You are doing the right thing..if you have a GTI or a Golf R ....use a euro spec 5w40..you can thank me later

I thought you were nuts until recently. There ARE engines out there that with modern oil can go 15k or even more but what I've learned is with like any other component improvements those that lean on the improvements will push the boundaries in a way that progresses one aspect but not another. Basically, there are engines out there that can take full advantage of the longevity of modern oils, especially the those designed decades ago, but for modern engines designed to take advantage of the new oil they just might still need the standard interval. BUT because so many customers have become aware and even accustomed to longer intervals they have a hard time selling the traditional interval. So they lower the warranty interval. 😆 Go figure.

..a 1998 Camry using modern oil and filter might go 20k and still hit 700k, being honest...

.. a 2018 vehicle might have a similar displacement, much more power, better fuel efficiency, REQUIRE the new oil but also require traditional change intervals... That is what I meant.

Then I should probably thicken my oil and it’ll go away and I’ll ignore it until it blows up
