There's another popular softlock in B/W! In Drayden's gym, there's a specific tile that you can surf on, the only issue is that you can't get off. If you save there, you're there forever.
Nice job referencing Pikasprey's "Soft Lock Picking" series. Where he tries to find ways in games (Pokemon being the games in the majority of those videos) to get permanently trapped with no way to progress. Usually by exploiting intended mechanics in unintended ways. It's my favorite series of his to watch
That's honestly how I discovered his channel. Back when RU-vid was actually good at recommendations and not videos I already watched/ trending videos I could care less about.
What's funny about a lot of these softlocks is that just giving the player a "pity" pokeball if they have no money or other balls would fix almost all of them but I guess they never thought of that
Right, they could just have the pokemart guy check if you have any money or pokeballs, and if the player has neither, they give the player a "promotional" gift.
I got softlocked in Sun/Moon once as well. When defeating Guzma and Team Skull in Aether Paradise, if you fly back to an island to heal, there is no way to go back to Aether Paradise to continue the story- softlocking you to either Melemele, Akala or Ulaula islands.
A little note on the methods mentioned for gen 6 - As the event disks were considered for gen 3, it is also important that the person in gen 6 does not have access to Pokemon Bank, which would make picking the softlock significantly easier, as you can put pokemon in the PC at any point, allowing migration of a pokemon that knows Surf or Fly. This makes it impossible to fully prevent the standard methods of removing HMs whilst still having access to the PC impossible, as any HM you could've used prior to the softlock can still be used if obtained through this method. Of course this requires having a pokemon in the pokemon bank that has the move.
This isn't as much an issue now as the only way to have Pokebank on your 3ds is to already have it there or more "yar har" methods. Just make sure that they game was purchased digitally on a 3ds that didn't also download Pokebank. Though, that's even more unlikely than a 3ds not having Pokebank.
@@Dw7freaki thought that despite the eshop closing it was still possible to have transfers from 3DS to switch or aomething, the app was still available to get.
@@unkindled6410 Yes, as long as you "have the app". You cannot download any apps on the 3ds that you haven't purchased/downloaded before. As such, if you didn't claim Pokemon Bank or Pokemon Transporter before the eshop closure, you can never get it through legitimate means.
in honor of the fan hobby of dooming save files, gamefreak could add an npc that looks almost exactly like the player, and this npc will explain that they went here and did some stupid things -while drunk- for a dare and they couldnt leave so they started living there, got married, and didnt feel like leaving anymore. said npc then is also a sneaky anti-stuck measure by having a helpful abra or gives items
Fun fact, that softlock got patched in the gen 4 remakes - there's a guy in the Pokémon center who, if you have only one Pokémon, will hand out a free Tentacool. This can't be pre-cleared-out by sadomasochists; if you go down to one Pokémon again, he'll give you another Tentacool, as many times as is necessary.
@@underrated1524 Yeah I know about that as well. That's why I specifically said Gen 2 because by Gen 4 they realized how easy it was to get unintentionally softlocked on that island. I just find it funny how it took them so long to actually make the one change that makes softlocks impossible, being the HMs being tied to team members.
The Victory Road with Caterpie in Gen 2 would what would be called in the Mario Maker community as an "anti-softlock", a screen where you have to work really hard to die to avoid losing a checkpoint, typically done in a troll level. In this case, it'd be done to avoid needing to reset the game. Come to think of it, would you really WANT to keep your save in this case? Wouldn't it be faster to just start over? What kind of world would you want to keep what little you have, when you could probably start anew and get it all back so much sooner?
there is a softlock in let's go pikachu and evie, which is technically generation 7. I forget which route but it is before you get fly and a trainer can sometimes shove you behind him, trapping you there forever. Also BDSP is technically generation 8, so if there is a softlock in that then generation 8is possible too. idk about Generation 9 tho
You can also exhaust all your Pokéballs in BDSP, have no money and all trainers beaten north of Cerulean City and releasing all your mons other than your starter, which must be Level 14 or lower at this point.
In the Japanese version of Black and white Opelucid gym, you can use surf on a small patch of air, but doing so renders you immobile, and if you save at that time, the save file is basically busted, and you have to delete the save file.
