Great sales person. I get it. I’m also on this. I buy from grocery store I watch my calories and carbs and take multi vitamin. I’m having no problems losing. Honestly some of the grocery store fuelings are just more convenient.

Haaaa! Not sales person! I counted macros for 3 months…weighed everything out…didn’t cheat and call my lose 5 pounds a month. Then when I started our program, it came right off.. I have a lot of clients who financially have had to substitute which is of course totally fine. It is what it is. But I have yet to see somebody start substituting out of the grocery store and still pull 10 pound months. It’s very rare that that ever actually happens. But, awesome that you are doing well out of the grocery store and losing! Keep up the great work!

The only issues I have on this plan is the quality needs to be better. They need more organic, less soy, less gluten etc. This company needs to do better. I am a healthy person. I don't want all that in my food.

I think people want to substitute an Atkins bar for a fueling bar which I think for 1/2 the price would work in a pinch.

Those are really high in fat. I think I'd prefer to see them eat a low carb bar that uses sugar alcohol to sweeten. Just my opinion.

Hey Gwen, I'm 3 weeks into my program and down about 27lbs. I've been super strict but I've already been planning for transition when I drop another 20lbs...I've crossing that road of continuing to buy the products all the time whereas I know I can match the macros and quality from real food, plus adding a portion of a multi vitamin and a prebiotic/digestive enzyme. Just curious of you're perspective to that, but this is a great video, you're honesty is awesome 👌

Awwww thank you!!! Yeah it’s funny the things that you learn when you’re just trying to figure it out or trying to bypass the system. LOL. When I first started the program I swore I was only going to eat this food until I hit my goal weight but then once I started really trying to compare apples to apples, it’s just not possible.

Comparing a bar to chocolate milk…slim fast is the alternative: 7 carbs(5F, 1S). 20f protein, 180 calories. Lots of vitamins.

How do you know how many of the carbs come from sugar? I am looking at the chocolate mint cookie crisp bar. Is says it has 12 g of carbs 4 g of sugar and includes 4 grams of added sugar. Does this mean out of the 12 g of carbs 8 g come from sugar?

Oh that’s such a fantastic idea. I will definitely do that. I actually tell all my clients that every single day if right when they wake up, they flip on never binge again or once they’re done, they travel between the never been jogging podcasts and the OPTAVIA podcast, and do that for 90 days along with leaving that life book on your nightstand and touching it every night for five minutes a day, you will be through the life book in a year which is how long it is supposed to take

I am subbing out yogurt once a day. I have seen so many people have trouble transitioning, I want to get used to eating better, generally, while I am reducing my weight.

Personally I wouldn't start substituting until you reach your goal. Most people struggle with transition because they don't do it per the system and then they just start eating carbs that aren't balanced against equal protein.

Wouldn't it make more sense to compare it to a nutritional item same as the one you replace? Bar for bar; shake for shake. Protein bars have 20g of protein, 16g of carbs at 200 cal. Could switching a fueling for an additional lean & green work?

Sure! Just trying to educate people on the numbers. But…throwing a few of those 200 calorie bars a day puts you above the daily caloric intake. Then if you cut them in 1/2…you’d be short in carbs/protein a day. So yes, trying to match as close as you can Is key!

@@peggyboston4611 what? 😂😂😂 Well again you could technically eat whatever you want if you know how to build the numbers correctly. For instance if you took that real sugar brownie mix and added a protein powder with it and then made them that way you could definitely do that but they probably wouldn’t taste very good. Ha ha

You are correct. But if you actually look at that food, it has quite a few artificial ingredients and does not have all the vitamins, minerals, and probiotics our food have. But you’re correct, food is not what the program is about, it’s about the support of a coach, the support of the community, and all the resources to help the mental component. There are a lot of diet out there that work but the reality is they don’t actually work long term because food is just food....The system is what creates a long-term health.

this is a great explanation, but not helpful when optavia is behind on their shipping... 15 days since I ordered my next box and still not shipping and I am out of food in 2 days. love the program but not if they can't keep up with their shipping to make sure people get their food.

Karen! I know it is frustrating isn’t it? It is nuts how so many companies are running out of ingredients. I don’t know if you saw that Chick-fil-A just announced that they are running out of all of their sauces and they don’t know when they will be getting enough ingredients to keep them in stock. I guess Starbucks just announced that they are out of the sugar-free syrup‘s in multiple flavors. It’s everywhere. So what I would suggest to do if you have two days worth of food left is stretch it out. I would do like two fueling‘s and three of the substitutions until your food arrives because when you do something like that short term, your weight loss won’t skip a beat. You’ll keep losing weight and inches. If you tried to do that for 30 days, it will definitely slow down your weight loss but not for 5 to 7 days. What I would suggest is when your box arrives, I would place your next order a week later to give it a three week lag time just to be safe. How are you doing on program so far?

