 video, this is such a significant improvement. Legit it feels like almost from different creators. Really love how your editing has improved over the years
I love how the protagonists were potrayed as pathetic people instead of a living legend like in other rpg games We have a neet, a college dropout, a nazi officer, a vietcong soldier and a homeless hadicapped blue cat
I mean, they are legends depending on your point of view. They did defeat a God and save the entire world from destruction. Though I guess that logic kinda falls apart when Matt says "We saved the world, so everything in it is rightfully ours" and starts robbing everything he wants with power so great that no one can stop him.
I recently got back into playing it, and I forgot how satisfying it was to push past boss roadblocks by seeing what equips and strategies finally worked, and how fun the game was in general. This game is severely underrated
@@bowldawg4394ebf5 is that one game where i get blown away by all the effects and quirks that certain equips can do. I usually stick to one type of weapon in games but in ebf5 you miss out on amazing combos and strategies if you dont experiment.
Hey SGM, just wanted to say i love seeing you do challenges on games that i never played, but you still make it interesting to watch. Your ideas are always creative and fun!
After defeating that challenge, the devorourer turned himself into bits that was sent via speakers as a sound encrypted data. That sounds, altough unhearable, became mixed with the cosmic background radiation. One day this radiation data will mix up and the devourer will finally become real. This day, mankind will be beholded by thousand of tentacles and lurking eyes
Man, Epic Battle Fantasy 5 really outdoes itself in nearly every element. I remember being floored by just how much depth the combat had when I first played it ages ago - it's undergone a truly impressive evolution mechanically from the first few entries in the series to the magnificent final entry.
"I had changed the date on my computer so that I would be able to obtain the Love Blade from the Valentine's Day quest." Ah, a true 'I really want the halloween drops in Terraria' strategy.
To be perfectly honest, I barely used summons in the game, the only real time I used them was in the final boss to get haste. Idk why since I always tried to capture, I even used the Mini Drone on matt.
I personally like the Voodoo Doll summons, I just wish I could actually capture the bosses. The closest thing to a boss that I captured was all the dragons (not the Hydras).
@@Aranmath I would advise trying to get the Pixel summons, specifically the Grey, Dead and Green ones. They are very cheap, only in the single digits of SP if memory serves and inflict some of the most useful statuses in the game for capturing. Specifically Weaken, Bad Luck and Tired respectively.
I was actually playing through EBF5 when this came out and I wanted to wait until I beat it to watch this video. I really liked the summon mechanic although I didn't use it too much due to not really knowing much about it. It's nice to see the true potential of summons in this video. Thank you for the great content as usual!
Having played though the series as they first launched, this is the best entry yet, though 3 & 4 are still well worth playing through too. I didn't think it possible but also wasn't expecting 'single player' to be the answer either XD
A few things I would add if others would want to do this challenge. If you can, try going for the Grey Pixel, Dead Pixel and Green Pixel. They inflict a stack of Weaken, Bad Luck and Tired respectively. Those 3 statuses are some of the best statuses to inflict on enemies you want to capture as Weaken and Tired both add 2 additional stat debuffs, and Bad luck makes it easier to inflict those statuses. On top of that, those 3 enemies have a very low SP cost, making them easy to add to a strategy assuming you can survive long enough. If you can manage to beat it, GLOB is also pretty good for inflicting statuses, inflicting no less than 6 different ones, including Tired Weaken and Curse, the three that decrease stats passively. Either way, great video. Maybe there will be another video on the optional bosses, though I don’t expect it any time soon… Also glad you’re doing well now.
Tired and Curse is the game. Weaken isn't good for capturing because offensive buffs/debuffs don't affect it. And as precision is considered offensive, it also has no effect, so Tired and Curse increase the capture chance by the same amount (because evade is worth the double of defense).
I amended this in another comment but not here so I’ll do it now. While I stand by Green and Dead Pixel being good, as well as GLOB if you can gain access to it, Grey Pixel isn’t as good. At the time, I had forgotten that Attack debuffs don’t really matter in terms of capturing. Since I’m here, I’ll also mention that Putrid worm is really good as well as NoLegs doll. (Also, if you play this challenge on a non 1 player mode file, you can get Putrid Worm before Dirt Boulder by having the game on Epic Difficulty as that starts the battle with the worm having poison status, and it has the ability to inflict virus which stacks to be just about enough for a capture)
The game has so many options that it is what you make of it, you could go through completely ignoring capturing and summoning, or you could be like SGM and only use capturing and summoning, the game has also a huge amount of optional content.
