To anyone that watched the video and is reading this comment: THANK YOU SO MUCH!! These styles of scripted videos are so far from the norm for me and this channel, so thank you for bearing with me as I attempt to improve little by little. I have a LONG long way to go before I will feel satisfied with my scripting, but overall I am proud of the product that I did produce. This challenge was very very tough for me, even with how much I love Ocarina of Time. Honestly, for top tier speedrunners of this game, this challenge would probably be a piece of cake. However as someone that does NOT speedrun this game it took a lot of time and energy to complete. To those that were in the streams and were along for the ride with me, thank you for your support!! Lastly, please do yourself a favor and be sure to check out the channels I mentioned in the video and linked in the description below....you won't be disappointed and they deserve your support!! :D
This video encouraged me to play oot 3d and 100% it for the first time. Thank you for giving me this triforce of courage, wisdom, and power. It gives me hope. Even though I won't do it rupeeless, I still feel as though I can do it.
The reason the Light Arrow cutscene played early is because you had the Shadow and Spirit medallions. The devs expected it to be impossible to do this without grabbing the Forest, Fire and Water medallions first, so the cutscene only checks for Shadow and Spirit. As for Ganon's Castle, it only checks that you have Light Arrows in your inventory.
the thing that I find funny is the fact that it was proven that you could complete the spirit temple and shadow temple early back when there was a demo on the smash copy and the devs never thought to change it
@@lukemarshall87They didn't change anything because there's no reason to It won't make any difference to normal players, and the players it will make a difference to will be a negative one
@@eggs8021I mean there's a version of sm64 that patches out blj and they also banned people for using glitches in Mario maker levels, so I wouldn't put it past Nintendo, they can be real jerks about glitches sometimes.
Rainbow Bridge forms only if you have the light arrows. Light arrow cutscene only plays if you have the Shadow and Spirit medallions and those are the only ones you need. Randomizer knowledge, son!
think most randomizer players play with the ruleset of that the rainbow bridge requires all 6 medallions (or open's ganon castle aka requiring none) so didn't know that it only required the light arrows. Though did know light arrows only require shadow and spirit cause of it
@@ls190v2 Well duh. That knowledge _had_ to already be known in order for it to be included in the logic of randomizers. I don't think they're claiming that the literal origin is from randomizers. It's just thanks to randomizers that this is now fairly _common_ knowledge.
@megarotom1590 I've never randoed Zelda but Open Ganons castle probably since his castle does have checks. In Prime the only reason we don't have Crater or Sky Temple open is because they are no checks in those places
I didn't grow up in the 90s, I grew up in the 2000s, but this game still holds a very dear place in my heart. I grew up playing this with my father on the N64. Those are some of my fondest memories, and now that I have it on the 3DS, I can relive them.
Actually, the light arrows' scene pulls out because everytime you enter the Temple of Time the game only checks if you have the last 2 medallions, not all 6. If you have them, then the game gives you the light arrows. It was used in the any% before the wrong warp was discovered
yeah, the game generally doesnt use multirequirements and is instead scripted linear.however, there is one exception that i know of....the oot cutscene doesnt spawn unless you have all gemstones.if you lack the kokiri emerald, then it just wont trigger.......which is weird, since i recall not needing it in oot3d,so they actually took that one out when rebuilding the game lol
its also possible in oot3d,just that its one time only and the chance is over if you already went into the zitadelle once on the save.the positive foe that game is that you can just port back to the mastersword if you act smart.
Okay, for those who don’t know, you’re able to obtain a Hylian Shield beneath one of the tombstones in the Graveyard. I’ve seen a ton of comments asking about that.
Same. I thought it was common knowledge that the Hylian Shield was in the graveyard but I guess I was wrong. I always get the Hylian Shield in the graveyard.
ThunderDragonRandy I know it's at the graveyard but I always buy it just because it's faster I mean you get 60 rupees in such a small amount of time with the bridge anyway
Yeah, you'd be forced to do the barrier skip. Other than that, though, you probably wouldn't have any issues, since WW doesn't force you into buying any items and doesn't have silver rupees (well, it does have silver rupees. Just not that kind of silver rupee). The only thing that could screw you is if there's a rupee lying inside a passage that you need to crawl through. I forget if there's anywhere like that though.
