I find it hilarious that Young Link's height was a problem for 95% of this playthrough except for the final boss. Like sure, the kid can't reach easy platforms but he takes down a demon pig no problem. He is a force to be feared
It is funny to see obstacles meant for adult Link be completely non-issues for child, like the spinning blades in Shadow Temple are too tall to hit him
Hey, if it's one thing Link is good at besides pot breaking, it's killing demon pigs as little kids. Just look at the original loz game and Wind Waker, those kids don't fuck around.
Moral of the story: Young Link at the tender age of 10 was just as capable of a hero, by really underestimating him the Golden Goddesses made a huge oopsie with timeline splits, floods, twilight etc.
@@Estarile what? Adult link is 17, -7 since characters say thats how long he was gone for, means child link is 10 If he were 7 that would make adult link only 14
As a kid, i never figured out how to get the goron tunic, so i somehow beat the fire temple with just the kokiri tunic through sheer stubbornness thinking it was the intended way
@@Davian2073 honestly i cant really remember exactly how i did it. I was definitely not skilled enough for megaflips as i was just a kid. I'll see if i can replicate it at some point
That cutscene is the only diaogue that looks out of place with normal name. I wish that the file name was programmed to be all capitalized too. "CURSE YOU Link" doesn't sound as angry as "CURSE YOU LINK".
The entire run is impossible without glitches, therefore ANY glitch is considered necessary. You literally cannot enter any of the “adult Link” dungeons and complete them without glitches. Plus in order to set up some glitches later on he has to perform other glitches as child Link, including the very first dungeon of the game. Without those glitches in the first dungeon the run goes absolutely nowhere.
@@tacohut555I think he means he completed specific sections "legitimately" even though he could have used Glitches to make his life easier which would however come at the cost of Enjoyability.
Beating phantom ganon so easily with the boomerang is quite hilarious, not to mention the ganon's fight going under him by just running by. It looks like young Link was quite the hero!
17:48 Great video, but there's a minor detail you missed. You don't actually need Fire Arrows to detonate a bombflower. You can actually use regular arrows. Doesn't matter for this run since you can't use either, just thought I'd point that out.
Actually, you _can_ use the Bow as Young Link by using the Equip Swap glitch. For some reason it uses Slingshot ammo, but the projectiles you fire are still arrows, not Slingshot bullets. EDIT: actually, I was misremembering something, when you equip swap the bow, you do just shoot slingshot bullets. I might have been thinking of being able to shoot magic arrows, but I don't remember how that works at all.
In areas with a heat-timer, if you’re in mid-air (e.g. falling down the shaft outside of Fire Temple), you can press the button that ocarina is assigned to, which will temporarily freeze the timer until you land on the ground. That would help out with the tight timing in that area :)
As a programmer, I find it very impressive they never had e.g. "if LensOfTruthEquipped { BongoBongoDamageable = true }" lines, which would perhaps make the game much easier to debug or in general simplify the game logic. Instead, they kept the capability of the items as well as the fact that certain enemies can be damaged or areas accessed separate, in accordance with the lore logic. I get the impression today in non-sandbox games, this isn't typical anymore.
@@LilacMonarcheven a rattata (level 1) 1. Equip it with focus band (prevents to fainting with 1 hit) 2. It must know: Endeavor: leaves the opponent at your same HP Quick attack: no explanation needed. This works like this: Turn 1: mewtwo will hit you and leave you at 1 hp because of focus band, you use endeavor and leave it at 1 hp Turn 2: you use quick attack, since it has priority, you'll hit mewtwo first, fainting him.
If you want to do Shadow as child again, there's a jumpslash clip from the cage to the ferry. You might also want to look up OOT Max Bosses as Child and OOT Max% Child to see other strats that speedrunners use for a similar kind of route you did. And Defeat Ganon No SRM for the endgame portion. Interesting vid though.
