The build videos on Casey's channel talk more about why they went with this chassis. Essentially it boils down to at the time the chassis were pretty much identical and this chassis was accessible. The majority of the differences are in aero, and they are altering the car to match F1 spec. Everything else can be attributed to the hotrod idea

@@fatpad00 I fully understand that, and by any means I would thrash or say bad things about this awesome project. BUT, it needs to be pointed out that it is not a F1 car, no matter the reasons for it (cost, technical issues...) Want to call it a single seater that resembles a F1 car? Fine... But it never was and never will be a "Street legal F1 car"....

@@mafracao ok, ya, the thumbnail is misleading. Its definitely not a "street legal F1 car" is not accurate at all. That makes it sound like a modern F1 car with lights and turn signals. Calling it the "F1 hotrod" I would say is fair because it gets the point and goals of the build across without being needlessly wordy. Especially when you're casting a wide net like on youtube and the average viewer may not understand the difference, even if that isnt a perfect description. I think having this guy talk about it kinda did an injustice to explaining what it really is. I was hoping Casey would also be in this video to explain that side of it

Ever consider an electric reverse? Need an auxiliary battery, maybe a large starter motor, rig it so you can switch the chain drive over to the electric motor, then engage it, simple compact short range reverse capability.

Give it up, you made a formula car that is road legal... then you made a huge mistake by comparing it to the pinnacle of motorsport. This project is seperate to his non profit. The non profit is to teach young people skills to help them get into Motorsport and engineering. He builds cars like this as like his “day job” to make a living and RU-vid content.

Cool move but long way from calling that a F1 car. I suppose back in the day 4 cylinder low displacement cars were the F1 cars so technically anything could be. However at this point I'd call it a formula Hayabusa for the street.

@@chrisdooley6468 the tell tail there is 3000, they’re 3000cc. They used the cosworth engines from formula 1 when turbos took over.

Bmw used to manufacture 4 cylinder turbos for f1. The perfect engine is hard find because f1 engine have very low tolerances and a cold engine would be completely seized. The only engine I can think of that could work would be the Lexus LFA engine but good luck finding one.

Not the first. Look up Gary Cheney in New Hampshire. He made a Raynard road course car street legal and put an LS1 in it. Also, Dallara IndyCar Factory makes tandem two-seater road legal cars.

I can't seem to find an actual F1 chassis turned into a street legal car, only IndyCar chassis, so, this one wouldn't be the first either, because it's not an F1 car in the beginning. But still, this is about the coolest shit ever

While this is certainly a pretty cool build, it’s ridiculous to try and make some kind of comparison to a F1 car. The only similarity is that it’s an open wheel single seater. He says it “looks like an early 90s F1 car.” On what planet? If anything, it’s vaguely similar to a mid 1960s formula car.

In Florida everything is street legal. Look into the reverse Honda uses on the Goldwing. If I'm not mistaken it uses an electric motor to reverse the bike, your car should be light and maybe you can retrofit it.

It is not at all unusual for genuine recent Formula One racing cars to be driven on Public Highways, usually for Public Relations exercises by the actual Formula One Organisation itself to increase Grand Prix attendances, or by advertisers (most commonly Red Bull) seeking publicity. The vehicle shown on this VinWiki episode is not a Formula One car and cannot legally be described as such. It is difficult to understand why spectators or viewers at the forthcoming Formula One Grand Prix in Miami, Florida on 8th May 2022 would wish to see an essentially home-built and outdated version of a 'racing car' when they can see twenty of the actual contemporary cars in action on the track.

Look into rpm gearboxes. Other RU-vid have used them in a street bike powered golf cart. It is probably the only option that can handle your torque.

I have been watching this build since Casey obtained the Chassis/Body. Removable Fenders/Skirts in Black Carbon Fiber would make this Legal/Operational in Damp Situation on Public Roadways! Depending on which State this is going to be Licensed, don't you need a Windshield and Wipers? I know that (here in Washington State) one of the requirements for a D.O.T./State Patrol Inspection required both... I cannot wait for this build to be fully complete and Legal! 🖖

I see road legal IndyCars all the time especially around IMS. Some single and some two up but they’ve got Indiana tags on them.

a 1uz would be really good for this car. Change the rods and add a cam it can handle 12k rpm and with 180 headers it would sound really good and have the power too being that they can make 1000hp with those mods and a turbo. Can still rev to 8k without doing rods and make around 800hp.

i had a friend back in 2000 that had a blue street legal indy car with a chevy 350 and a porsche dog box trans, it was simple and worked. So what i'm saying is i had a friend that had one that was built 5 years before that, so street legal indy car has been done before.
