Hey! I didn't realize that the same guy who did this also smashed MGS1 without guns. Great work on the videos my man, there's a whole lot of quality here and I hope that you become successful in your endeavors.
Thanks! I have plans to play a bunch of games wrong. I have also just dropped a video on Tenchu 3, next one is in the oven! (MGS3 will be happening, just not yet)
Absolutely pristine editing of this run, especially on the node interacts. Very smooth. And a smooth run, too! Looking forward to combing the rest of your content after the algorithm so lovingly presented this to me.
Here's some tips for the Ray fight. What attack the center Ray goes for is completely determined by how close you are to it. At the closest range it'll try to stomp you, which you can easily dodge with the cartwheel. A bit further away and it'll do the water cutter, which is easy to dodge just by running parallel to the Ray. Further still and it will fire bullets which you dodge by moving forward or back. And at the max range it will fire the knee rockets, so you definitely want to stay out of the max range. My strat is to trigger the water cutter attack, dodge and immediately shoot it in the face before the attack ends which counts as a critical hit because the mouth is open. This means you don't have to hit the knees first. If your quick you can even take pot shots at the Rays on the sides before the one on the platform has time to shoot another water cutter. When you kill the Ray that's on the platform you have plenty of time shoot the others in the knee and then the face once or twice before the next one jumps up. Also if you shoot them in the face as they're breathing out that blue mist, that also counts as a crit. I actually really like this fight, even on the highest difficulties. It takes a lot of focus but once you get into a good rhythm, it's not that bad.
Yeah, for sure. if you havce it down on normal without getting hit, you can do EE. The difficulty is the length of time to concentrate and stay focussed. its an endurance test above all else. Actually a fun fight though tbf
Man there are tons of strats I never heard of. This is by far one of my favorite games, so I can't wait to try these out for myself. Keep up the great work, these videos are edited and narrated beautifully
Will you please do all the MGS games? These little challenges are entertaining. Surprisingly your commentary makes it better. I usually dislike commentary. You, sir, have found the formula for a lot of views: choosing a great game with a huge cult following along with making it fresh with difficult challenges on top of it all while making it a good walkthrough/let's play. KEEP IT UP
Thank you. I am glad you enjoyed it. I do plan to do more of the mgs games in the future, I am working on a differentbgame atm, but will do mgs3 at some point. Mgs4 might be tricky to do, but I will investigate
Holy fucking fuck mate, I've watched the entire series of your MGS play throughs in the span of 24 hours. Amazing gameplay, great commentary, especially loved when you started over after finding out that you have two kills. Keep up the good work!
Never in a million playthrough of MGS2 would I ever think to just hide behind the box and punch guard in the groin. I wasted so many rations and ammo shooting them XD
Everybody probably knows it, but second phase of Solidus is so much easier if you just stand in a corner (the one where you can't fall off the edges). You never catch on fire, and blocking attacks becomes trivial, no matter the difficulty setting.
9:17 maybe try putting the guard you knocked out in the locker, it's been a while since I played mgs2 but either I assume the gun woke up the guard or just the guard outside heard you.
What the hell happened here? 54:30 I've never seen a guard just randomly shoot for no reason like that. Also you can see the shot hit the wall behind you but if you look at the radar you can see that neither of the guards were even facing you. I've been playing this game for almost 20 years and I've never seen that!
Fatman you literally turned into a stooge considering you spent 5+ minutes just slapping Curly around in place While im not sure if it works in Euro-Extreme but the Shell core B1 Biometric scanner can also be done on the first time through with the guard around the corner, just stand towards the wall and the second you choke him you just shove him into the scanner that both reads his retinal pattern as well as knock him out (obviously a joke) The BDU I believe does help with distant lines of sight even on guards in the green variant... side not i just realized BDU stands for Brown Disguise Uniform... to think as a kid i always called it the Bad Dude Uniform... i know cringe but still just a childhood memory from playing this For the Harrier I had no idea it got that intense with missiles... guess its a running theme for raiden to be dodging a barrage of missiles You got good RNG on the president he obeyed and ran in the corner instead "MR. ME GET DOWN" and runs directly into the obvious missile shaped missile Tengus fight i couldn't help but notice snakes health being slightly longer than yours meaning that innuendo MF took your health increases from each boss permanently defeated Ok i did not know that about the text below. lol good way to spot a cheater for splices Rays... you really feel like raiden in the cutscene after taking out 20 of those Solidus you definitely did not kill, the cutscene did and also that was on him for falling.... DAMMIT Snake got another health boost Good run overall Sir Rando. this basically became a long play with cutscenes and codec calls skipped. until the end where you montaged another playthrough... jesus how many gigs did all this eat up?