Meanwhile Speedrunners: Wrong Warp to castle > Beat Ganon. Lol very cool to see an actual in order progression of ways to actually beat the entire game as young link. Kudos to you, sir.
I remember seeing something where if you like deathwarp as you collect the medallions it negates the cutscenes but I think it was pretty involved to set up.
@@MandatoryPixel Is the same as the wrong warp you did from Gohma to Ganon's Castle, but instead of crossing the door you just die from a bomb. Each blue warp has his own setup. They take a while to learn if you are not used to them. The only special one is in Jabu because Ruto is on the middle of the warp and you need to do a longer setup, but that one is not necessary for your run as you can just watch de cutscene
That's common to see in max% child as it's the only way to obtain the medallions without crashing ZFG has done plenty of max% child runs if you wanna know every possibility item thats collectable as child only
For 25 years, i had never heard anyone pronounce ocarina like ocaraina, until this week when I've seen videos from three different people pronouncing it that way and now I've just spent half an hour down the rabbit hole of pronunciation variations. But also i love this video and this isn't a criticism, I was just surprised to hear a different pronunciation by so many people so recently!
Lol I'm sorry! I was genuinely interested by the different pronunciations 🥲 didn't realize others had pointed it out as well, although I did catch the emphasis in your most recent video 😅
Fun fact! Void points are effectively "floors" so the bridge in the Shadow Temple can actually be blown up by a properly angled Bombchu. It's incredibly precise and irritating, but it's doable.
Probably not, without some glitches... How does Young Link deal with the Water Temple or the Fire Temple? Like, the timer for hot areas and being underwater; It's dependent on how many hearts you have...
Not without glitches but with glitches, then yeah, you can. Just leave the forest without deku and do child stuff, then skip master sword and glitch into the adult dungeons with ISG cause as they said every dungeon exist in both eras. Leaving deku for the last temple let's you wrong warp to either the final fight, castle escape or trials, and occasionally the tennis battle with Ganondorf.
Beating Ocarina of Time as only Young Link? Truly an endeavor for the most dedicated and slightly masochistic gamers among us. Your perseverance and mastery of glitches are genuinely impressive. The infinite sword glitch and bomb hover tricks? Chef's kiss. But, darling, let's be real - this challenge sounds like pure agony at times. The endless hovering, precise glitches, and dealing with timers in the Fire Temple? Only someone with unyielding patience (or a love for suffering) would dare try this. And let’s not forget the Shadow and Spirit Temple hurdles, proving once again that not all heroes wear capes; some wield slingshots and deku sticks. The grand finale with Ganon was spectacular, and seeing Young Link triumph with that tiny but mighty frame was the perfect end to this arduous quest. Would I recommend this to my subjects? Absolutely not. But watching you conquer it? Pure entertainment. Kudos to you for pushing through and showing us what true gaming dedication looks like.
Thank you! I tried to give a brief description of each glitch so people wouldn't be completely lost, but I didn't think people would actually be able to perform them off of my brief explanations. That's cool!
10:58 yeah the Adult Link cutscences always load you into the Adult Link version of the map after successfully completion. Some of them can handle child Link and some end up looking like that. 28:13 the Child Master sword is actually used in debug mod and it's hard to notice in the Ganon fight but it has a triforce symbol on it instead of the kokir emerald. Sadge no funny Adult Link in child era glitch ending cutscence 😅 Side note: ARC requires a lot of understanding with coding or just knowing the game extremely well it's cool though cause equipping the mirror sheild as child with it let's you hold it like normal also you can equip the child master sword and sometimes warp into the Adult temple of time to activate the light arrow scene. I even think you could get Link in the Adult era hyrule for a bit. It a lot.
3:10 I can't imagine what was going through Saria's mind during this part as she watched Link repeatedly blow himself up with bombs and slowly levitate into the air.