@@olixx1213 Touchè, I'd argue this game's final boss is the hardest of all the EBF games. ...I will also say it's quite the fun challenge! My first playthrough was on Hard and blind (without any non-asterisk challenges/cheats) and it was insane, yet I reached half health on my first attempt! Persistence and adaptability are key.
"Knowing the Devourer is actual Creator of all simulations, but he didn't fix the Glitch and it literally overwhelmed him" Anyway, do you wanna try to clear EBF5 but only using Confuse or Berserk status?🤔
1:57: How to spare NoLegs 3:28: Finally SGM does a meme on low damage 8:49: Lance is married to a tank? 9:29: GET BLUE SHELL'D 13:36: But it didn't even matter 14:12: "lmao" is not the correct word. The correct word is "bruh" 15:07: Another Cosmic Monolith grinding spree again? 16:24: Interesting, a dialogue change if you capture Poseidon instead of killing him. Too bad Vulcan doesn't care anyway. 16:37: rip 17:42: Until it works 19:20: Even with Vulcan's best efforts, he was no match to the determination of SGM. WAIT If all the summons are kept together, what will happen if Vulcan meets Poseidon? 20:46: Lance: WHAT THE-(gets interrupted by Natalie) 21:41: "Not giga damage" 24:22: ANOTHER BLUE SHELL'D 25:12: Imagine being the god of the universe and dying to a glitch that has a extremely low chance of actually killing you
@@BananaTrooper3650 | I've also noticed that Skadi and Sol have something you say to Jotun if you use him against them. The same probably goes for using the first cat tree boss _(I forgot its name.)_ against Telperion.
> Hey! You said you grinded to Level 38, not Level 40 in your video! SHYGUYMASK IS A LIAR! SGM grinded to 38, fought Dev, and got his rear handed to him. Then he grinded some more to 40 and only then was he able to win.
Good to see you back! Also i liked how "Massh" went from grinding sp for water slime to poison stalling (sounds like every pokemon challenge you did) Btw idea of using free summon armor only if you have already captured the summon was creative and pretty balanced ngl
@@lance499 Oh, you're pre-Devourer then... Don't mind me sir, I had those cultists trailing me the whole day saying that the world is a simulation and now I'm pretending to be one for a while so they leave me alone. By the way, could you fetch some potato chips for me? And bring an Ice Cream Slime too. I'm hungry, so would be a nice help, thanks in advance. I can give you a nice skill of mine as a reward.
This was an incredible video. I've learned a lot about EBF5 from this challenge and the item challenge. I was thinking of doing a challenge run of maximizing the number of surrendered foes. Still going over details, but the information here really helps.
@@BananaTrooper3650 I guess editing that feels more like filler then something that improves the video, stuff like using editing to drag on something for 30 seconds when it very well could've lasted 10 seconds
9:29 Matt: **Summons Blue Shell Insectoid** Lance: NOOOOOO!!!! ALL THE TIME I TOOK CREATING MY BEAUTY, DESTROYED...! I AM ALSO SEVERELY INJURED... By this freak... And... Matt: Cry about it lol
This is the second time you introduce me to a game I really liked, the previous one was CrossCode which I loved (waiting for Project Terra now) and now this
Probably should've taken the time to mention that summons don't care about accuracy or evasion(unless otherwise specified, in the case of Gunslinger), they always hit. Or maybe you did and I didn't notice it, and if so, do tell me. Other than that, welcome back, SGM! I can't wait to see more of your challenge runs!
There’s a flair that gives an small amount of sp every turn, but that may be cheating. Also, lance has a gun called accelerator. It is like a pocket watch, but with a 50% to give haste, 50% to give haste to a random party member (which in this case, lance) and 50% chance to slow down a foe (stun), It is non elemental. Combine with pocket watch, you can get THREE stacks of haste in a single turn! This basically breaks the challenge, combined with the sp flair. Also, the ram chip (another flair) increases your max sp by 33%. So that’s very useful. The only problem is you will have to beat the arcade boss rush, which scales to your level. Overall, great challenge. Just that those equips above completely breaks everything, but it was about the journey, not the destination.