@@lasatar6428 Superswim requires the wind waker, which is given to us by the King of Red Lion on Dragon Roost Island ... Which cannot be accessed without the sail. xD
I am very familiar with the wrong warp in this game however it's super hard to pull off...I figured it would be more fun to attempt as many dungeons as I could than to spend hours trying to pull off one glitch :D But yeah that is definitely an option people could take for rupeeless!
Well yeah. That's generally how people advance in games without following the set path and gathering the required items. Like. That's a LOT of speedruns in a nutshell
@@hauntedhorrorberry I dunno. I guess I kind of equated it to something similar, because different categories have certain rules. Anyway, my point was that if you want to advance in a game without getting things you're "required" to get, yeah, a lot of times you gotta use glitches
@@tgrady2570 In a glitch free game you do NOT need the Blue Tunic, more than the one bottle with the note in it, Epona, the Lens of Truth, the Sun Song, heart containers (only three hearts the whole game), gold skulltulas, any spells other than Din's Fire, the Song of Storms, Deku Nuts, upgrades of any kind, bombchus, and maybe a couple other things that I can't remember from my minimalist game about 15 years ago. You DO need to collect a fairy in your bottle to get through the Water Temple with only three hearts and sans tunic and boots. Edit: I wrote this before I read the next set of posts and then felt silly for not having this there instead. Oh well.
@@ls190v2and the zora swimming was definitely downgraded. Overall though it was a great and well polished revisit to such an awesome adventure. I played the n64 version recently followed by the 3DS remake and that really helped me appreciate all the quality of life changes that were made.
Ive seen it tons of times and the only time i tried it (without researching exactly how to do it) i got surprised at just how damn hard it was and how easy speed runners made it look
to be fair, you probly never noticed the "Silver Rupee = 5 Rupees" bit as a kid because your wallet was already full...i know mine always had the Green (full) number next to it, because its so easy to make money in the game...
I did your challenge Dave! I speedrun the game so it was a different kind of challenge, but lots of fun! The route I took was: get the sword, clip into the load zone to zora's river in lost woods, go down zora's river without collecting any rupees, get bottle in kakariko, get shield in the well, and then I did a normal any% speedrun route (beat Gohma, wrong warp to Ganon's castle, kill pig) it took me 34 minutes and 22 seconds and was lots of fun! I'd love to see more zelda challenge videos on your channel! You should try the minimalist challenge, where you get as few items as possible while still being able to beat the game without glitches! Also sidenote: the reason you got light arrows early is because the game only checks for the last 2 medallions (shadow and spirit) and assumes you have the rest if you have them.
@@mokeydudester I don't think he's referring to this set up as being without glitches but rather suggesting he do a run of the game without glitches while collecting as few things as possible.
@@mokeydudester yeah like Jalechah said, I used glitches in this route, I was suggesting a different challenge playthrough without glitches. I think theres rules for it online somewhere showing which items you're allowed to get. For bonus points you're supposed to fight ganon with iron boots on iirc. I did it like 8 years ago and I remember some rooms are almost like new puzzles to solve without things you normally have.
oc·a·ri·na /ˌäkəˈrēnə/ noun a small egg-shaped wind instrument with a mouthpiece and holes for the fingers. Note the pronunciation. He said it correctly.
I used to pronounce is Sah-rye-ah, but switched to Sah-ree-ah (like Daria) after a few years. Used to pronounce it Gore-on, but switched to Gore-un. Used to pronounce it Dee-koo but switched to Day-koo. People pronounce things differently - ecpecially works of fiction. I've noticed a lot of people pronounce Hylian as High-lee-un, but I still pronounce it the way I always have: Hill-ee-un, with a soft "y" sound. Etymologically, it _should_ be Hill-ee-un, as the game is based on European tales and history; Hylia should be pronounced with a soft "y". That said, again, it's fantasy so everyone should feel free to pronounce anything however they wish :) Hell, someone could say Zah-ra, if they wanted, with a soft "o" sound, instead of Zore-ah. Some people say Jeh-roo-do, with a soft "g"; others say Gah-roo-do, with a hard "G". The point is, don't be a dick for how someone pronounces a fantasy character.
