@@ThePageofRageFF5 White Mage only is HARD. Using the Flail (and there's only one of them) would be their only source of damage for very, very long time.
Loving every one of these. The algorithm tossed me your way after watching your old channel Dead Rising guides of all things, and I fell happily down an FFV rabbit hole. Can't wait to see what comes next.
@@sertiana2512 that's not why elixirs are so infrequently used. They're not used because "maybe I'll need them for a later fight" being said all the way upto the final boss. FF meming at its finest
@@sertiana2512 and yet, without fail, there's the stockpile of elixirs you've gotten since the start of the game (in ff6 for instance the very first item you can get in the game is an elixir from the clock before meeting Locke), and the number hasn't gone down at all
It may not be necessary to know now since you got through one of the hardest classes (though Adamantoise will be hard for White Mage too, I imagine) but here's a little insight into the damage formula. There are three things multiplied in the formula to determine your damage: effective attack, level, and strength/magic. (This is then divided by a high number to get it into a reasonable range). But the key here is "effective" attack. The enemy's defense is subtracted from your attack. So for Mage Masher's (31 attack) vs. Adamantoise (24 defense), you only have 6 effective attack. Grinding levels does not change that at all, it only will occasionally, at certain levels, add another 6 to the damage. I saw you hadn't equipped the Main Gauche, which would've given you an effective attack of 11. Would that have made it easy? No. But that's nearly double the damage output for whoever is wielding that dagger.
Hands down funniest video so far. Never thought I'd hear you pleading for a Berserker's damage to save you. The Adamantoise fight was ridiculous, not just hitting with butter knives but cheap plastic ones at that. It's interesting that this run was pretty much the polar opposite of the Red Mage one. Red Mage is only strong for the middle portion of the game and Bard struggles terribly through the middle until you get the better weapons in the end.
So, between Berserker and Bard, the 2 worst jobs, kind of go opposite ways. Bards were terrible while Berserkers were pretty good first world, but they flipflop by world 3 because at least Bards can use items and get the chicken knife.
Sometimes you were saying "Bards" but I was hearing "Bartz" and I was very confused! "Bartz wore down the first flamethrowers relatively painlessly" - what about everyone else?!
I just got the 100% achievement in FF5 last night, been playing it casually over the past couple months and man I was ready for it to be over with... Can't imagine how Wes feels about FF5 after this playlist is complete
White mage is going to break your soul. Im doing a 4 whm run and uhhh yeah 2nd world has been an absolutely brutal hell. Can't wait to see you "enjoy" this misery.
Bard is genuinely an S tier job as long as you have basically any other job along. Bards and Berserkers together hilariously outclass either alone in single class challenges
As frustrating as berserker surely was, this one looks even worse. Mostly because yeah, you're in control but you're so weak you still can't do much of anything...
Some of the jobs clearly exist just to compliment another job. Bard’s Sing command starts as a really solid supporter support ability. White Mage being able to regen the whole party in one round? Pretty decent. If nobody needs healing why not try Romeo’s Ballad? Also, speed affects how fast the buff songs work, so a Ninja or Thief with haste makes a great backup singer. It’s really fun seeing the ATB system become dysfunctional as you accelerate towards 255 speed.
So... Is freelancer considered one of the Jobs in question? Will we get the Freelancer only finale? (I'm sorry if you weren't planning on this and now feel compelled to 😅)
@@BacklogBuster I wonder if it'd even be worth separating them into different uploads considering Mime isn't even accessible until after the Fork Tower...
The “fails” may be true since you’ve intentionally used Black Mages against Omniscient after your Monk-only run, but in no way are you the “loser” mentioned in the graphic. Especially after these one-class-only runs (particularly with classes like Bard). Bi-lal kaifa.
Huh. i always wondered why Harps sucked so bad in FFV. I looked it up and every harp except the legendary one (Apollo's Harp) deal Current HP% damage which implies Gravity. Which is why they miss on 99% of bosses and suck on normal mobs. I gave up on Harps LONG before I got the Apollo harp, but I bet it'd actually be useful.
