Melissa McCarthy stars in the adaptation of the memoir CAN YOU EVER FORGIVE ME?, the true story of best-selling celebrity biographer (and friend to cats) Lee Israel (Melissa McCarthy) who made her living in the 1970’s and 80’s profiling the likes of Katharine Hepburn, Tallulah Bankhead, Estee Lauder and journalist Dorothy Kilgallen. When Lee is no longer able to get published because she has fallen out of step with current tastes, she turns her art form to deception, abetted by her loyal friend Jack (Richard E. Grant).

Never once do you see Melissa McCarthy "act." She is this woman. And Jane Curtin is extraordinary as well.

What was amazing about Melissas performance is she took a quite unlikeable character that did bad things and somehow you had sympathy for her and you still liked her

Actually that was on the script, the whole point of the film is to make her into a hero.

And not everyone would agree i was in the theatre and a woman walked out of the screening clearly not liking her. I thought it was amazing performance. But i wouldnt say they play her as a hero shes a flawed character like all of us.

I really like this movie, it's about a felon but her reasons were understandable in this film. Hating ones own voice but loving ones talent of imitating great authors. The struggle is so relatable. One of the few films with gay characters that I love to watch.

I bet ya, Disney saw this and wanted Melissa to play Ursula. Because Melissa really nailed it on this movie. The facial expression, body language, and that voice of her just sounds anger and evil

How would the font and ink (especially given the age) match up?

Yes, on the first try, that's very unrealistic, but going into the amount of detailed effort it would take even to line up the paper correctly would have slowed the narrative to a crawl. It's later illustrated well by her acquisition of multiple typewriters, aged paper, etc.
