So, what this boils down to and what this means in reducing the risk of transmission is you need to have a conversation with your partner about having herpes. They need to know and they need to make their own decision about when the condom comes off. Really this conversation needs to be had with our without herpes but we’re specifically talking about herpes. You and your partner need to talk about what precautions you’re going to take to reduce the transmission and what you both feel comfortable with.

Herpes is really hard to target and on the other hand, not harmful. It's annoying, yes, but that's about it. It usually doesn't cause much harm other than a blister here and there and that's why definitely not a priority for medicine.

When i found out that i have herpes (few years back) i was in alot of pain having my first outbreak. I really thought, like you said, that my life was over and no one would ever love me as i am. And felt alone w it all. And felt gross. I still struggle a little w feeling gross when i have outbreaks. But finding an amazing , understanding, supportive and loving partner that i can talk to really helped. Now im trying to figure out what i can do to get off antivirals and how to keep the outbreaks away in a natual way. From watching your videos I've learned alot. And wish i found your channel earlier because they give me motivation and hope. But it's better sooner than later 😄

I am on my first dose of antivirals but it's all in your gut health and diet I recommend searching up what vitamins can help which is what I did and I found a ton that will help with nit having any herpes at all

Hi. Yes. You can take daily antivirals, it's called suppressive therapy and usually people take it when they have a lot back to back outbreaks or want to lessen the chances of transmission to their partners.

dont ever apply coconut oil over an outbreak, its antimicrobial, NOT ANTIVIRAL, viruses have very difficult and almost impenetrable membranes which differ from bacteria

I used to take Olive Leaf extract when i felt outbreaks coming on, it helped reduce the active time and speed recovery. The other day i planned to live off whole fruits for a week. I just found out I have it and about to jump into the Mississippi River when I found out but the thing is I never have i ever had any outbreaks nowhere and didn't have any symptoms until the doctor called and told me I had it which was strange.....starting to think they gave it to me

You can very well have herpes and never show any symptoms. It's very common actually. That's one of the reasons why people don't know they have it - they never show symptoms, but since they don't get tested, they don't know

My doctors say that taking antivirals are not good on a regular basis as viruses have notorious tendency and they become resistant to anti virals if taken for long so it should be taken if your situation is really tough. Do you take anti virals on a daily basis and is this true ?

No, Alexandra does not take antivirals daily. There are times in one's life when one wants to take it, mainly to protect the partner, but of course, it's still a drug. Some people do not like taking drugs on a daily basis, which is good too. Nothing specifically bad will happen if you don't ever take them. Your outbreaks may just last longer, and statistically you could have more of them. Yes, viruses can develop resistance to antiviral medications over time.

Question so let’s just say you have sex with someone that has herpes can you still feel some symptoms and not catch genital herpes ? and when we had sex she didn’t have any outbreaks and she was taking her medication daily

You can still catch it, yes, although the changes are very low. For the symptoms, it's hard to say what you're experiencing like that.

Yeah it can remain dormant for years in some people before someone has their first outbreak. Maybe that's why you shouldn't be judgmental about it. Anyone can get it regardless of how many partners you've had. You can get oral herpes by sharing a drink with someone.

Agree. I thought my OBGYN tested me for it each year. Nope. It’s not a part of the standard STD panel. only gonorrhea and chlamydia. Big deal. All you need is a round of antibiotics to cure those. I’ve known people who showed me their STD test when I didn’t even ask for it but all it showed was there gonorrhea and chlamydia test. It doesn’t mean anything. You must specifically ask to be tested for both HSV-1 and HSV-2.

So sorry to hear that. I understand it feels that way. However, we can't hold on to that guilt. She made her own choice and the worst thing is the stigma, not the virus itself. You didn't give her something that will greatly impact her health in any way. She may get annoying outbreaks from time to time, but that's about it. It's not HIV or AIDS that has way more impact. I know that's easier said than done, but try to let it go.

@@lifewithherpes yes she understands that. She's not worried about the virus itself. She's just worried about passing it on to someone else because of the massive stigma around it. So I'm worried about her mental health more than anything. Honestly I feel like I never want to have sex again, unless it's with someone who already has it. I thought I would be fine by avoiding sex during breakouts without a condom, but apparently not. So yeah, I don't think I can ever risk that again

Yes, it's very common. Shedding is the time the virus is active and can be transmitted. Viral shedding occurs without symptoms, so we do not know when it's happening.

It is true that a person cannot truly gauge when an outbreak is going to occur? I think a person who is having sex with a person honorable enough to announce that they're infected with Herpes should have the 30-50% level of protection

With most of the viruses, you are contagious a bit before you have symptoms. Most people that track their symptoms can learn what causes an outbreak for them, like stress, certain foods, alcohol, etc.

I just found this channel and have remember something and i got a question i hope you can answer ( sorry about my bad English or spelling ) About 10 years ago , i got a blister on my genital area , went to the doctor and was diagnosticated with herpes , i was given a treatment , a medicine i have forgot the name but i think i saw you mention it on one of your videos, i just remember it starts with letter v . If you got a herpes swab test and tested positive, then you have it. If you tested negative, it could be 1) you don't have it 2) You tested when there was no active lesion, or tested when the actual lesion has already started to dry up, resulting in a negative test.

You would probably not test positive after 2 weeks, if you did get it. It usually take somewhere from 2 - 8 weeks to test positive, but it could also take up to 6 months or even longer.

