Thanks for a short intro into "dagad". Funny, I just started "messin around" with this tuning. It is beautiful to the ear. Only formal instruction in guitar I've ever had was 4 months of serious classical guitar training. The instructor "pushed" for three things in those 4 months: Playing position, using all 10 fingers and enjoying the music and the playing. I'm now trying to educate myself in the language of music, especially guitar. I'm always looking for good instruction. I've been watching a lot of Tom Bukovac but he his advanced on the learning scale for me. But anyway, thanks for the short instruction.....coming to you just south of Chicago.
Thank you, Ben! Recently, I've been on a mission to find anything/everything about DADGAD. I'm in the process of purchasing an acoustic guitar that I will dedicate to this tuning. Your lesson here was exceedingly welcome and I just subscribed. Blues is my favorite genre, and I absolutely loved this information! Nice playing, and fun! Thanks Again!
This is nice and a welcome break from the usual 'celtic' stuff in DADGAD. The late Al Petteway has a 2 DVD set on blues in DADGAD (as well as a 2 DVD set of Appalachian songs in DADGAD). You may be interested that White Summer and Over the Hills by Led Zep are essentially a rip of Davey Graham's version of 'She Moved Through the Fair'. Likewise, Black mountain side is a direct lift of Bert Jansch's version of Blackwaterside. This one, however, has an interesting history. Bert's original is in drop D, but J page learnt it from Al Stewart, who mistaken thought it was in DADGAD. The signature licks work in either, but J Page's version is far less varied than Bert's subtle take, being essentially the signature licks with minor variants throughout, where Bert follows the vocal line.
I am very visually oriented in playing guitar tablature makes it easier for me to remember so if you want or would put some tab together for this it would help people like me thanks
Fink is using it for his covers. Look for all cried out. An Allison Moyet tune covered by Fink. Andy mcKee is using it a lot. But he is not really rock