While not nearly as extreme or cruel as the examples in this video (and could have easily been avoided if either of us actually knew the mechanics of the game), back as 8 year olds playing Pokemon Sapphire for the first time, my friend let me play their game for a bit cuz I didn't have a gba. I kinda got obsessed and wound up battling every trainer I could see outside of Norman's gym, and my friend got so mad because they thought that meant they wouldn't be able to level up their Pokemon anymore and now they wouldn't be able to beat Norman. So instead of battling wild Pokemon to level up, they reset their game and started over. Looking back, knowing they could have battled wild Pokemon, I don't feel quite as bad as I did as a little 8 year old terrified I was gonna lose my best friend over this game.
I thought I got stuck in the S.S. Tidal in Emerald, I managed to get myself stuck next to a trashcan in the storage room with trainers blocking every way out, and since I had already battled them they wouldn't move. I don't know if the trainers start moving again if you save and reload the game, but I didn't think about it at the time haha.
I don't know if it's that kind of stuck, but you can get stuck in fire red/leaf green. If you save the game after defeating a camper flint in route 25 and go after him, you can't go anywhere after restarting the game. You won't be able to go through him, through the tree or the rocks. Only a game reset will help.
@@KyzenEX tío, pensaba que le habían hecho lo típico de robarle los vídeos y resubirlos en otro idioma. Pero no no, nada de eso... no sabía que hablaba tan bien inglés este muchacho!
I accidentally soft locked myself in SV. It was early game before getting your koraidon/miraidon. In Mesagoza there's a corner of space behind some buildings and a gate that goes right before a cliff. I fell down there from higher up and was unable to climb the fence, or squeeze in between the buildings to get out. I'm wondering if I saved, would I have respawned there, or load at the front of the town?
@@PokeMilesPlays Yeah, that method of fast travel I think was designed as also a means to escape any potential moments of getting trapped. The rescue service in Animal Crossing New Horizons was made for the same reason, to escape any potential points of getting trapped
Its pronounced Pik-Asprey. His surname is Asprey he just added a Pik in front. i remember him getting all worked up because everybody says it wrong lol.
Gah, your editing work is just gorgeous, you deserve all this love and more And this video is super entertaining and poetic, I love it all so much ^u^ Thank you for giving me a good start to my day!!
The best example is in HGSS you can get stuck somewhere in really specific circumstances but they added an NPC to give you a Tentacool, which I think you can get infinitely if you keep releasing it
great vid! also ik u didnt want to feature glitches too much, but you could glitch out of bounds in sun/moon (might be japan exclusive idk) by recieving a gift (like the qr code magearna), saving where the delivery man spawns in a poke center, soft resetting, walk into the void, and save out there. invisible walls prevent you from walking back in iirc
It literally never occurred to me that hms are not required to complete bw (except cut once) until now. I guess I just never thought about it, always assumed they were required like usual.
Only in BW1 because I'm pretty sure you do need them in 2, at least for Victory Road? Memory's fuzzy about that though. This was definitely a predecessor to them removing HMs entirely
This was such a good watch, i really thought i was watching some big channel recommended to me but instead i had a nice surprise to see that the algorythm just blessed someone that deserved it.
This just reminded me of the softlock from black, not the one in the vid, but the postgame one where you get locked in by trainers. I think I fell victim to that at least 3 times.
i got locked in gen III when I was a kid in its dewford i got abra, havent entered dewford PC I used teleport and went to petalburg or rustboro forget which one and mr britney disappered so I cant return to dewford anymore
I wouldn't want to release any of my Pokemon that I caught because I would develop a bond with them and treat them like family and friends and care for them!
I remember my old friend telling me that he got stuck in Pokémon sun however I'd have to recreate the situation to verify that there was no way out. He never healed at a Pokémon centre and then went to the second island and lose a battle, this sent him all the way back home and apparently he couldn't get back because he didn't have the charizard for fly yet and the boat wasn't there that normally takes you to the second island. I was only young when this happened and I remember not being able to figure out a way back, wether it's truly unescapable or not I do not know. Maybe I'll try it and find out for myself... And no, due to mantine surf in the ultra games you can't do that in them.
