OMG, I am so excited that you presented three of the Godfathers of functional medicine, who are teaching us the basics of preventing and reversing disease. I can’t wait to share these interviews with receptive people. Chef AJ you are truly a Goddess of health by food, leading by good example✨I am a five year vegan , early childhood vegetarian, still learning so much about food as medicine. I am with the group of humans who want to help heal our planet through improving our human condition. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your influence. I feel renewed faith in this movement and honored to be a part of it. I love you! You guys are the superheroes, whom we will cherish for generation to come🌠🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Great presentation. Thank you. I sure wish all of this could be "downloaded" into the brains of every doctor, therapist, PA, nurse, and every other health professional, not to mention chefs, cooks, and anyone else in the food industry, let alone all those folks in the pharmaceutical industry. To be blunt, anything that has the word "industry" after it makes me extremely leary.

I have been following Dr. Esslestyn's diet for 1-1/2 years after learning I had significant blockage in three of my coronary arteries. I'm getting a follow-up angiogram later this month and I'm really hoping to see some dramatic results. I just wish I didn't wait 60 years to go plant-based and get rid of sugar, oil and nuts in my diet.

If you look at the actual study on post war Norway, heart attacks had been on the rise there since the beginning of the century, suggesting that it wasn't the food that they had always eaten, but rather something new. The study and articles about the study say that heart attacks dropped after the war because of a combination of reduced smoking and reduced trans fats. The trans fats, like those found in vegetable oils, margarines and packaged baked goods, had started to rise in use at the beginning of the century, but were hard to come by after the war. Norway today has one of the strictest bands on trans fats.

If people aren’t convinced about the absolute health benefits of being plant based by this presentation, they never will be. But, there will always be people like smokers, who even after seeing the truth, will still ignore the evidence and continue to destroy their health. To those people I say, go for it.

Well, there are differing opinions. For example, it has never been shown that meat causes inflamation which is the cause of blood clots. I find many who say seed oils are the culprit along with insulin resistance which comes from not being able to metabolize carbs and sugar. Though some believe that you can be safe from a plant-based diet of starches and carbs, I am unconvinced.

You are what you eat. Your diet impacts your health. Lower stress, reduce obesity and more exercise are key to a healthy life. Obesity in children and adults is rising across the world. Fast food and sugary drinks are contributing to the problem of poor health and obesity. Eat a healthy plant based diet and exercise regularly. Reduce or ELIMINATE cows milk, eggs, cheese and meat. Eat more salad greens, beans, fruit and vegetables. Eliminate fast food, snacks like cookies, cakes, chips, and sugary drinks and juices. Every adult and child should own a bicycle and ride it regularly. Regular exercise will help you sleep better. Yoga is a great stress reducer. Obesity is all too common today. Get off the couch. Get off the phone, ipad or video game. A variety of stretching and other exercises help with increased mobility. Ride to work, ride to school, ride for fun. Every city should be a bicycle city. Speak up for bicycles in your community

Not sure if you can answer me but I was told by my surgeon that I'm an anomaly. 2 weeks ago I had a major heartattack and had two stints put in while running with my sons dog. For the last 4 years, I dont eat oils, meats chicken fish , dairy or eggs. I only eat whole clean foods, no oils. I have always had normal blood tests, I dont have high blood pressure glucose etc. Im not overweight and very active. I have gone from only taking vitamins to pills I cant pronounce, one of which is antorvasatatin. ( which I'm totally against as a statin) my goal is to be off everything in a year except baby aspirin. Do you think that's possible? Do you think I had the heart attack from eating a western diet up until the last 4 years? I have been rather emotional about this, many of my friends who know me are also perplexed. 🙄

Hi AJ, you have an amazing show and do such a great job with guests and questions for them. I love the Esselstyn family and all your plant based guests. I have a question for one of the doctors on the show. I have been plant-based for ~2yr. I have a family history of high blood pressure and strokes, but have never had these things myself. I did have high, good cholesterol before going plant-based and had borderline high blood pressure. Now my cholesterol is very low but still in normal range and my mean platlet volume is very high, but also still technically in normal range (barely). My doctor says that the low cholesterol can be a risk factor for strokes. Should I be worried?

If one has a saphenous graft or worse, a stented saphenous graft, they become dependent on an endothelium formed on the interior of a vein or a stent in a vein. It may not be possible to have a healthy endothelium inside a saphenous graft or stent on food alone. The time to do WFPB is prior to grafts or stenting. Sadly still, very few are given a choice by their doctors.

Because diet is only part of the equation. I don’t think there is a one size fits all; but diet, exercise and stress control help - but there are always hereditary factors. There are no absolute cures yet as far as I am aware. The science is not definitive.

You are 100% completely wrong. Peoples of the earth have lived on whole plant foods for thousands of years: beans, legumes, potatoes, corn & squashes, tubers, grains, seeds, nuts, green & yellow veggies, & fruits. If living on whole food plant diets is not possible, then please explain to me how the other great mammals of the earth (of which we are among them) survive? I am referring to the mammals of: elephants, giraffe's, hippopotamus', silverback gorillas, chimpanzees, orangutans, moose, elk, deer, antelope, marmots, squirrels, camels, cows, buffalo, pigs, goats, sheep, just to name a few. How do they manage to live and thrive on "veggies"? If you want to guzzle saturated fat oil, have at it. It's your body. But mct oil is not something that Mother Nature manufactures in her great wisdom. Eat a whole plant food just as Mother Nature grew it. Just like all the other great mammals of the earth do.

These animals have a big colon where bacteria break down the plant material to 70% fat and protein..... Humans dont have that..... Eskimo's eat 400 grams meat and 300 grams fat and appear healthy..... The Massai eat only blood and milk from their cattle..... Maybe it is the vinegar and absence of sugar and low calorie content of the food?