Oh . OH MY GOSH,HE IS BACK!!! Nice to see you again, bro. Honestly, EBF is one of my favorite RPG-s. I'm glad you don't forget about it. Love your videos
As late as I am, I LOVE this video, something about it is way to satisfying and I can’t stop watching! Keep up the good work, can’t wait for the next upload!
So basically Act 1: *advanced pokemon stalling* Act 2: DO YOU WANT TO EXPLODE!? Act 3: Have you heard about the press turn system? Act 4: *after putting an actual armor with actual defence* That's a cute attempt, the thing is my numbers... Are bigger than yours. Act 5: GG EZ, ALL SKILL BABY. Act 6 extra: Team: My work here is about to end. Pokemon trainer: But you haven't done nothing. Team: *leaves* Act 6: With the power of my -friends- slaves and this -gun- glitch that I found, I will defeat you. PD: Glad you were able to take a break, I hope you were able to enjoy it. PD2: Also, technically you said that "no glitches were allowed" yet you used one in the final boss, so you can say that you technically failed the challenge?
Wow. First you got me into bonk and diep, then pvz again, then terraria, then crosscode, and then EBF5! Bro I love your content. Thank you for another amazing video :D
I can't believe you have actually done it, you absolute madman. I am not surprised that it worked because some of the summons are ridiculously good but to even get through the early game slog must have been a pain in the ass. The fact that the literal first unavoidable enemy is the exact thing you need to exploit No-Legs' weakness to water is both beautifully poetic and also makes me wonder if there might be the smallest chance that maybe someone thought people would want to try this challenge and intentionally made it possible. Probably not but I like the idea. 3:26 this made me laugh hard Now I wonder what a 'no direct damage' run would look like. Basically you cannot damage foes directly (including items) but you can utilise counter-attacks along with random equipment summons. Maybe caught summons too, if you want and if you allow catching. It would probably have to be a custom game again, maybe even New Game+, but still.
pretty good concept and presentation of it, thanks for the video if only challenges which are solved by skill or game knowledge were more common somehow they all end up in grinding a lot just like you said in the M&L one
Your Baaaaacccckkk! I hope that means you are feeling better. Always remember that taking a break is perfectly fine. Dont pressure yourself to make videos on the same tight schedule again.
Here’s an idea for a challenge: Can you beat EBF 5 using only free attacks? That means only thing you can use to deal damage in combat is the free spells or summons you get from your equipment.
You can actually beat those 2 fights with the Randomized Equips setting. Forget exactly how I managed it, pretty sure the very early game was beaten by the Santa Hat equip, as well as eventually getting a few different equips to beat Jotun. Not sure about the rest of the game, did not feel like torturing myself that much -yet-
A challenge idea: can you beat ebf5 with only the starting skill? No unlocking new skills. Only the skills that you can do when you first unlock the character. Only the starting limit breaks. No summons, No throwing items. Also, you cannot use any equips that are not the default equips and no free attacks nor counterattacks. Happy now? What? You wanted more? You have to do it on epic difficulty and you cannot be three levels more than the boss. Ok fine here is some pity, you can use save scumming and switch the starting equips around with the characters.
Welcome back! I just checked this channel a few days ago after a while of not watching, and was sad to see you were on a break. Hope you're doing better now!
Hell yeah! I love EBF challenges, I recently bought Project Zomboid and was wondering if that game could have challenges like these? Keep it up man, awesome video as always
Man this seems so brutal since the only way you're reliably getting sp points is by outright one shotting with summons (which don't refund much back) or capturing enemies.
welcome back! You are a pretty big inspiration to me and thanks to you I streamed a full playthrough of ebf5 pacifist (beat the game without killing any enemies). Was a pretty fun challenge
I still hope we someday get an EBF6. The EBF collection released pretty recently so it’s clear Matt Roszak and Kupo Games haven’t completely ceased to exist, and bullet heaven 3 has been mentioned a few times and I think is still in development so the idea of a sixth title in the Epic Battle Fantasy series is possible.
Where do you go from 5 though? We've been facing serial escalation. You'd probably be better off with an episodic "EBF Chronicles" game that's a bunch of smaller campaigns.