For platinum I have 2: - go to the mine, and jump down the ledge on the left on the lower level - simply enter the Distortion World, and go all the way down to fight Cyrus, with an insufficient team. Boom, permalocked.
It doesn't really count since it was fixed, but in the original version of X/Y there was an area in Lumiose City where if you saved and quit, then you would be unable to load your save
About gen 2: you forgot to specify that you shouldn't have unlocked the access to Route 22, that'd make Viridian City accessible from the league reception gate, allowing you to get Poké Balls for a cheaper price. You can also go to Saffron City, get the Poké Doll to the copycat girl and the pass for you to use the train, and thus go to Johto from there. It's less tough than farming for Ultra Balls because of the Poké Balls sold in Viridian City, and once you get at least one you can try as many times as you want to catch a Pokémon at Victory Road or Route 26. You can get the berries, sure, to get money, and you can also get the berries of Routes 1 and 2. The trainers around are levels around 30 though, so they need to be either dodged or defeated to progress, they may prevent you to get to the berries. But to go to Viridian you need to have defeated the mandatory Route 2 trainers so that one isn't an issue. The latter can get you some money though, but there are no weak trainers around, so getting even more is going to be difficult. You can be vicious and defeat only the weak trainers so that only the stronger ones are left, making money even harder to get. Make sure you don't have the Old and Good Rod, just to make the grind even harder. Since wild Pokémon are low leveled, Caterpie may be able to gain some levels and evolve, but reaching levels beyond 10 is going to become pretty long, but you may use strats that revolve around using Sleep/Poison Powder and Confusion for stronger foes.
Gen 3:catch a shiny abra with only teleport,go to dewford and heal there , go to slateport and use teleport. BOOM ,even if you have your pokemon you dont even have the hm that early
Can’t the first B/W Softlock be cleared by picking up gems from dust clouds in Wellspring cave? Then sell those for money, get a ball, and catch a cut user
I somehow got stuck in Sun in the Aether Foundation and don't ask me how. I can't remember it because it happens a long time ago and only know that I couldn't take the boat back or fly with Charizard away. Had to restart the game after days trying to escape this hideout.
I know a way to get trapped in Gen 7. It's so easy I *_f o u n d i t b y m i s t a k e . . ._* (almost cost my UM file) While on Aether Paradise (i did this after Ula'ula but it might work before), fly back to somewhere such as Melemele Island. That's it. Aether doesn't have a fly point yet and the boats on all three available islands don't take you back to the paradise. You're stranded. I'm thankful I hadn't saved yet or done too much since the last save... edit: never mind. someone already commented this Here's another one: Surf into the Elite 4 void in Diamond and Pearl! It's not like Nintendo have their fix service still up.
You can go to that one island that's covered on water then release all surf pokemon or water pokemon so you will be stuck only in gen 2 they fixed it in gen 4 there is an npc who gives you a tentacool or a tentacruel i think
for 2nd gen you can get trapped if you are at cianwood, have no surf, rock smash or fly pokemon so you can't even fight anything and so you can have pokeballs but nothing to use it on
i recall playing pokemon moon for the first time and getting to the second island. after i got to the second island i never went to the pokemon center for some reason and eventually all my pokemon fainted. i respawned at the first island poke center and realized i couldnt go back to the second island because the cutscene already triggered. I had to reset my copy and start all over
I don't think this is actually unescapable, but if you don't go ro the pokemon center on the 2nd island in Sun & Moon and lose there, you'll go to the first island... With no way to get back to the second island. Stuck on island 1, you are unable to progress, and if you save, that's that.
W for linking to the video of the 3D anime intro you showed! Your vid is interesting too, and I love the animations you added, so I subbed :3 Edit: The Black & White footage looks super muddy and bad, just using the pixel art (sprites) would improve it!
@@xSilentZeroXx you are correct. What I mean is that if you have it (as well as transporter) the service is no longer pay to use. It’s free. Yes it still says pay but you don’t pay anymore (they probably should have made an update in the app that replaces the number it used to cost and have it say free).