Thanks for the comment! Yes, it was a bit of a roller coaster to do. At the end I have about 60 gb of footage I think? But yeah, it was a lot, glad you enjoyed it!
@@sirrando you record MP4 format for OBS don't you? I did a NG Full Playthrough of RE4 and I'm sitting on 115GB of video files.... Resolve does not like MKV formats.... But the crisp quality tho....
I used a capture card for this. It had on board storage so went through that. I think it records in .mov? Or avi, I can't remember off the top of my head. Also, it's 1080 60, so nothing too mental
Why a timer popped up on the screen at the beginning of every boss fight? Did you take those particular bits from the Substance version and edited the thing into this?
the fatman strat was amazing! as for the ray fight... my eu ex no kill file is stuck there. thats where its been for the last 10 years or whatever. so tedious
That took me a couple of evenings to get. You just gotta remember, once you have made it for 5 minutes, you got this. Its just a test in concentration and consistency!
Tbf. To make you feel better. That was so overtuned and difficult in the original release on the harder difficulties they made it dramatically easier in the master collection and HD collection
Yes. The answer is yes. The lore reason for that though, the rays in arsenal are mass produced and controlled by the failing GW AI. Also doesn't have the Chad that is Liquid piloting the thing like a demon
@@sirrando i've always thought that was that GW mass-produced them like as AI would using available materials not necessarily the best stuff Hense any rusty old nackered Rex kicks the hell out of one in mgs 4 Rex was built properly
Played on a xbox 360, with the HD collection. There is a re-release coming out later this year on modern co soles and PC aswell called the master collection
@@sirrando yeah atp im just waiting for that release haha, miss the game so much it was my childhood on ps2, excvited to play the first one never had the chance
I don't think they should had counted considering they triggered a game over and the player restarts from when they entered the area were it didn't happen yet. This is what put me in a habit of always reloading my saves instead of using continue or retry.
@nightfallalicorn4246 Ive been trophy hunting on this and on mgs3 the past few days, and I learned the same thing trying to get the Big Boss rank and the Foxhound rank on mgs2.
No joke, anyone else would have played that off. Not many people even know that that screen shows your stats throughout the game but he did it all over.
9:18 - the guard outside of the room heard the gunshot, it counts as being spotted. Great play through, some really interesting tricks on display here. You're pretty good!
Ah ha! I can see him flash red. I didn't think he would be able to hear me with the door closed. But good eyes! And thank you! I am working on other silly stealth game challenges aswell
@@sirrando No worries! Tried a run like this myself recently and did the "I'll just go along the wall as he turns the other way" and the nut shot trick thinking "No way this'll work..." Followed shortly by "Muthafucker...." In amazement haha! I'll keep an eye out for future episodes for sure!
@@sirrandoyou'd be correct in thinking that, actually. However, this particular guards route takes him very close to the door and it opens whenever he passes it. I'm pretty sure this is the only instance in the game where that happens, and I'm pretty sure it was put in specifically to catch people taking out the semtex with an unsuppressed usp off guard. It worked I guess, lol
9:17 The guard outside the door was close enough to hear it. European Extreme is any alert phase, not just being seen. Loud weapons too close to a guard will also trigger alert.
I'm sure that is the reason. I have never had an alert there in that area because you can get away with loud noises due to the engine noise in the background
Just coming out swinging with banger challenge content. Recently finished the metal gear series for the first time and noticed a severe lack of mgs challenge runs, so glad you are filling that niche. These challenge runs are also my favourite kind, where it shows a large amount if not the full gameplay instead of heavily edited short videos, even if that means lulls of commentary. If I could suggest one, perhaps a MGS3 run while using the actively worst camo at all times? Seems like a unique idea while also being an interesting challenge.
See. I have an issue there. I have a tenchu video out that does use a more highly edited format. I think, I should do a "Truth Tapes" kinda thing where the full run is uploaded separately. Because some of the challenge runs I have seen. It feels pretty easy that it could have been "cheated" Especially as some of the games I try get longer than the mgs trilogy that are really quite short
Oh yes, I would never expect a full length challenge run of basically anything but a souls game or a metal gear game. Fallout challenge runs come to mind of being over 10 hours. Or even persona ones, over 100 hours.
