My nephew plays drums and he is still grinding it out. But no matter how many people tell him to get a "real" job he keeps grinding. He plays for Churches, local bars and is a drummer for a few bands at once. Thanks for this video.
Tripp, great advice dude. I have a buddy who is a professional musician and lives in Indy, not the big music towns. But he's doing it. Thanks for this info!
Move to Nashville? Half the people who live there are musicians. WAY more musicians than steady gigs. Just moving there as a nobody, then getting in with a legit, top act is about the same odds as winning a lottery, or a kid playing basketball out on street courts making it in the NBA. Besides, what if you can't stand country/country pop music?
Then move to NY or LA or London. It’s not for everyone, but your odds are better in those high volume music scenes. While I agree it is a tight knit community, it’s NOT impossible.
Very nice to hear. Can you be more specific about how you started, i don't wanna be too nosy though 😊 maybe also tell us how you provide for your family, like do you have kids, health insurance, what's it like being away from family, is it hard for her (saw your wedding ring) Anyway, enjoyed the video 🎶
I honestly started playing drums in church and just developed passion for music and decided I was going to pursue it no matter what. I provide for my family through the band and also my publishing deal, and health insurance is covered thru the band!! Yes I have two kids, and yes it can be tough at times being on the road, however when I’m home, I’m home. So I may have a Sunday-Thursday where I spend the entire time with my wife and kids. And then there are months we will take off and not tour at all so I get to be home more then I’m on the road! I think since we’ve had kids, it has been difficult on my wife, but we also have help from grandparents most of the time so that helps! Hope this helped! Get out there and do it! Music as a job is a cool life!
@@TRIPPXHOWELL Wow, that's wonderful that you get to be home that much!! I thought it would require you to be gone alot more and thank God for grandparents, the absolute best baby helpers!! If you didn't have a publishing deal do you think it would be the same or could you make it without it?
