Saw it today - didn't want it to end as it's an enthralling, nuanced story, sad, funny, bittersweet with a very strong cast. Definitely a Richard E film rather than a Chris O'Dowd film.
Great review. I just saw this as it 's now on HBO. The acting, writing, casting, and everything about the film is incredible. It's also so real and different then most dramatic films and I love it. What you said is so true - she finds her own voice by imitating the voices of other peoples.
Watched the movie. ....absolutely WONDERFUL MOVIE. ...I love her friend JACK. ....HIS CHARACTER IS PHENOMENAL. ......😂😂😂😂😂....I WISH I HAD A FRIEND LIKE HIM......
I can't figure out why the whole "comedian as dramatic actor" thing is still a talking point. It's not as if McCarthy is the first. Hell, she may not even be in the top 100!
It has its moments..but not as engaging as I hoped. That said, I Adore Richard E Grant..& will watch anything he's in- and he chews up the scenary in this.. he's fab!
Melissa McCarthy only has herself to blame when people write that her acting is a revelation as she has acted in some bad movies in the past few years.
I heard from others that this film wasn't all that.... Though I do enjoy the idea of seeing Richard "Emergency" Grant donning the guise of a conman again
