Small headcanon/theory: This happens after the events of the Pikmin 2 extinction/0 treasure timeline. Olimar developed his philosophies after his wife ditched him for Ricardo, and his genocidal nature carried into his dating advice of eliminating the competition. Olimar, instead of using the 10,000 pokos to repay the debt, instead used it for himself to forge Olimar Enterprises, thus leaving his former company in shambles and the President buried in a shallow grave by debt collectors.

I always assumed the reason they were called winged and rock pikmin was because they were discovered by a different set of explorers with a different naming scheme, but then, Olimar did canonically find them first so 🤔
