Octopath is a really good game, it's a shame there aren't more challenge runs of it! I was playing as blind as possible, so I didn't know you could steal soulstones. That would have made the [spoilers] fight so much easier. A combination of Alfyn's OP concoct ability for phase 1 and Dohter's Charity with the revitalizing jams I had stockpiled the whole game for phase 2 as well as, of course, Runelord Tressa (I had her for phase 2 on the winning run) helped me eventually beat it. The first phase took me lots of tries, but I actually beat the second phase the first time I got to it!

Copypasting this reply I made to another comment [SPOILER if you haven't watched video]: I have no hope for the second phase, but for the first phase I think there is a possible strategy that I didn't get to try (since got the idea after deleting my save). Said strategy would be to try and keep only 2 characters alive, and these two characters would be equipping elemental-resistance accessories to nullify 99% of the damage from Electrocute and Searing Orb. Both characters could be Apothecaries spamming Rehabilitate to block Contaminate as well. Finally, replace Divine Aura with Elemental Edge. Maybe with this strat one could survive the eye at 25% health consistently and kill it, but again I have nothing for Phase 2 besides perfect RNG from Divine Aura or unboosted Chubby Caits. I tried a similar challenge which I didn't allow myself to boost, but I got bored after like an hour XD And you did it without boosting AND breaking. Talk about some insane dedication. Little sidenote: I decided to do another challenge after that and I find that one to be really fun! Beating the game without using items (in battle and outside of battle). It's a pretty interesting challenge since I find myself relying on items a lot in this game.

I started the game a few days ago... I'm currently stuck at a boss, insanely underleveled and very confused, but I know exactly that after I struggled through the first time, my second time will be destruction in it's purest form. I'll put off watching this until I finish it...

This is an old video but: I’m amazed you had the patience for this! I’m a very strategy type person and would NOT be able to do the game without breaking or boosting. I’ve barely completed a few characters chapter 4’s, and that’s after 50 hours!

As I was watching i was curious if you were doing any advance jobs and said nah they are way to hard for a challenge like this then realized maybe just maybe runelord wass possible to get but ruled it. Good stuff though man on getting it done as well the the advanced job bosses

For any commenter wondering. Balogar phy attack is converted into elemental damage. That's why shackle foe would have been useful in the fight against him and why you should have elemental defense gear equiped if you plan on taking hits.

So I’ve started playing octopath traveller (regular style) and I came here to see how my party differs to a (more professional and good) players party. And it’s interesting to me because I’ve chosen to have Cyrus and therion in my party, but then have Alfyn and Tressa in my party, and then have the secondary jobs cover the classes that the primary jobs don’t (Tressa as a dancer, Cyrus as a cleric, Alfyn as a warrior and Therion as a hunter). Also I’ve now set my goal to be to get runemaster despite only just having beaten Teresa’s chapter 2.

I think you take an interesting approach. Most people who attempt challenges for games seem to make the plan before they play, and you just jump right in. Not necessarily bad, just different. I do recommend in challenges like this though you take a 'casual' playthrough and attempt the bossfight with whatever it is your challenge is supposed to be just to see if it's possible at all, so that you don't waste fifty million hours. People like challenges, but you could at least test it first to find out if it's possible and then not worry about spending four hours on one bods fight. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I had an idea for a small challenge if you did another video around challenges that couldn't get a full video: there's a tower defence game online called Stark tower defence, which is based on the super hero squad cartoon. A possible challenge could be trying to best that game without upgrading towers

That Olberic character, and him being used for defense, reminds me of a boss in a different game. "Obryk the Shield Warden" I believe he was called, in "Remnant: From the Ashes." The boss's gimmick was that most of him was armoured, or most of the time he would have his shield covering his body. Oh, and that he used aura damaging, and inflicted slow debuffs. And part of his gimmick is that he just hits very hard. He does a lot of damage per hit.

Merchant. Hired Help, even not boosted, is very useful. I'd have skipped over Cyrus, only gone for Scholar Shrine instead to get EM on a character, and grabbed Tressa and Merchant Shrine for two Hired Help users. The only trouble would be funding it when you need it, but if you're willing to spend time stealing 3% chance weapons, might as well try for the low chance sellable items as well.

I only beat this game with Tressa so far. This makes me want to go back, beat it with everyone else and unlock all the side classes. Plus the end game stuff after that that I've only heard exists - which is why I stopped watching around 20 mins mark. I love the combat and music so much!

Wow you actually made me enjoy a octopath travler video. Kudos to you for making me enjoy something i hate so much, you're now one of my favorite content creators.

I watched this assuming that Soulstones would be the main source of damage and that would end up making Darius the hardest boss in the game because of him stealing your items, but the Runes were a nice surprise. Although, one question: did you consider utilizing Summons with Ophilia and Primrose? With the levels you had at the end, you would be able to easily get a Strength 10 NPC with both of them. Though, the random targeting would probably cause issues, so maybe that's why I never saw them used.

At 24:58 you were lucky but at the same time not. Having either the Red Eye or the Omniscent Eye to petrify one of your party members is extremely rare and I don't know the anyone that has had one petrifyed, even in the Octopath subreddit (I know there's some that did get petrifyed, but none I know have). Edit: Spelling