By Young Link’s time in the story, the temples were clear of monsters and bosses with the exception of the Shadow and Spirit Temples. The sages were still dormant until the time came to awaken them and Ganondorf was out chasing little girls instead of ruling the kingdom. Narratively, young Link clearing the temples wouldn’t work, unless OoT Rauru woke Link up one year into his sleep instead of seven. How this would work instead is interesting, though for this game, good luck.

That does sound like fun! I actually only learned about the Equip Swap glitch while making this video, so it would probably be fun to mess around with sometime.
🤔 - Hmmm... What about the Water Temple? > Not able being to dive into the deeper water nor the area with the cage that release enemies underwater... 17:48 - 17:52 ---> You don't need FIRE arrows; You have fire an arrow or in this case, use Bombchus to blow the bombs up to get across the pillar over the gap...
This is really cool, I thought you might be interested to know that in the Ganondorf fight you don't need to use the sword to deflect his attacks. In fact, an empty bottle is actually more efficient than the master sword due to the animation of swinging a bottle being marginally quicker. Great video man, subscribing right now, hope to see more like this
I was familiar with that bottle trick, but I've never actually tried it so I thought learning the new timing might mess me up, haha. Thanks for subscribing!
I would save the Volvagia fight until after you RBA the Spirit and Shadow Medallions, that way you can get the Fire Medallion without it being removed. Then you can have all the medallions (besides Light but no one cares about Light Medallion) Also, it might be interesting to see how much more of the Water Temple you can do with out of bounds clips and diving with the Gold Scale.
That definitely would've been cool! As you might've guessed from the video, this was my first time doing a lot of these glitches, so although I knew about RBA, I didn't know the specifics. I might've tried to do Volvagia last if I did!
Thanks for putting in all this effort! I love seeing this game in new ways. I've been playing it since 1999 and feel like I've seen it all, but more things keep popping up. Fascinating video, thank you!
This was so interesting to watch! This vid needs more views man! I am really impressed with this journey you had completing the game as young link, that was damn epic! 👏👏
It's really strange that at some point the game doesn't just assume you're adult link now and just load that regardless. The fact it just honours your status makes me wonder if the devs just left it like that with a "I wonder if someone will try it"
If you ever feel like attempting this again, you can get your health down to 1/16th of a heart (Each quarter heart has hidden values), and the game can't deal with that small of a health value for lava timers, so theyll just never start. There's a pretty precise method of using fire damage that allows you to get your health down just the perfect amount
@@trompette4485 it WAS on the Wii. You were able to purchase various old titles on the eShop. I still have Ocarina of Time, the original Super Mario Bros., and even a Bomberman title on my Wii
@@trompette4485 Rereleased on the Wii Shop Channel as part of Virtual Console. Also, if you had backwards compatible Wii, GameCube controllers and the Zelda Collector's edition disk or master quest you could play through that
I learned about that while making this video, but most people aren't going to be familiar with things like speedrun extension categories! A video like this is made for a wider audience, which is why I explained how to perform glitches that speedrunners would already be familiar with.
@@MandatoryPixel oh im not trying to 'correct' you or anything...im just sayin, for those "just in case" people that dont know...like, if they want to see More, that would be where to look...
Max Child Bosses is also a really cool extension category that does a lot of the coolest parts of max% without making you you do an hour long guay hover.
@@rtyuik7 When you put several dots at the end of a sentence that usually indicates irritation or that the person you address should have found something to be obvious. At least many people are going to interpret it that way.
This video is literal prof that if you are short you can overcome any challenge if they have enough bombs. What a great life lesson, like stop asking us tall people to reach tall shelves for you, just pull out your bombs and do it yourself.
I love old games that are so broken you can execute whatever lines of code you want AS THE PLAYER as an amateur coder it makes me feel like God to execute code in any game I make or play. In a way, it's an accurate feeling
i clicked on this video expecting the intro to be a classic "Here's what we're going to do, and oh no it's going to be difficult because etc etc." what i got: "The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time is the classic tale of a young boy growing up to be a drink salesman." well shit looks like i actually have to finish the video.