But, the simple answer is: no; you can't. Unless you cheat like crazy, it's impossible. As someone who doesn't abide glitches whatsoever, I consider this a fail and the OP is circumventing these things by glitching, which undermines the entire point of the challenge. Call me a killjoy, but I'm validated in my position.
Oh goodness me...I really enjoy Majora's Mask, but I am not even remotely as familiar with it as Ocarina of Time. But I won't say no, I'll add it to my list of possible challenge I want to tackle!!
I just beat Stone Tower Temple and completed Anju and Kafei's quest. I have one mask I'm missing and then I'll go to the final boss! Can't wait to see how it all goes down! So far I've loved Majora's Mask, although the dungeons (specifically Stone Tower and Water Temple), gave me a headache.
@@aienma6660 The mask of truth in that one Skulltulla house, I believe. Yes, I did Anju and Kafei's 3 times because the first time I failed, and then the next 2 times I got the bottle and the Postman's hat.
@@The24thWight Uh... Not really...? I mean, in Japanese, (you know, the original language of the Zelda series,) her name is written "サリア" (Sa-ri-a) so yeah, I really dunno how "Saraya" is a more sensical pronounciation...
@@The24thWight That you like it better, I can accept. That you think it makes more sense, I cannot. Neither can I accept that you think that you liking something has any bearing on whether it makes sense or not.
You could skip most of the child phase with DoT skip. The no IM/WW route with very minor adjustments is probably the easiest way to do this. If you only perform the necessary glitches it is reasonably easy. Quick summary: kokiri sword -> forest escape -> navi dive in well -> bombchus with vine clip-> Zeldas Lullaby -> Door of Time skip -> adult -> hookshot in kak -> hylian shield from shield grave -> early shadow with hookshot jump (its so much simpler than hovering) -> shadow -> dc --> bombs -> magic from great fairy -> minuet (mido skip) -> spirit -> forest -> bow -> light arrows in ToT -> ganons castle -> trials skip -> gg

I don't think I ever noticed the silver rupees added anything because I probably was always at max by that point. Had bought everything I needed to already.
"If we didn't have glitches at our disposal, we wouldn't be able to do Ganon's Tower." - More like, "If we didn't have glitches we couldn't do this run at all." xD

Murp Inc. you’re forgetting that there are many ways to pronounce things and everyone has their own way of pronouncing a word. Like most people say “Nike” is Nykee Or “Adidas” is “Adeedas” But if that’s the only thing you’re going to say about this video, then your expectations are incredibly low jesus.
A friend of mine made The Legend of Smelda: Macarena of Time many years ago. I think he stiil has it in the TatsuSoft graveyard of his TwinSky Games website.
well from my understanding is that you only need the shadow and spirit medallion to the light arrows and to get into ganons tower that is unless you use wrong warp glitch then you don't need any of them
"Without getting too technical, [bomb hovering] is hard but doable" My sentiment exactly after playing Majora's Mask randomizer. Yet when I watch bingo they do that shit constantly no problem. I feel like you can easily tell whether someone is a speedrunner or a scrub by how easily they can bomb hover.
Im an ocarina of time player and I've done enough randomizers to say, The game only checks for shadow and sprit medallions. This is because you need the forest fire and water to get nocturne of shadow and longshot, and long shot is expected for haunted wasteland and the nocturne is expected for well, shadow temple. So the game only checks for shadow and spirt medallions.
I feel like without stating that the run has glitches in the title of the video, it misses the point of the crowd it attracts. For the no coin runs in Mario, they dont use glitches for most of the kind of runs, just ingame, built in mechanics. Is it a big deal? Not really, but you could also be like "Can you beat OOT in 5 or so mins?" Then proceed to explain a glitch on how to do it. You can assume that the run used glitches cause it isnt feasible to do without them, where as "Can you beat OOT without collecting any Rupees?" Sounds like something you COULD do without glitches until you remember the wooden shield. Also, as a side note, could have included a "Required Rupees" Counter for those wanting to know the required minimum if it wasnt possible to do it without glitches. Just offering an opinion o/
Well, in his defense Zelda's game design is very different from Mario's, since in the latter coins aren't a form of currency, and progression isn't dependent in items that may or not be obtained via use of a currency system. Well, but of course there should be some more rules to this run like "minimum usage of glitches" or something like that. In that aspect I agree that It would make the video more compelling.