Finally caught up with this series! Amazing work Wes, looking forward to the other classes, I'm especially curious to see what Geomancer and Chemist will be like, but I'll watch everything else too.
Huh... I didn't think it would be possible to complete only as bards. On top of that, their levels were lower than I expected. I was expecting level 80 at least.
Also download them! Just downloading a video gives it 100% watch time, even if you immediately delete it after the download finishes. Or at least it did last year, not sure if the 'sleepy time playlist' meta shift broke that, but as a fellow premium watcher it can't hurt to help.
I can 100% confirm for you that your Dead Rising guide is still mostly applicable for 72 Hour Mode and the Saint achievement on DRDR (I was able to follow your route on the Deluxe Remaster near perfectly, with some minor revisions). However, it’s not as much use for Infinity Mode anymore due to the survivor/psychopath spawns being randomized - but it’s fortunately a more balanced and reasonable game mode overall. 7 Day Survivor is far more feasible due to the save suspending/advance time features and the increased sources of food from encounters or non-unique enemies (I actually found myself having quite a bit of fun while playing it, it was now a surprisingly pleasant challenge).
This was always gonna be a rough one. I knew Thief and White Mage were rough starts, and then Bard comes along to replicate those starts partway through World 1. I don't know why but Red Dragons are undead. Requiem ought to have been viable, though I've never tried it. When the antlion fight goes bad, it goes real bad. I've been stuck in there a while myself. Five Giga Flares. What does one even say? I guess that I never knew !Hide had _any_ utility. This was silly and I enjoyed it! Thanks for giving Apollo's Harp a shot, possibly the least appreciated sealed weapon. I never take the Chicken Knife because who _wants_ to grind escaping for an hour? Thank you for suffering for our entertainment.
I like that the chicken knife exists, but man, I hate using it. It's more tolerable on like Ninja or Thief since you can just auto-escape but it still feels awful every time.
52:12 It's been a very while since i last played this game (and anyone can correct me if I'm wrong) but isn't there an accessory that grants float to the user, which Catastrophe will continuously try to remove with 100 Gs (and fail) making the fight completely free? Also, HOLY COW, i have a lot of job challenge videos to catch up
No accessory grants float. You can get float on other ways, and then have a reflect ring on to reflect the Gravity 100's so you're permenantly airborne.
Oh, I see. So I remembered the idea of the strategy right, but the wrong setup Guess that's a no go for most of the challenges, unfortunately Keep up the great work!
I’m only 29 minutes in, but so far you’ve left a LOT of damage on the table by completely neglecting Temptation Song! I believe it’s called Alluring Air in the Pixel Remaster. Your enemies should be tearing themselves apart this entire time.
@@BacklogBuster There's a very tiny amount of bosses that are susceptible to Charm/Confuse. Melusine is one of them. But Melusine is also susceptible to Romeo's Ballad. You're honestly just better off locking her down with Romeo's Ballad instead.
Worst case scenario, could chance an instadeath proc chance from Assassin's Dagger on the gigaflare turn. It's 1/3 chance so it's far from reliable, but it beats walking all the way out of the rift to recharge the lamp.
Pretty sure you could have finished Omega though it would take some time. By staggering Two Romeo's Ballads you can basically immobilize Omega while the third Bard uses Swift song. After a while a single Bard would be able to hold Omega stopped at which point you can boost the attack using Sinewy Etude. Slowly and steadily you'd murder Omega with a Chicken Knife.
Bards are a powerful class. They can make Drakenvale, the Pyramid and the Trench very easy thanks to Requiem. Also being able to stop or confuse enemies at will is great. But more than one in a party is redundant.
I know this took you forever, but i am so glad that these keep coming. I don't even PLAY FF5! The commentary, strategy and well... EVERYTHING has been great in this series!
I love how many people don't realize how many enemies are able to be stopped with brd in this game. 😂 Nearly everything in the game can be stopped with Romeo's inclusing a certain super boss.