Very. However, insurance companies are cheap so doctors test you with a cheap test that shows a lot of false positives. If it shows positive then you get retested using the expensive reliable one. Some of the herpes virus will be detected in your test because you likely had chicken pox which is a form of herpes. The indicator is the levels on your blood stream.,

4 years later I still feel gross. Im too ashamed to tell a partner if I find one. It’d be a gold mine if I find a girl that has it and tells me first. Other than that I’m not going to have sex until I die

Im pretty confused on everything. So if I want less chances to get herpes from my partner. Should I also take the medications and use condoms?

Condoms could help, but only to a certain point. If there's still exposed skin of where your partner gets outbreaks, then you will still be able to come into contact with it. And the use of antivirals in a non- infected person is probably not going to work as we hope it would. The antivirals don't kill herpes, they just put it into a dormant state.

" Yes, I think that's exactly what happened to me 10 years ago. The woman I was having sex with may have passed Herpes onto me because my condom missed a little bit of penis skin so the virus went into that area unfortunately.

I’m 23 just got diagnosed with with hsv1 I’m scared and been taking anti virals and I’m really horrified I told my partner I have it and she still chooses to be with but I really don’t want to spread it to my girl I dont want her to feel how I feel is there any way I can keep my outbreaks suppressed and Is there anything she can do to prevent transmission we really don’t want to use condoms but I choose to because I don’t feel comfortable just yet but I do want to have baby’s and she does as well what do I do I really need help and google is really scaring me and is there anything that can soothe my area I don’t see blisters but I can feel the itchyness and tingling I really don’t know what to do like what soaps should I stay away from I use dove sensitive skin is there any diets or cream I can use to try nd prevent transmission as much as possible? can I still smoke weed ?

There are some things you can do to lessen the transmission to him, but there's never a 100% guarantee you will not. Taking antivirals will help tremendously. They are FDA approved and the chances of transmission become around 1% when taking daily. Another thing are condoms, but they only cover a small portion of the area, and since herpes is transmitted with skin to skin contact, they usually do not cover the whole area where one gets outbreaks. It's important to note that and decide whether this is something you want to do. Of course, condoms are great for other fluid based transmissions, or to avoid unwanted pregnancy. A good immune system will be your best option. When our bodies function the way they need, they can keep the herpes virus dormant. You can do that by taking supplements like multivitamin, and additionally also lysine, monolaurin and andrographis. Andrographis can also be used by your partner. There were some studies done that say andrographis will prevent the viral entry of the virus, meaning the virus won’t enter when Andrographis are taken regularly. Chances for the partner to contract infection is so high if you are so sexually active and always doing unprotected over the long run, so please don't persuade people for an unprotected sex, specially if men are infectious can easily transfer to women. don't do it unprotected.

That could be, as too much friction can cause outbreaks for some women. Try using lubricant, if that's the case and just in general, try not to cause 'trauma' to the area, including grooming - shaving, waxing, or removing hair in general. It is there to protect you.

Of course. There are many couple going through life just fine and not transmitting herpes to the other person. It's up to you and your partner to decide what you want to do and what precautions to take. Antivirals are FDA proven and one of the best ways to protect your partner, if taken daily. We can do a lot with our lifestyle choices (diet, exercise, stress, sleep, etc) and control the outbreaks. Communication is important too, so the hsv+ can discuss if they feel something's off, etc. You can then always decide how you want to proceed.

Condoms are only protecting if the area your outbreaks occur are covered by them. Since it's skin to skin contact, that's usually not the case.

More people than not have herpes. The chances are you have come into contact with the virus multiple times through your life. It's not some rare virus and definitely doesn't do much harm. I just don't want you to search for 'somebody perfect' - because we all have something we'd rather avoid having in a perfect world and even people with herpes mostly live perfectly normal lives. Hello Alexandra! I have a question I can't seem to find covered since every article I've read assumes HSV-2. I'm a 25yr F dating a 25yr M. So my boyfriend has HSV-1 (oral). He recently discovered he has this through some blood work he had done. I've already accepted him and we've discussed how I want to practice safety when it comes to the virus. He's very open and willing (as am I), to do what it takes to make us both comfortable with this new information. I've already disclosed with him that I cannot have kids because I have no ovaries. So wearing a condom to prevent pregnancy is not an issue. I've been doing my part to try and better understand this for the both of us (he is too). His virus is dormant and has never had a breach. I'm considering on asking him to take antivirals as a precaution. Currently he is not taking any. I've read that the virus is in the body. So, my question is "Since he has HSV-1, If we have unprotected sex, would the virus still be transferable to give me HSV-2 since it resides in the DNA of semen?" I'm genuinely curious if this is a possibility. This way, we can keep using protected sex or if we'll need the antiviral medication in order to have unprotected sex. I really love him, but I also want to protect myself. I'd hate to contract HSV-2 through this round about way.

Hi, if you would get it, considering he only has HSV1, you cannot get HSV2, but only HSV1. You can get genital HSV1, or oral HSV1 (or HSV1 anywhere on your body, to be exact, since herpes is a skin disease, but it usually transmits to genitals or mouth). It does not live in bodily fluids, but in our nerves. It is transmittable only with skin to skin contact. If he's asymptomatic, that in theory means he's less contagious and sheds less often. However, it can still happen, but we don't know how often and of course everybody is different. Hope that answers your question.

Hsv1 will not outbreak in your genital area. Unless yhere was a rare circumstance where it was transmitted that way. But that extremely rare from what i have read.