Amazingly done video. (And skill too!) I'm sure it's only a matter of time before your channel makes it big. Awesome presentation, very professional and you have a great time and delivery in your voice. Thank you for such an enjoyable video. Cheers
While MGS1 has the best game story I have seen, MGS2 is indeed quite a game in many ways too. I remember doing it in BBE difficulty and stopped at the Solidus torture after the RAYs. The RAYs itself is of course a nightmare in its own, especially when playing it without the help of YT nearly 20 years back (and that is not to say that Fatman, Harrier and the first Vamp fight is easy). Also need to mention how Kojima foresee the internet development leading to people having more disagreement than mutual understanding, and how Raiden is talking to an AI... I need scissors, 61!
The original release, the solidus torture was MUCH harder than the newer HD Edition. I do think MGS2 is my favorite, its the one that I think of most? even though MGS1 was the game of my childhood. An incredible series of games regardless!
Started on your mgs3 video and i must say these are very well done videos your presentation style is relaxing and easy to watch very thorough overall incredibly enjoyable. You deserve way more views and subscribers! Keep up the amazing work!!
I went back to watch this after seeing the MGS3 challenge. Starting the entire run over because the game decided to count the accidental kills that force "Game Over" anyways? That's some kind of dedication. You have my respect for certain, Sir. I'd love to see other challenge runs of older games like this; it's always fun to see how far you can push the limits of a game.
My man, don't know about your previous content before MGS but these two challenge runs have been very entertaining. Got a sub from me, and hope you can keep going.
It's crazy. The game is still silky smooth and super satisfying to play to this day. There aren't many modern stealth games I am a huge fan of, although I do really like the most recent hitman trilogy, but that's a d9fferent type of stealth to MGS2
I want to say while shooting out the bomb sensors on the shell 1-2 connecting bridge, you can use a second controller to move the flag to other side of the flag pole? Great video, I'm about half way through and enjoying it. I adore the MGS series so I'll be checking out more of your stuff down the line 👍
How do you not have more subs and views? Not dissing, more asking YT to sort it out; I was 15 when this came out, and watching these runs you do is amazing because you give love to 2 that's always been needed.
Skipping the "Raven?!" cutscene at 7:25 impresses me, I couldn't notice any cut or stutter and I'm certain it was a forced cutscene since it demonstrates the power of a lighting engine on PS2
I thought one of the Russian guards sounded oddly familiar, so I went to the VA cast for the game and and sure enough, one of the VA's for the Russian soldiers is one of the skyrim voice actors, Michael Gough
@@sirrando the timestamp I sent to a friend was 37:54 but almost every time a guard kinda noticed you it was the line recorded by Michael. He sounds identical to the Skyrim characters he voices
@@sirrando maybe it's the several hundred hours I've played of the game in the last few months but it just stuck out so strongly to me! I gotta wonder why the Russian soldiers have Scandinavian accents haha
@Sir Rando If you're open to suggestions for games, look into anything in the Deus Ex or Assassin's Creed series. Plenty of opportunities for unconventional playthroughs.
@@blaine1987 Deus Ex is a great shout, Im most familiar with Human revolution. Assassins creed is a weird one. I love a lot of the old games (1 up to about black flag are amazing, some of the later ones are pretty good and a bunch of stinkers later on) But I was struggling to find some way to change them up. I'm always open to suggestions!
@@blaine1987 Huh, that sounds interesting. Might hold onto that for the back burner. Only issue with that specifically is that Odyssey is around 45hrs to complete casually. at the moment thats a bit too much of a time commitment to getting everything done. Thats one of the reasons why i have been sticking to the 5th and 6th generation of games. But i will stretch out past that at some point
I have a couple of super cool runs planned. I have one lined up for MGS3 that is kinda wild. I am currently editing a stealth game challenge run from a different franchise. I would like to do splinter cell, not sure what restrictions I could add though, they are very linear and don't have the scope of tools that MGS has, but I would love to do one
Your skill at the game is undeniable, but 3 minutes into your 2 hour video and you answer your question. Would love to see you take on a more achievable challenge.
Recently found your channel. I really enjoy your commentary style where you will explain the strategy and then let the gameplay speak for itself. Your calm delivery method is really refreshing as I find some RU-vidrs can be very over the top... Keep up the awesome work!
I was so proud of myself when I beat MGS2 on E-EX as a teen haha 06/17/2011 … good times , the golden days of cod4 , ps2 classics and endless summer nights
Yiiiikes that restart sooooo far is was brutal, good on you for sticking to your goal though! Didn't know the box can hide you from Ciphers and that stuff with the Fission Mailed screen, really really cool! Great video!
Damn, i've been playing MGS2 for about 15 years now, had no idea you could destroy the vents in the president nikita section, you really never stop learning things about MGS
I feel like that was the case a few years ago. But with the narrative (especially the end of the game) getting even more relevant than it was at the time it is climbing up in people's ranking