The fuelings and the specialized IV drips that are administered by medical professionals are NOT the same. Very inaccurate and misleading to your viewers.

Great comment. You are absolutely right that nothing can compete with an IV full of vitamins and minerals. Those are the bomb but also they are $80-$100 each. Obviously our fueling‘s are not $80-$100 each but that’s why I used the word LIKE. It can be like it because it’s built-in to the food so instead of taking one multivitamin a day Where are you take the vitamin, it absorbs what you need and you urinate out the rest, you’re getting small doses of vitamins and minerals every three hours which really increases the energy and helps with absorption.

Not true. I started optavia and cancelled after I bought my first fuelings. It’s a simple calorie restrictive diet and you can buy bars and protein powders at the store for way cheaper too.

I know! Bummer! I actually have quite a few clients that will take the powdered fueling‘s and turn them into muffins from the recipe on Sandy’s kitchen adventures website, and then they have all these grab and goes in place of bars

@@Gwen_Peterson_ I am asking because I am interested in Optavia, but I don't think it is healthy for anyone to eat that much processed food vs real food. I wanted to swap out one or two of the fuelings with real food. Also, I started looking into the ingredients (I know ALOT about nutrition, and was really disappointed in how unhealthy and inflammatory the ingredients were... soy protein isolates, sugars... just to name a few.

First, the suggestions you listed above like vegetables with hummus or apples with nut butter, that’s a lot of sugar compared to not a lot of protein and that will spike your blood sugar and store as that an inflammation because your body releases insulin and cortisol when you eat a lot more carbs than protein. A few the other suggestions could work if the carbs paired with it are equal to or less than the grams of protein. Second, our food is a lot less processed than a lot of food that’s out there. So for instance, I have a lot of clients drinking alcohol, eating out a lot, drinking Starbucks, eating cookies and Oreos, so I always feel confident that at least our food is correctly balanced, and is going to be a lot healthier than what they’re currently eating. Third, it’s pretty rare to find proteins sources that are packaged that don’t have soy isolate, certain carbs, etc. So unless you’re going to eat organic, very specific P protein which most people aren’t going to do the research to find, most stuff on the market has that. Last, as for sugar, the amount of sugar is not very high compared to most things people eat. It’s pretty comparable to most meal replacements that have protein in them. so I guess what I would say is, if you wanted to use our food while macro counting you could definitely do that but I tried that for three months prior to really diving into the five and one and it was very hard to get the scale to budge much and it was a lot of work.

How much are they paying you? Can you find this stuff at maybe GNC? Or any health food store. Stuff that might be regulated by the FDA? Like all natural food with the same “macros” and “micros”

How much is who paying me? Many of the products at GNC are full of artificial colors, flavors, sweeteners or preservatives. You’ll find cleaner food at Whole Foods and our food is clean enough to meet the Whole Foods standards. The Optavia food has none of that and it’s regulated by the FDA. At this point, I have not found anything on the market that does have similar macros and micro nutrients. There are a few brands that have similar macros but are missing a lot of the micronutrients

A scrambled egg is only seven grams of protein not 12 to 15 like the fueling‘s. Plus there’s a lot more fat in an egg then there is an R fuelings and an egg does not have all the vitamins and minerals are fueling‘s do. So trying to swap some thing like that out doesn’t really compute correctly

I guess you could but that would technically be a 6 and 0 correct? So 6 out of the grocery store and 0 fuelings? You can definitely do that but your scale will move a lot slower than if you're using the fuelings.

No. Those are straight carbohydrates with very few grams of protein. It would throw you right out of fat burn or balance. For maintenance those are a really healthy, clean bar but those are not the right numbers for our program at all in the weight loss phase.

What is your opinion on quest chips and yogurt? Instead of 5 yogurts.. I did 4 months on optavia and am a coach as well.. but the rest (half) of my weight loss journey was completed with grocery store items. I agree with some of what you said.

you could definitely do those chips. I find for most people if they eat half the bag of chips which is equivalent to half of a lean serving, they end up feeling more hungry than if they did a yogurt but as long as the nutrition works, it works

Same problem. They have 60 more calories than the Optavia fuelings and barely any macro nutrients (vitamins) so they’re not comparable.

I accidentally ordered a maintenance bar which is 180 calories. I’m all out of fuelings and those are the closest thing to staying on program. I did ask about this on our group page and was advised that the maintenance bars are not the same as the 5&1 fuelings... but I know I need to eat something... What is your advise in this regard?