Not sure if anyone else has said this already, but... The reason the Light arrows and the bridge showed up (I learned this from randomizers) is because one of the flags the game checks for is "Does have Shadow and Spirit Medallions? If yes, Light arrows. If no, no Light Arrows It's like how, even playing vanilla, you can beat the Fire and Water Temples, but not Forest, and you cannot go back to being a child. The Forest Medallion triggers another flag, to give the player Prelude of Light as well as allowing you to go back to childhood. Or needing all three (Forest, Fire, Water) to trigger Kakariko burning
the reason you got the light arrows when you warped back to the temple of time is for what ever reason the game fails to check for any medallions except for the shadow and spirit ones
I can explain the thing with the Light Arrows. The requirement for the cutscene to trigger is to have the Spirit and Shadow Medallions, and the trigger for the bridge cutscene is to watch the Light Arrow cutscene.
The reason the Light Arrow and Bridge Cutscenes happened without the Water Medallion is that the game only checks for possession of the Shadow and Spirit Medallions to have those cutscenes happen
bc ther clickbait title wouldnt work otherwise. you have to make exceptions to the rule you setup to make them work, and he glitched and used cheating strats anyways, so this entire video ( and every single other one liek it ) was a complete waste.
@@tree_alone red coins count towards your 100 coin star in every level in mario 64. go fly a kite, and stop defending this clickbaiting cheater. thanks.
@@TemmiePlays lol wut yeah exactly what I communicated in my post... red coins count to your coin count, but they are also a fixed amount set to trigger the solution to a puzzle. also cmon man i think playing the game til it's broken is what keeps it interesting.
@@tree_alone by cheating and lying in your video's title? yeah, sure thing. I guess " but silver rupees don't count because I said so " didnt fit in the title, eh? shove off, matey
The game only checks for the Shadow and Spirit medallions to trigger the Light Arrow cutscene and enable the Ganon's Castle bridge. This is because you're not supposed to be able to do these temples without finishing the others. The scene where you learn the Nocturne of Shadow will only trigger once you've beaten the Fire and Water temples, and you're not supposed to be able to get into the Shadow Temple without it. The Spirit Temple requires going back in time, which is unlocked by beating the Forest Temple. Sheik will only move away from the Pedestal of Time (and teach you the Prelude of Light) once you do. Later versions of the game, such as the 3DS remake, actually check for all the medallions.
Just in case you're curious, the water temple boss door clip wouldn't work for you because you need to sidehop with the hover boots equipped, but then pause and equip normal boots, and then jump slash to clip through the door. This is because Link has greater momentum when he has the normal boots equipped, and less momentum when he has the hover boots equipped. The reason you sidehop with the hover boots is to make sure you don't sidehop too far, and you equip the normal boots so that you go as far forward as possible to make the clip possible. I think you might've also been too high; I believe you only need to hover 4 times to get that clip to work.
"Real Hardware" PUH-leese, if it was REAL hardware, you woulda used cartridge tilting to get past Mido, instead of complicating things by sequence breaking. 0/10 unnecessary drama
Fun fact: the reason why the Light Arrow cutscene played out after completing the Spirit Temple is because the game only checks to see if you have the Spirit and Shadow Medallions upon entering the Temple of Time, acting as a kind of trigger. The game's logic being that if you have those two medallions odds are you have the rest! I've been following speedrunning for a while now so as soon as I saw that you got the Spirit Medallion I was like "oh you don't even need to beat the Water Temple!" So cool to see you complete this challenge, props to you my guy!
@@doctorfluffnstuff403 pretty sure you just needed zelda's letter. He offers you a discount for one if you do the keeton mask quest though. Apparently via the zelda wiki you can get one for free in a grave in kakariko.
the reason you got the light arrow cut scene is because as long as you have the last two medallions, the game assumes you have to have all the other ones.
Personally, I simply wouldn't consider the silver Rupees to be Rupees for the purpose of the challenge. They're first and foremost parts of the game's puzzles/challenges, and should be considered no different to any other. As for the Rupees they add to your wallet, simply ignore and don't buy anything with them.