It's honestly interesting that the devs clearly programmed cutscenes with the bosses from the second half *with the possibility that you'd be young link in mind*
I think it's more that the cutscenes simply apply animations to Link, which work whether you're Adult or Young Link. I don't think the cutscenes were designed with Young Link in mind, but they do work with him!
6:20 - your hearts are actually measured in 1/8 portions, but displayed as 1/4 If you have only 1/8 health left (by timing when you are on fire) timers for heat or being underwater do not start. Of course, you can die easily from enemies during this, but at the very least the timer won’t be present
Huge respect for bpmb hovering up to forest temple. I've been running oot for years now but I never honstely tried incorparating bhovers into my runs except for epona early and water temple boss key skip. The actual hover like in mm is way to brutal for me, even with all that experience so hats off for you sir
Haha, thank you! Admittedly, I did use suspend points as mentioned at the start of the video, so that helped. 😆 They're a lot easier to do in Majora's Mask if you want to practice them there though!
Pretty sure this is just the old any% with extra steps. The medallions didn’t really matter in the end and you just glitched one of them in anyway. The whole concept is kind of moot because at the end of the day, like you said, you can just use glitches to do anything you want. That being said… this was still entertaining to watch, and a fun thought experiment. It gets a like from me.
10:28 so the reason you could damage Volvagia there is because of the flying hitbox and the "Wack a mole" hitbox being seperate. They both exist as 2 different hurtboxes in the room, it is just stored below the ground under that hole.
Amazing job! That's great! I myself beated the Goron temple in Majora's Mask without using the sit-attack, but what you did is on a totally different level there my friend!
This was fun to watch. And it kinda makes me want to actually write that AU I never did where Link is a Kokiri who was raised as a Hylian and he has to deal with his entire adventure as a child
I learned in another video that the timer won't spawn if you take lava/residual damage until you have 1/16 of a heart. It won't spawn if the timer is supposed to be at only 1 second. You wouldn't be able to take any damage though.
19:31 The ground on the sand next to the tower is solid you can sidehop to it from the top of the watch tower thingie if make it go between the gap of where the ladder is in the fence as child link, to just hop over to the desert area from there
Dude this is incredible, I applaud your efforts and enjoyed watching this! I laughed when phantom ganon was clueless in how to handle the boomerang haha
11:08 you were placed in the upper crater, but with the lower part (where the fire temple entrance is) loaded. A lot of rooms are split up into multiple chunks that only load in when you get close/in view I.E. the great deku tree part of kokiri forest is a separate chunk from the main area. Same with upper/lower zoras river
ZSR, I love it! If you're in the air and try to use a cutscene item like ocarina or a trade sequence item, the timer pauses. Volv's hitbox gets stored there because there's actually two different Volvs, one that flies and one that plays whack-a-mole. Both can be damaged (you can shoot the flier) and share the same health pool. No need to go all the way through Shadow Temple, you can just skip directly to the ship by clipping the shortcut. The setup isn't even that complicated. Gerudo's Fortress without cuccoo jump? Boo! Fun vid, now do a Max% child run.
Assuming "only adult Link" means immediately forest escape and DoT skip to become adult as soon as possible, kind of. You can play through most of the game without issues, you can even get into Deku and Jabu by clipping into the tree and ice respectively since the loading zones are still there. However since Zelda's Lullaby is obtained as child, you won't have it and it's required to use Light Arrows, which are required to beat Ganondorf. I'm sure there's a way to work around this, but at the very least you can clip down to the bottom of Deku and wrong warp to tower collapse
@@LilacMonarchcan’t you just do the Ganondorf skip like he did in this game? Just don’t grab the Kokiri emerald and do the warp thing to Ganons castle escape
If only you had gotten the Fire Medallion after doing that glitch to get the Forest and Spirit medallions. Then you would have had them all except the Light Medallion.
It's interesting that they implemented a system where the timer increases based on your number of hearts even though they never intended for you to do it without the tunic.
