I would love to see a video on Leca. What works well for you, what doesn't, how plants respond, whether you use Leca for propagating or for long-term growth and is there a difference in the approach, etc.
@creech444
@creech444 3 года назад
Definitely, when Leca got to be a big thing, people were moving everything to Leca but now it seems it's more for certain plants and not others. All my plants in Leca I eventually moved back to soil.
@fashionistavictim
@fashionistavictim 3 года назад
@@creech444 I follow a similar mentality. I use Leca mainly for propagations and have a few plants that just love it in leca so I keep them there. I do love how reusable the leca is so that it what keeps me coming back and trying more plants in it. I would love to have all of my plants be leca/full hydro but I haven't found a way to keep all plants happy there so I have to keep a bag of coco husk on hand.

I own one expensive plant. I bought a rooted cutting of a philodendron pastazanum with 3 leaves a few months ago, and it's beautiful. I got it for what I felt was a reasonable price from a U.S. seller. I didn't buy it with the purpose of making money off it, but, maybe when it's bigger, I may reconsider. I appreciate these videos, as I have casually considering selling some plants here and there in the future, to help people get harder to find plants at reasonable prices. Kaylee, you are an absolute wealth of information, and when people ask how I know so much about plants, I direct them to look you up.

I got a philodendron plowmanii and el choco a little while ago and both of them are really nice and relatively easy. I guess especially the plowmanii wouldn't be bad as an investment plant too (though that's not the main reason I bought it). It's heart-shaped, has rather stable silver marking, looks nice and pillowy and the ruffles on the petiole are really cute. The only "downside" is that's a crawler and can take up more space when it's grown...but that never stopped the the gloriosum from being popular. El choco Is really nice looking too but for me it grows extremely slow, I can see people wanting it though.
@gzhang3859
@gzhang3859 3 года назад
I’m thinking about growing crawlers in those long pots people use for herbs and flowers but I’m not sure if it will be practical especially when it comes to watering. How easy would you say the plowmanii is? I saw a ‘dark form’ for sale and it’s one of the most beautiful philodendron I’ve seen.
@mathilda6763
@mathilda6763 3 года назад
@@gzhang3859 i grow my plowmanii in a regular pot because it still doesn't have an extensive root ball, but my gloriosum is in a rectangular self-watering container it's and nothing more complicated than a regular round pot. "Windowbox" -type containers are probably really good for crawlers, because otherwise you probably need quite wide pots pretty fast and you know...we need that space to put plants there. 😅 To me plowmanii seems to be quite easy. Normal household humidity seems to be fine, medium light, water when the soil is dry ...maybe a mild fertiliser every second time you water. I'd guess that it would also do well in leca.

All the time. I have the most success in moss. Put in a cup, and cover the top of the cup with Saran Wrap/plastic wrap, so just the moss and cup is covered and the leaf and stem are sticking out. Keeps the moss moist and roots moist, but doesn’t rot the stem or leaf.
